The 2022 US Open runs from August 23 - September 11 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 142nd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Daniil Medvedev is the men’s singles reigning champion and Emma Raducanu is the women’s singles reigning champion. Last year, both players claimed their first Grand Slam title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. First time I've ever seen Rafa finish with a running forehand down the line in such fashion. You normally see those kinds of passing shots in the middle of the match. Still. It's unbelievable no matter how many times we see him pull that shot off. From the back of the court, in the position that he's in, on the run, under pressure, and that thing just bends in perfectly almost all the time.

Considering Hijikata is still practically a rookie, it is incredibly impressive that he managed to take a set from Nadal! Fantastic playing from Nadal is expected (that brilliant match point! 🤯), but Hijikata has our attention, big time!

Notice after the 1st & only win he changed his shirt..when he beat Nadal he had on bright yellow it's a distraction same color as the ball..they made him change..he never won after that

I was shocked that Hijikata took the first set against Nadal. I thought it was going to be a similar episode to what Tsitsipas or Fritz had. But Nadal came back. Congrats to both Hijikata and Nadal. Best US Open so far!

There is no player more passionate as Rafa.💫 He already has 23 slams and lotsa other titles, but he celebrates🥳 like its his first slam match win. Thats where Stefanos and Fritz lost the plot and lost in round 1😪: they did not focus on the match but assumed they will win and could not adjust and step it up when things went wrong. Rafa a master of comeback, passion and focus. Watch and learn🤣

Wow. Match point. That's a pretty heavy way to end the match on a shot like THAT. The speed of the ball. Back when I was growing up, the only way you could hit a ball like that was off an overhead return. And it was just to see if you could do it. It never had accuracy, proper depth, and that confidence. Always been a Nadal fan. And you get rewarded, since he's been around so long, by occasionally recognizing what the people, who don't like him, go through watching him batter and beat so many game foes. If you think choosing your sports heroes is this unimportant decision, it can give you a LOT in the way of entertainment. If his abdominal injury and feet are OK, could be an interesting tournament for him.

Yeah, Nadal didn’t have the ideal preparation post Wimbledon, but a seasoned veteran like Nadal being pushed by a young kid from Sydney with little professional tennis experience, provided an awesome showing and it’s testament to the young lad. He is now one of a few Aussies I can truly support as an Australian unlike the other guy who made the Wimbledon final.

Noticing that Nadal is not grunting that much anymore. Seems like he is now just playing his shots and only a few times, he grunts. Weird to see Nadal do that since we are so used to his grunts since 2005.

Rinky thought he stood a chnace when he got that 1st set off Rafa. He didnt realize the match was just getting started! Rafa's intensity alone fried this kid's brain by the 2nd set with more tennis to go. Rafa is ready for 5+sets EVERY SINGLE MATCH mentally. Its why he outlasts these FRENCH FRIES!

People have to remember rafa is not 100% physically and mentally has not played in a while just 1 game in the lead up. In a normal day this guy would not have won a set off him, but rafa being so humble let him have his moment in the spotlight.

That was a helluva match point shot but I don't think his feet are going to hold up to win another US Open. I think he would have been better off skipping Wimbledon, resting to make a run at the US Open, strategically speaking.

Why Rafa doesn't serves like 2010 US Open anymore?? He was hitting 135+ mph missile Serves and he was literally unbeatable. With that serve, Rafa will become even more stronger and unstoppable force.
