When I went there I talked to an associate and they said that first. You need $3M to restore and fire up the locomotive, a place to run it, a crew, an organization, ability to maintain it, and to have some place to keep it. So one would have to either be a multi-millionaire or have an organization to afford it.

I’d sure love to do that myself, 1522 happens to be my third favorite steam locomotive.

I pray that someday they will agree to restore the 1522 to it's former glory and have it back on the rails 🥺

There are 5 other T-54 mountains that one of which could just get restored instead. Also, the 1522 was withdrawn due to rising insurance costs, was because the SLSTA didn’t allow new members into their organization. So there was nobody who could take over for them. So they used the rising insurance costs as a convenient guise for retiring 1522

They operened her Cab up to the public back in 2018 and I also got to ring her bell as well as live out part of my dream of being in her cab.

As great as it would be to see her run again, the chances are very slim the museum would ever allow it, and she has nowhere to run since Steam isn’t allowed on the mainline unless it has ptc

I know it won’t run anytime soon, but I think the closest they could do is put some compressed air through the locomotive to at least blow the whistle similar to to what the rail giants museum does.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. We want to hear 1522's voice again. She just sits there in that museum like a statue.

I asked them 2 months ago if I could ring 1522’s bell and they said no but I could ring 5011’s but it’s got tape over the bell and the cabs rotting

I wish that was me sitting the cab. I bet it felt great getting to ring that bell. From what I read on wikipedia, 1522 needs a new flue sheet. That shouldn't be too hard right?
