Actually, this song was in fact recorded in a studio, with producer Phil Spector's usual Wrecking Crew augmented with a bunch of other people. The session included four acoustic guitars, three pianos, three basses, three saxophones, a six-person string section and drums, all crammed into a relatively small room. But you're right in a sense, because the instruments were recorded live in the studio, which was part of his famous wall of sound approach. And you're also right that it included no electronic enhancements, just enormous talent. Even the reverb was done organically, in a reflective chamber that had a speaker on one wall and a microphone on the opposite wall. The recording was played through the speaker, bounced around the chamber, and that reverberant sound was picked up by the microphone. This song was Phil Spector's masterpiece, in a career filled with astounding achievements. He retired after recording this, at the age of 24.

Nah lil bro, perfect analogy!! The were in a group called “The Paramours” before this and decided they meshed well, and formed “The Righteous Brothers” after a young black Marine stood up after one of their earliest performances and shouted “that was RIGHTEOUS... brothers!” Bill is still living, Bobby was lost to us in 2003, however I have talked to one of his sons and his daughter and they REALLY enjoy seeing reactors like yourself enjoying their Dad’s music! As do I!

This was the most played song of the 20th Century. Oh, and each of the duo did solo songs depending on what vocal sound they were after. Btw, one of the background singers is Cher.
@marthahanley66503 жыл бұрын
The duet is the "Righteous Brothers" however Unchained Melody was just sung by Bobby Hatfield [tenor]. With the 4 octave range. Bill Medley is the baritone. This song was produced by famous Phil Spector and his *unique* and *creative* "Wall of Sound" . Spector called his crew of producers "The Wrecking Crew" It is also the *most* played song of the 20th century. I believe Spector produced nearly all of the songs for their album.

Actually, your peanut butter and jelly analogy was perfect! They weren't really brothers, just singing partners. Bill Medley (deeper voice) and Bobby Hatfield. They were performing in a nightclub in California that was near a military base. Several black guys from the base heard them sing and one of them yelled at them "You are righteous, brothers", and the name stuck! Their style of music became known as "Blue-Eyed Soul", and this particular song became the most played song on TV and radio during the 20th Century. I got to see them live several times when I lived in Las Vegas in the late 1990s, and they STILL were fantastic performers 30 years after these songs were hits. RIP, Bobby.

They weren't related. They received their name when playing at a military base and some African-American Marines heard them and shouted out "man, you sound righteous, brother!" Often, the word "brother" is used, frequently by African Americans, not strictly in regards to a family member but to friends/comrades who share an ideal. Medley and Hatfield liked it so they took on the name Righteous Brothers. If you liked this song, you would also like Soul and Inspiration which was written as a follow-up to the success of this song. It also features both "brothers" and peaked for three straight weeks at #1 in the US. Here is the link to react to: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9anpLaCsMzRXXk.html

The music from my generation HAS stood the test of time. Will today's music stand the test of time?....no way, since today's music is garbage.
