I picked up Royalty a few weeks back based off that video, been really enjoying it. And I'm a base game player for years, was always holding out for a real discount.

Best discount you'll ever get on rimworld content is 20%. I held out thinking it'd go on some big sale for the longest time too.

Honestly I can’t wait until someone makes a framework for adding new gene categories beyond Germline and Xeno genes. Imagine having types of genes that only affect children or adults, males or females, or allows you to swap between sets of active genes like in VE:lycanthrops. One idea I had is a gene archive category, where genes held here have no effect on the pawn, but can be accessed by certain abilities, like an arcowomb, that allows pregnant pawns to chose the genes of their children.

Technically VE:Androids works in a similar mindset, with the system of overclocking and GPU being essentially a swerve atop the original Biotech design. You also have VRE:Waster which adds Mutations as an entirely new genetype, which is gained with later generations at the cost of wasters gaining Gene Instability. BE:Mythics also has the Aurumn genes which is basically 'our Sanguophages need tribute, not blood'

@@gratuitouslurking8610 I love VRE:Androids It's so useful being able to customise exactly what you need. VRE:Waster seems interesting but I've yet to fully look into it.

The new VRE:Insector has a new system where the pawns with a certain gene can mutate themselves at will by entering into a pod and changing around their traits, giving them new strengths and weaknesses.

Golden rundown for a golden dlc 😎👍✨ Almost all of my most fun colonies have had some sort of genetic and/or mechanitor component.

This is why Biotech Trailer, The DLC itself and the 3 areas it added makes it my first and favourite DLC. The main reason I chased down the other two was actually because of the VE mod that gave the Gaurenlenkon and Anima girls xenotypes. Phytokins tho always sleeping are pretty fun to have around, but yeah it added everything I love about Rimworld and futuristic stuff in general and a very relatable start. Solo robot God. But commanding robots adding kids to stories having control over colonist customization of genetics or seeing fire breathing tribal take me out early game is super sick. I will say though that I'm probably the only Rimworld player that likes kids, Rimworld took a page out of Sims 4 child management and instead splitting the features into 10 DLCs you get it in one, but basically, ignoring a child is ALWAYS a bad idea fr, both in Rimworld and Sims, because players who focus on kids like myself end up with unfairly God level adults. I had a run with 4 kids, I stole 3 from some beggars and my colonist had one Danielle because the colonys best shooter by age 13 Thomas a Highmate was running level 20 Warden and Trading by 9 lmao. I dunno if this is viable but couldn't using age reversal give them more time to become demons...

I like the way DLCs break the lore in small and important bits. In the Lore of Rimworld, faster than light space travel doesn't exist, which means there is no greater human empire. If a planet has a war or other doomsday, it can be a 100 years until the next planet even finds out, let alone send help. Mechanoids are different to Robots because they are endlessly self-powerd. They do not need to rest or recharge. And don't even get me started on dark archotechs in the void, when archotechs are either good or evil and simple care little for humans.

Tox gas IEDs are an awesome tool I place them along lines off egress I see raders make over time and just outside/just inside my killzone so by time the enemy even gets to me they are at worst slightly sick and at best on death's door.

One thing to mention about leap is as the pawn ceases to exist temporarily enemies aiming say, a multirocket or doomsday will drop aim forcefully resetting them to the beginning with their hugely long aim time. It along with jump packs are incredibly skill expressive, and absolutetly busted as they allow you to control who hold agro and potentially prevent enemies from firing slower weapons entirely. Great for luring shamblers around too as you lead them out of the way, leap, oh look no pawn to follow and they just sit where you want them forgetting they were ever chasing anyone at all.

One thing about drug dependancies that you might've missed(or maybe I wasn't paying attention, let me know!): for some drugs like psychite, it doesn't stop a pawn's tolerance to it. So your crackheads can still have tolerance build up to MASSIVE. The tolerance gene prevents this however.

I could probably go on for ages about cool Mechanator mods (and lament the loss of Reinforced Mechanoids 2 as we move up to 1.5) but I feel like if you want a cool reason to play Mechanators more, consider Diverse Mechanoid War Procedure. It's made by the same guy who did Biotech Craftable Termites, and while they didn't wind up doing the Craftable Apocriton like was discussed once, War Procedure is a very solid addition which adds variants of most the vanilla and biomech mechs. Highlights include the Knight, a Scyther which is armed with both an energy and physical shield to make it a better tank at the cost of one of it's scythe arms, militor variants with pistols and snipers, termite variants who specialize in either toxic or emp countermeasures, and even 'command' mechanoids which buff allies in their close proximity! EDIT: Nevermind, someone already covered the Apocriton being craftable, I'm a dummy.

One thing about children inheriting the genes. It is... unfortunately a bit botched (pun intended) at the moment if you are running a custom xenotype. Allow me to explain: "Genes shared by both parents will always be shared" - that is true only for built-in xenotypes - so, the default germline xenotypes from the expansion (that is everything except sanguophages, hussars and genies) and germline modded. Basically - if two dirtmoles have a baby - kiddo will be a dirtmole. If, say, a dirtmole and a pigskin have a baby, it will be a weird hybrid, taking half and half from both parents at random - pregnancy may also fail if inherited genes give an embryo to low metabolism rating. The problems start with custom xenotypes. Let's say you create your own custom germline xenotype. And you have two pawns of the same xenotype that breed. Kiddo should be of the same xenotype, right? NOPE. The game basically treats both parents as separate xenotypes, even if they are the same and randomly distributes the genes. This means that if pregnancy even works (because the metabolism may stop it), you will get watered down line. Basically, if you plan on having a functional and breeding colony of your own custom xenotype, you have to use mods that add dominant genes, a 'consistent gene inheritance' mod and probalby a gene implanter (either vanilla archite one, or modded from alpha genes that allows implanting germline genes) - just to be sure. A character editor on standby will not hurt either.

It used to happen in weird ways with the VE Wasters because of their mutation genes. This is going back a ways though so fairly sure its fixed by now. I had wasters born without their toxic environment immunity, or missing drug dependencies, because the xenotype was 'technically' different due to the parents having unique mutation genes, so the kids had to roll on what they inherited, which often made for totally busted combos, haha. For my custom Xenotypes I've gone the same way you mention in the last paragraph, Gene Implanters. Between VE and Alpha you have options for everything, Germline or Xenogene, some of them are just a little more... violent... than others.

@@MysteriousFawx I've been using "Better gene inheritance" and "Consistent gene inheritance" in tandem - only after that my custom xenotype started inheriting genes properly - just tested it. The kid inherited all the core genes, even the xenotype label, and only cosmetic skin colour and hair colour genes got randomised. That being said, I do not know if using these two mods at the same time won't have effects on normal pawn mating - like hybridising between two different xenotypes.

When I did my one successful Rimworld series on my channel, I had one child be born stillborn. It was... not a happy episode. Then it wouldn't let me entomb the child in a sarcophagus, I had to bury it in a dirt grave. This game is weird.

Same, going back through the mechs blew my mind as to how much it actually includes. I've rarely used above high mechtech because of the investment but it's encouraged me to use it more often

Im a pretty big fan of the Mechanitor though farming chips is rather boring. I can't remember if you have done any of the Mechanitor add on mods if not I would humbly request a comprehensive overview as you tend to do 👍🏼

they also sport a rather fearsome amount of melee damage per hit, as well as being the most well armoured mechanoid in their tier, making them a fantastic frontliner for dealing with the next mechanoid threat

The discussion of biotech mechanics with very obviously anomaly-specific b-roll (shambler raid defense, fleshmass distress beacon) is kinda jarring in a way im not certain i like or dislike

Well, on second thought… in the same video, you do a crashed ship defense quest, which is also exclusive to a different dlc. I suppose i’ve just played with royalty for so long it blends in with the rest of the game.

My anomaly coverage had biotech mechanics in it too. I think people are just more aware of anomaly events as they stand out more, whereas biotech blends in a lot better.
