Wow. I just discovered this video in February 2021. I saw Jethro Tull live in Madison; Wi. in 1977. The album "Songs from the wood" just came out and they played this song and a few others from the album. I instantly fell in love with this song and thought to myself, "This could be a holiday classic". Hearing this version, I think it more than ever. Just gorgeous.

Pretty. Sweet "re-arrangement" by Mr. Goodier. Quartet is amazing. Oop, there's Mr. Anderson: "Nice take, well done," he surely implies.

I think she just got cold & put on a light jacket. I'm surprised they didn't do a complete run through for video then dub in the spliced multi-take audio.

Love this. Ian was a big reason why I kept playing flute, self taught and never as good as the rest but playing has been a part of my life for 54 years ... and counting. (Oh, to get lessons from Ian!)

One of Jethro Tull's most under-rated songs. When their 'Songs of the Wood' album came up, this song was brushed aside by many.

Love this, though I wince at the cross in the background. The song is about the magic of winter and refers to druids. The celts had their own mythology of a divine child that preceded the birth of Christ.

The flute playing and string quartet were amazing. The arrangement is awesome as well. My only suggestion would be to use a stronger vocalist or add a lot of vocal harmonies. Unfortunately Ian's voice is not as strong as it was back in the early days of Jethro Tull. I commend Ian for continually exploring different musical configurations for his music compositions. Overall great job!
@BetteTheRed3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you couldn't just amplify his voice a bit more, although I also like the idea of some not overwhelming background harmonies.
