Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 is over but Amazon prime video just released the Making of Season 1. With 6 minute special X-Ray making of episodes showing behind the scenes of Rings of Power. Now not many are convinced that Galadriel is a good character or that Sauron is worth watching. But can the showrunner interviews convince audiences that LOTR: Rings of Power is worth watching?

The making of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, where Amazon reveal that behind the scenes the show was even worse! This is part 1 of what I think will be a 3 part series (having already recorded the first 4 making of parts). And BOY believe me do you get some absolute gold in this show, from the showrunner himself no less lmao. I dread to think what's in the last 4 parts that I've not watched yet! Also with Disney Plus's willow coming up alongside National Treasure, I think we'll have more reviews soon. So let me know what you thought of what you saw in the video, and which reviews would you prefer to see, willow, national treasure? Both or something else? Let me know your thoughts below and as always, thanks for watching :)

You know what annoys me most about the Harfoots? How frequently they reference their damn feet. Hobbits don't talk about their feet. Their idioms don't wax lyrical about their feet. They're just their feet! It's just proof to me that these writers and showrunners don't care even a little bit about the characters and only view them thru purely surface-level characteristics.

And fur, because we figured ice is cold so what would a troll need if he’s cold? Fur” Yeah, keep hiring based on race, gender and sexuality instead of basing it on skill and merit. This is such an unfair thing to say. The artists working on this show probably did the best they could with what liberty they had. These arent jobs you do because you have no other choice, these people are probably very passionate about their work. The all thing about the "icy ice troll" isnt stupid, it doesnt show a lack of talent or whatever, in fact it actually shows that some people did put some thought into what they were doing because they cared about these details and making the show more believable. The fact the production have nothing more to say or show in the behind the scene is where the cringe is. And this is not on the artists behalf, and more importantly this has nothing to do with people's race, gender and sexuality. You better watch you own biases to begin with.

@@m.poppins4843you are right, it should not be. But Amazon, showrunners and actors made it very clear during the promotion that it is very much about race, gender and sexuality. It moves from a passion project at the bottom of the hierarchy and by the time it reaches the top it is full of obvious corporatism, superiority complexes and thinking they are better than the source material.

"20 years is an entire lifetime for a dwarf." I'm sorry, what? Dwarves live several centuries, in Tolkien's world. 20 years may not be "the blink of an eye", but it's not a massive portion of their life, either. It's maybe 5%. For a human, it would be the equivalent of not seeing your friend for 3-4 years. A while, to be sure, but not most of your life or anything.

It's just such shame, really. Going through the whole behind-the-scenes thing, i'm farily certain where all the money went: Into preproduction work that was scrapped. What we were given are not 60m per episode, but just a fraction of that. The whole thing reeks of corporate medding, rewrites and different showrunners coming and going for multiple times. In other words: What is now the show, is not what was pitched and was stuck in production hell for a looooong time. Rings of Power as it is now is probably just an attempt at minimizing losses.

You could tell that Peter Jackson and Co. poured their whole souls into the movies. And the final project attests to that! RoP just seems like an assembly line operation to produce the next product for us to consume. These interviews were so shallow and devoid of heart.

The movie "Kung Pow" has a scene that I think expresses just what my takeaway from the showrunners on their thought process was: "Okay, so here were my options. A, quickly duck sideways, dodge the claw, then take him out with a spinning back kick, or B, take the claw in the face, then roll on the ground and die." [action resumes; Tang gets hit with the claw] "Hmm, should have gone with A...." He can say all that he wants about their taking time to make everyone combat ready and trained, the few fights that all 5'2" of Morfydd Clark has that isn't against some CGI boogeyman are with obvious stuntmen who are super accommodating. You can almost literally see that guy in the Numinorrrrrian marketplace go "So is this where I let go of my sword and hand it to you"? Is it later?" not to mention the two "guards" who walk into the cell and are all like: "Is this far enough? should we move back further?" It's right up there with that scene in Mortal Kombat where Johnny Cage is fighting those guys in the suits and punches one, kicks him and stands there and goes: "This is where you fall down." and the guy blinks then willfully tosses himself backwards to land on his back on the floor. When the director started talking about empathy between races in Middle Earth (and presumably elsewhere), I realized that he has empathy backwards. Relationships don’t start with empathy-characters/people share a goal, and in working toward that goal *together*, they develop empathy and camaraderie with each other. The reason these character feel contrived, like they’re fake people, is because the director told everyone, “Hey, you’re friends! Be empathetic!” But he didn’t give them a reason to have developed those deep-seated feelings toward one another. We’re just given a quick backstory and told to accept it, without proof of that shared history. It’s less about “you didn’t do (and thus I resent you)” and more about “you did do (and thus I trust you).” As a counterexample, take Gimli and Legolas. They distrusted each other due to long-standing grudges that each race held against the other. But in their shared goal to destroy the Ring, they developed trust and fondness for one another because they had to work together and depend on one another, else the Ring would never be destroyed and the Free People of Middle Earth would perish.
@sully2737
@sully2737 Жыл бұрын
When talking about 'empathy between races', there also should be actual differences between said races. In ROP, there are no distinguishing features from one race to another, with the exception of ear shape or foot size, and they all act like stupid, obnoxious humans. There were pronounced differences between races within Tolkien's LOTR universe, with each having its own complex history, culture, and language. In ROP, I feel that we're all just being gas-lighted into believing there are actual differences from one group to another, with the exception being that some are always filthy, and others are clean. Galadriel could have done the sword-fighting instruction scene with the Harfoots or the Southlanders instead of the teenagers from Numenor....and no one would have noticed the difference. Galadriel, as a character, would still be an insufferable B----, and each group would still be nonsensically indistinguishable from any other group. Take any group, change them into the clothes of a different group...and they would just blend in. Clean up 'Nori' and she looks as much an elf as "Elrond" does. In a show that supposedly celebrates diversity, why does every race beings look exactly the same?

This Series is a wasted Opportunity! Sauron was supposed to be a (pseudo) Promethean figure generating religious engineering through displaying powers and knowledge to prehistoric men in Middle-earth. He should be a mix of Mephistopheles from Goethe's Faust + Azazel from the book of Enoch + Asmodeus from the Ring of Solomon + Lúcifer from Paradise Lost. In the Series he was a garbage mystery box. Galadriel was supposed to be a sage and a political opponent of Annatar's reformist ideas. She should be philosopher-queen. In the series she was a Karen. Numenor was supposed to be a discussion about death vs life vs human nature vs immortality. In the series we had "Make Númenor Great Again". Wtf. They should show the south and the east of Middle-earth inspired, like Tolkien said in an interview in 1966, in Africa (Ethiopia and Saracens to Harad) and Asia (China and Japan to Rhûn). But no! We had just one black elf, one black hobbit and one black Númenórean queen.

The story of Kullervo was written by JRRR Tolkien between 1912-1916 after he read the Finnish Kalevala. After Finnish folk tales were collected and published they inspired a great spirit of Finnish nationalism and fostered the country's bid for independence from Sweden. When published in English in the late 19th century, Tolkien was so impressed by them he resolved to create a mythology for England, which he felt had been lost due to the numerous invasions of the British Isles over the centuries. Although he never completed his Kullervo, it later formed the basis of his Children of Hurin storyline, so central to the Silmarillion. This is what Tolkien was referring to in his letter about him wanting to "draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama." The Finnish Kalevala inspired Finnish artists like classical composer Jean Sibelius and famous painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela to bring the Kalevala into music form and into painting. What Tolkien found "absurd" in his attempt to achieve the same result with his "mythology of England" was that he alone was trying to achieve a nationalistic, mythic, Ethnic identity of England by writing pseudo-myth inspired by other sources, whereas those sources, unlike his own mythology, had existed for hundreds of years like the Greek, Roman, Germanic, and Celtic stories, and in a special place in Tolkien's heart were the Finnish stories. Whether Tolkien succeeded or not will become apparent if and when the English people will finally wake up from their slumber and realize their Ethnic and national identity before it is too late.

Or all the ways they COMPLETELY WRECKED the Timeline! Or all the many ways they changed key characters in the most disrespectful of ways! They should have showed reverence and respect for the source material but instead treated it like a dirty diaper! Something they felt entitled to just completely toss out all together! I hope they lost a fortune on this. Personally, I think the Tolkien estate should sue them for screwing with the story and timeline as much as they did. Especially, seeing as it was widely reported that they were not supposed to be allowed to make any significant changes that would affect the main story. Something for which they did so time and time again! This show is AN ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION!!
