At first when I heard the point in the beginning about detractors having their day ruined by seeing a minority in a movie I was worried the whole video was going to be reducing the criticisms down to that, but I am glad I heard you out and listened to the rest. I appreciate your insights! I think one place that Rings of Power specifically does have a bit of an uphill battle in the regard of being an adaptation is that it is not only being compared to the second age source material it is adapting, but also compared against the monolith of a successful adaptation that the Peter Jackson trilogy was to the same franchise. The films indeed deviate from the books in many places, but overall its in service to the pacing, story and time constraints that the movies were working within and in almost all other aspects sought to maintain the spirit of and faithfulness to Tolkien's work as best it could. While I can't speak to the specifics of which critics would identify, I can say that there seems to be a theme of their critiques being that a number of the changes made in Rings of Power seem less deliberate in comparison and more of genuine oversights, and in the case of the deliberate changes seem to be less so about making it fit better within the confines of the TV series format and more for alternative/external influence reasons, of which Peter Jackson notoriously stated in behind the scenes coverage that they avoided doing in his films as they didn't want to make it "their film", they wanted to try and make "Tolkien's film". I believe that the fandom and dedicated audiences picked up on that level of respect where they feel Rings of Power doesn't seem to in comparison, and even had similar critiques of The Hobbit trilogy despite it also being a Peter Jackson work*. I didn't finish out season 1 myself, but I am glad to hear it sounds like they might be bringing it back around on track with the source material after listening to feedback, and would be happy if season 2 could bring the series into a redeeming light like Picard did with its season 3. I would be interested in taking a look out of curiosity if nothing else if they do. The only thing I have to say about the trailer is extremely nitpicky lol, and that is in that I'm not overly fond of the tease they give us of the giant water creature that I assume is supposed to be one of the nameless things. The horror of them is supposed to be in that they are mysterious and unknown, and that their evil can only be imagined but not explained. Eldritch beings, of course being the analogue. When that mystique is broken then it ruins the dread of curiosity since we then have an objective sight of what they are and they suddenly become tangible. But that's a very small part of the trailer of course, and who knows if those even are supposed to be some of the nameless things. Just speculative on my part. Thanks again for your thoughts! You've earned my subscription today. Looking forward to more updates from you on Middle-earth content 🙏

I appreciate your feedback, and thank you for watching the whole video. I do enjoy the Hobbit movies, but I feel those movies became over saturated with unnecessary scenes. I do feel the same with some scenes in RoP, but I can appreciate their effort still. You are right. The teaser almost shows a little too much of certain things, but I want to be optimistic that they are willing to understand the book more.

I know it can sound eye rolling by the first statement, I would usually not bring that up, but it's something I've heard quite a bit for this show and it's very odd. Luckily, you had stuck around to understand more of what I was trying to tell.

I saw reviews for the first season so I never watched it but if the second one is good I might have too!

Honestly I'm hoping they do a soft reboot and season 2 can be the main show for the story.

I can agree with that. I wouldn't say this, in particular, is trash, but I get you.
