I do a quilted top with tinsilbrite inside, and denim from old jeans as the backing and binding. Binding doesn’t wear out and fray, and they don’t stick to the table if I put hot dishes on them. The best potholders I’ve ever had.

Old hand or bath towels are also very useful for a batting replacement! (When you don’t need heat resistance of course) Like table runners, placemats, etc.

I always use a layer of insulate and a layer of light batting . My pot holders hold up for many washes and many years.

I have some old towels that were my mom's. I wanted to repurpose them so I used them as a backing on pot holders. It is nice to see someone else doing the same thing.

I loved this idea because it is exactly what I am looking at doing as a gift for my aunt who does my hair for free. She wants 9” potholders though because she has larger hands. It looks like I could probably do these standard 8” ones and add a 1/2” border on all sides. Thank you for the great video and inspiration!

A layer cake would also work.

Love this! My mom used towels to make quilted pot holders - I still have them, but we can no longer use them…. They are worn and my grandson burned his hand. I plan to make some with the quilted cotton, insulbrite and denim backings. I thought about even using my mom’s potholders and insulation in the sandwich.

This project is just in time for me. My potholders have gotten totally worn out. Using a towel as backing is a great idea. I've had plain terry cloth potholders that do grip pots well but by themselves are too thin. I'll pull them out from the closet and turn them into backing for new potholders.

Most walking feet come with "J shaped arms" that slide in the back of the foot. You adjust the arm for your desired stitch line width. Then run the "J" along each previous stitch line. Continue this procedure until you reach the other side. Saves you from marking all your lines or moving tape each time you sew an additional line of quilting.💜

@annabanana309911 ай бұрын

according to the Warm Company who makes Insul-Bright, it is not recommended for the microwave. Maybe you’ve found another product that is.

My stove is next to my fridge and I don't have much drawer space. So I hang mine from magnetic hooks on the side of my fridge. Handy in a hurry and I don't have to dig in a drawer nor step away from my cooking area. Love your designs.🎉

I love the idea of the cotton terry backing, but these are not really safe as potholders for gifts without insulbrite or some other heat resistant batting inside. If you make it for yourself, then you know to be more careful, otherwise these are adorable giant coasters/mug rugs.

My friend burned her hand very badly with this holder and wound up in the emergency room. She dropped a scalding hit iron skillet and burned her floor. Terry i🎉s a great idea for reverse side but how about tensile brite in lieu of batting?
