Hello everyone! Here is a traditional african Madagascan hairstyle tutorial inspired by Rihanna's 2020 May Vogue cover. I had no idea how to do this or how it was going to turn out but I think it turned ok. This hairstyle is known as the Tanavoho and worn by the Malagasy Tribe.

This hairstyle is so so cute! I feel tempted to try it even though I did my hair recently. I usually do boring hairstyles lol so am gonna push myself out of my comfort zone with this one.

For people who say anything. Reniss did not invent this haircut. Reniss and Rihanna were inspired by Malagasy women. Search for "Betsimisaraka hairstyle" and you will find old photos of Malagasy women with very beautiful hairstyles.

It looks beautiful. 😍 I've seen someone on youtube do this style but they used attachment for the ends but I like that you can use your own hair. I can't wait until my hair gets as long as yours so I can do more styles.

I've tried this hairstyle myself. The hair forms better balls when you don't comb it out as you've done. I let my hair form it's natural curl pattern (I never remember the various hair texture numbers - my hair has mostly teeny tiny spiral curls), which means it isn't long but it is soft and puffy. The stretching happens via my hands, especially when I am doing the foundational braids. I haven't found it necessary to put a first elastic to anchor the braid and instead only put one on to form the ball. I LOVE this style. It's striking and beautifully showcases natural hair's texture and plus points like softness and squishiness. Plus, it was an amazingly fast style to achieve. I cannot underscore that enough. I also found that I could style the puffs differently by using hair pins to arrange them around my face or piled up on one another as I liked. I liked the gold elastics you use. I used black to blend in with my hair.

My twists are usually part straight in the middle with my fingers and then part the rest using my fingers too(there's no order really, their not even all the same size). Neat parts stress me out lol and parting with fingers give the illusion of thickness on the scalp as opposed to clean neat parts. Hope that helps 😊
