I didn't mention that, without a mod I use, you can just set the 'Do until X' to 1-2 and then unclick 'Count Equipped' for an even more automated set up. You may want to alter this on maps where you are going to be changing to all Parkas or all Dusters or such at once when seasons change, though, or else you'll only have a single parka laying around when the time comes. Lastly, if you want a little bit more buffer on tatter, you can set slightly above 51% (for instance, something drops below 51% while in combat and the mood debuff hits). - Hope that helps! As always, let me know if you have a request for another RimWorld video or guide!

I was about to suggest this. One of the problems with the "Do until colonists +1/2/X" method is that without the correct mod, colonists that are away on a caravan trip get removed from the "count equipped" count. I forgot which of the 5000 mods I have installed allows to count while away, so I'll keep it to unmodded. For example, if you have 10 colonists and your "do until" is set to 11 WITH "count equipped" turned on, your tailor will craft until there are 11 pieces of the clothing anywhere in the colony. Let's say that the 11th piece is now complete. If you then send 2 colonists on a caravan trip, the count will go down to 9 and cause your tailor to begin crafting again until there are 11 pieces. The count will then jump to 13 pieces once your colonists return from their trip. There are plenty of mods that make quality of life so much easier but I played the game in vanilla and unmodded until I beat it the first time. I suggest newer players do the same to avoid confusion. Once you're used to the game, I say go nuts since the modding community is ripe with cool stuff.

Does the game count clothes on the floor not in a stock pile? I remember in earlier versions, you had to set a stockpile under the tailor who dropped clothing on the floor in order to get him to stop at a certain point. Otherwise, if he was set to "Do until 1", he'd keep making clothes forever until a hauler came and put the clothing in a stockpile.
@Silerra
@Silerra Жыл бұрын
@@Liwet. That's still the case. You need a stockpile as a counter under the tailor for dropping clothes.

I prefer to set make until you have 1, without checking count equipped. This way, 1 piece of every apparel type is always available. When someones apparel is tattered, he changes clothes, the tattered piece is burnt on the furnace bill, and the tailor makes a new one. No need to change all the bills whenever colonists numbers change.
@AdamVsEverything

You are right on unchecking 'Count Equipped' - I am so used to using the mod 'Everybody gets one' that I completely forgot to uncheck count equipped. -- I will edit in the uncheck count equipped. Thanks for the reminder there! I don't generally burn the tattered clothing though, as I sell it to traders. It does take up a bit of storage space and doesn't sell for a ton, but can make the difference early to mid game in getting that precious neutromine from traders or such.

I now prefer the 'Do until have X' setting and then setting this to 1 (while still doing normal or better and 51 or 52% or better). Rimfeller Oil drilling mod lets you make hyper-weave. A Cataphract helmet a Flax Vest to start. Then pants, duster, and button shirt of hyper-weave. Change out the Cataphract with a Cowboy hat made of whatever for everyday walking around as such your pawns only have to grab the Helmet during raids. Still though on missions a Marine or Cata armor is preferred.

What's messed up about colonists not dressing appropriately for the weather is that they seem to have an arbitrary priority system based on material they prefer to wear rather than what has the best insulation. You'll see some colonists automatically switch between dusters and parkas when the seasons change so there's clearly a system in place that's supposed to make them do this on their own, but if there are a hundred dusters/parkas of a material that has less "priority" than what they're already wearing, they'll instead continue complaining about the temperature and dying of heatstroke or hypothermia. They also won't switch clothes if the quality is lower than what they're already wearing. The priority system should focus on whatever has the best insulation for the current temperature. It's an obviously broken mechanic with such a simple fix that would save people so much frustration in the long run.

As a note, Electrical Tailoring Benches can be used without power at the same speed as a hand tailoring bench. So if you don't have the excess materials for both but are planning on expanding, while also not having the power yet, this is a great stop gap solution. I usually actually exclusively build the electric tailor bench when I'm able to because I see the hand bench as a waste of time and resources when you have the construction skill.
@AdamVsEverything

@AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, this is an older guide (and one I will replace soon). These days it is much more simplified by doing the following: Set do until x Set x to 1 Set to normal or better (preference) Set to 52% (or preference) Don't checkmark anything. This way it doesn't matter if you have caravans, new people, deaths, etc. They will just keep one, good spare ready to go for when you need one (for a new recruit or due to someone hitting tattered.) You may want to set 'do until x' to 2 or 3 in larger colonies just in case multiple people get to the tattered clothes threshold at the same time. Hope that helps!
@ichifish
@ichifish 3 жыл бұрын
How did I never notice the "count equipped" option!?! Great tutorial. Comment and question: When I have the resources I like to make more like n+5 to 1) keep my crafters leveling up (seems like one of the hardest things to do recently), and 2) increase the chance that I'll get better quality gear (I just sell off the lesser quality stuff). I play with LMV's Deep Storage, though, so I've got plenty of space for the extras. One of the problems that I have with the outfits tab is that there is some gear that I want colonists to change when it gets tattered, like pants, but resource intensive gear, like recon armor and helmets, that I DON'T want them to take off automatically (nothing worse than lining everyone up for a raid and realizing three dudes are totally unarmored). I haven't figured out how to set that up, though. Any suggestions?
@AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 3 жыл бұрын
The only solution I can think of would be a mod solution in which you can apply multiple clothing rules to a single pawn. I don't use a ton of mods, though, so I am not 100% sure. You could, of course, click and force-wear something like a Marine Helm. This will override the clothing restrictions and they will never remove it. Then, once it disintegrates, force wear the next one. A bit micro-intensive though compared to clothing rules.
@ichifish
@ichifish 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdamVsEverything Now that you say it (gently, without pointing out that I'm an idiot), OF COURSE force-wear overrides the setting! For some reason I got it in my head that it wasn't worth setting up the outfits because they'd take off the armor, but clearly I can do both.

Without a mod the only thing you can do is 1 - strip prisoner and haul clothing out, then 2 - set a storage zone in the prison to accept only the clothing you want the prisoner to wear. @AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 2 жыл бұрын
As long as all those types are available for the colonists, they will wear whichever is the best. Most times, duster+flak+button down is actually better defense than recon armor. If you want to overwrite that sort of thing automatically, you might need a mod, I am not sure.

It's a lot easier to just set the desired quantity to one and don't check "count equipped". This way you have 1 excess in storage (when a pawn comes to put one on, your storage goes to zero and your tailor will make another). So its functionally the same, except you never have to change this number as your colonist population changes.
@AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, this is a really old guide that I need to redo. I've been doing it different from this video for a few years (as can be seen in the playthroughs throughout the last years on the channel). Set pants/button down/duster (my go to, anyway) to do until X where X= 1. Don't change any checkboxes. Set durability to 52% (personal preference), set quality to 'normal' early game, increase it late if want. If you get a huge colony change the x1 to x2 for a little bit of a buffer.

If you set "do until x" and "drop on floor" you will produce products forever because the game doesn't count items that are not in a storage area. Either make an area around the table to drop stuff on, a nearby area you bring finished stuff to or have someone haul it quickly (you might still go over limit)

It does if you checkmark 'look everywhere' but that leads to its own problems. This is an old guide, though, and one I intend to make a new update for relatively soon. I may go ahead and take it down but wanted to point to the new version when up.

I'm wondering if you or somebody here can help me. When I set the allowed outfits for my pawns, if I put it to 51% as shown in the video, my pawns with tattered clothing all get naked and refuse to put on any of my newly crafted clothing, even though the specific clothing items are allowed in the outfits. Lol, what am I doing wrong? I've done quite a bit of searching online and haven't found any answer to this. Edit: nevermind, I figured it out was. You see, the problem was that I am an idiot. This guide is outdated for 1.4 and 1.5. Do these couple things instead: Set the work order to normal and 52% (or higher). Do not checkmark count equipped etc. Set the pawns assigned clothing rules to any % that is LOWER than the work bench's bill (for instance 51%). It will stay working forever.
