Instead he, for about 10 seconds, moved over there and then showed Jay's face and ignored the engine. I had to read here to see if it was only me that was driven nuts by this.

I had a two toned purple 1948 caddy when I live din L.A. in the 80s. Loved the car except when I had to try and stop. Love me some caddy cars. I had a 68 rag top and a 63 Fleetwood limo. The Fleetwood had features you did not see on other cards for a decade. Thanks Jay. Great to see what people are doing today in restoration and modification.

I have a 49 caddy restomod with an LSA motor and Art Morrison chassis etc. 1948 had the horse shoe gauge cluster (last year), 1949 was the first year of the V8 overhead cam engine and the caddy line won the motor trend car of the year award. My caddy is a survivor wearing it's original black lacquer paint.

The Ring Brothers always amaze me with their attention to detail. They seem to take extreme pleasure in fooling the eye by substituting a new material for an older version but then disguising it so it's not noticeable, or perfectly recreating an old materials shape but leaving it exposed as the new choice. Just amazing in every way, as always.

The man had the money, a dream, and the right men to fulfill it for him. This is not a true restore job. It is a "let's create something new with a touch of the old" job. In my opinion they were entirely successful at that. Personally I like it. What the Ring brothers accomplished is nothing short of brilliant.
@Pumpkingilmour
@Pumpkingilmour 7 жыл бұрын
I agree. The mentality of "they desecrated a classic again" doesn't wash with me. This thing is ANCIENT. 1948 was almost 70 years ago. Imagine back in 1980s salvaging the bones of a car from 1910 and everyone saying that you should drive it closer to stock..... Someone here made the point that they salvaged the old cadillac shell from eventual date with the crusher or rusting away in a scrap yard. I love the concept of taking something so old which was probably baking in the desert sun in California with the linoleum cooking on the dash and so hopelessly oppressive and making it so incredibly luxurious and comfortable inside, and its even white, which means it has a new lease on life in the desert sun, staying cool and air conditioned.

The Ring Brothers did exactly what the person paying the bill asked them to do. Why should they get grief for that? For me? I like it. Modern performance and amenities and classic styling. My one critique is I would have used chrome instead of the carbon fiber. Overall very well done.

I love this.. I think it's great that you can still have the beautiful looks of a 48 caddie with the benefit of modern engineering and that's what a car truly should be, a blend of art and engineering.. I agree an older touch on the interior would have been nice though.

It's easy to be critical when you aren't the one who put wrench to bolt. It is amazing what they've built here and there are many little features and thoughts put into this car. The quality of the work, the tremendous amount of knowledge needed to make all the changes, and the sheer labor of such a build are worthy of appreciation. I've always tried to find the "fun" in whatever the car is and, even if it's something that is completely out of my field of interest, I try to appreciate the passion of the person who put it together. Jay hit the nail on the head when he said that there would be people who wouldn't get this build. This isn't the Miata, with an LS swap, from the pop up shop down the street. This is what 99% of the custom builders aspire to create and what 1% actually do.

Note to the director, pan view of what the talent is discussing, not the talent. I seen this car at siema and it was a crowd collector with the hood open, and nobody even noticed it when the hood was closed! Yes I know that there isn't anything special about the motor but when you stuff it down a 48 then it is a thing of beauty

Vidar Mathisen because modern black plastic interior has its own beauty if you can believe that... 🤔 and its what GM wanted 😃 Its all about the publicity selling new models, as they don't make money on old models. It's far more interesting and unique doing it this way than the other way around, and it all looks original.

If somebody gifted this thing to me, I'd sell it immediately. I don't oppose rest-o-moding a car, and I have some ideas on which cars I'd have rest-o-moded if I had money to burn, but it wouldn't be on the extreme side. I'm glad that there are people who know how to do this kind of building, and that they can make money doing it. I am in awe that they can do such a high quality build.

@Bastiaan ten Doornkaat An E63 motor would suit me better. But I'd take the V12 anyday as well. Mercedes can build some serious engines. Easily some of the best in the world.

It does make you wonder how the general public would react to the graceful style of older cars married to the comfort, convenience, safety, and handling of the new ones. Am I the only person who thinks most current cars look like angry Tonka toys?

They look like jellybeans and gumdrops. It would have been interesting if the Chrysler 300 had had retro styling a la 1968 300...not on introduction though...but ''next generation'' ...Speaking of Tonka...the F-250 finally made it to the Tonka truck look.....

The 1948 Cadillac body is pre carbon. The body is from the era of big heavy bodies & chrome. The black paint takes away some of the zing & pazazz of the late 40's body style IMO. As long as the owner likes it that's all that matters. The practical daily benefits of updated engine & interior are well worth the price. Many hours of 'how to' and hard work in that car. Well done!!

I like this build/video a lot. My next door neighbor (growing up) had a 48 Caddy Cpe in maroon paint. I loved standing in the driveway just looking at it's profile fascinated by the hidden fuel filler.

He said they moved the wheels forward so they likely had to cut a portion out of the front resulting in a reduction of the weight distribution.

This is a fantastic car. Best I have ever seen on the show, over 8 years or so. I would like to see the engine bay, as well as the interior. Another 20 minutes would be terrific. Also Jay, I saw you at Senator McCains Service last Saturday. Thank you for attending. He was a great American Patriot, and held so strongly to his view of Values. Although I’m Canadian, I shall miss him. He was a great man,

Appreciated the sharing of the electrical considerations involved, not to mention the myriad of problems concerning taking a 'body on frame' to a body on a unibody chassis. Wonderful result of a resolution of those problems. not to mentioned the others that undoubtably cropped up. Thanks!

I don't like the mesh grilling on the front. The rest is amazing. It looks like what cadillac would come out with if they tried to release a high end resto-mod. Their fit, finish and interior work is top notch, even better than oem. (yes i know they use a lot of the oem parts. They also custom make a ton of things on their cars and always pull off having it fit in perfectly with the oem stuff)
