@@Scyllax Ok, maybe not one of the best songs ever written. BUT I used to write songs for my rock bands, etc. and if I had written this one my life would be fulfilled. Of course Bobby Hatfield delivered it better than any human on the planet, yet he had a beautiful melody and heart-felt lyrics to work with. Go ahead and try it yourself. Not that easy, eh?

To pull off this kind of vocal, flawlessly in a live situation is genuinely "other worldly". I will be forever grateful that the moment was captured for posterity. It just never gets old. Comparing it with anything modern is pointless.

@casaMariaPT
@casaMariaPT 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevegirardmedia2255 I agree, I also don't know what the backing track had to do with Bobby's vocal performance...nobody contributed to Bobby's performance except Bobby! A song like this in a setting like this, live audience/televised AND not least his parents in the audience would normally have a bearing on the vocal. Watch the opening number of almost anybody's live concert, for the first portion of the song the artiste is usually a little breathless, visibly dry mouthed, (as Bobby was here if you look carefully) You can usually see and hear them settle into it around halfway through the opener. But Bobby has only the one shot, and he knows it. And he still doesn't do what most artistes would do, he doesn't start to rush it, he doesn't start to build too early. These songs are designed when written to build throughout the song finishing with a big crescendo. If you rush it and start to build too early there is nothing left for the big finish. To do all of that and in these circumstances to the level was nothing short of a masterpiece, and we get to share it...forever! I bet his mum cried...I certainly did!

Absolutely dwayne, after all the years past, this is the song, that will live on forever. Bobby was blessed w/ a contratenor voice,with an amazing range of octave (s). Yes dwayne, after all this years, bobby is still melting ❤'s. There is no artist in this day, that could reach such an octave range, as he did. He was such a blessed individual, even in his later years, the voice was there, but perhaps not the range he had when he did this performance live on the Andy Williams show in 1965. I'm sure that Andy wanted all to go well, he was a wonderful singer as well. The aucoustics were outstanding in the NBC studio, with the best orchestra that you could imagine. No autotune, just the young man, mic, and his glorious voice.

No one then or now could ever reach those ranges of octaves. I'm perhaps have mention that comment (s) in earlier posts, I can, because im old as dirt. Anyone that had the good fortune, to see either one of the righteous brothers, whether together or each one doing a solo act, it must have been a great experience. Yea man. Also back in that era, recordings were much the same. Ive seen footage of The Beach Boys recording back in the day. One room, all band members, instruments and backing singers all arranged around a single microphone. All different distances from the mic to achieve desired levels. They did it in a single take, and if even one of these elements wasn't perfect they had to do all over again. They didn't have the benefit of multitrack etc. They were amazing live back then because they pretty much had to bring the same a-game to recording as they did live.

It was written in 1955 as the theme song for a low budget prison film, “Unchained.” There were three different artists who put it out as a single In the 50’s...Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton. But once this version by Bobby Hatfield was released in July 1965, as the “B” side to a song the DJ’s didn’t like and wouldn’t play, it became THE standard interpretation. Bobby first recorded a couple takes as it was written, but he came back for another and changed the final verse to a much higher level.....something he could obviously do with his incredible voice.

Dapper? Back then we all took our public appearances very seriously. Even if we were not a celebrity. This is the most iconic (my opinion) of all the Righteous Brothers songs. Back in the day, they were my favorite group. I still get emotional every time I watch this video. I saw the original live on TV and as a budding musician, it floored me. What everyone forgets, is that back then, you had to sing in key, there was no autotune! Not like today that you can make a star out of anyone that fits the picture of what you want.

@Judas Iscariot You don't know a whole lot about art. The foremost problem with "RAP" and "Hip-Hop" is the over-rhyming -- which is strictly amatuer. And the strutting is about calling attention to oneself, not to the work, the "art". Rhymes that call attention to themselves erase the rest of the line. A MASTER on how to rhyme is Bob Dylan. But you won't listen to him, because you can't "tolerate" his voice.
