Who’s been to the Bunker’s jam in Minneapolis? Sunday, Monday night. Cory Wong on guitar, Michael Bland, Sonny T. It’s so funky and it’s low volume.

Somebody has deep pockets...I wish I could afford to hire Sonny and Michael.
@meyerk454 жыл бұрын
They're all friends in Minneapolis. It's a very generous community. By the way, it's not impossible to hire Michael and/or Sonny. They're not out to bleed anybody. But, yeah. It will cost something.. lol- Get at Michael on Facebook. Y'all can discuss it.

Michael Bland...what can one say? There are some who could have played _more_ on this song, but none who could have played *better* His genius is in details and discipline. The first 19 seconds of the song is stripped down with drums out front, so he dirties up the pattern with some flammy stuff to keep it musically interesting; then he locks in drum machine precision when the band joins in. Each fill is super tasteful Motown-esque, and he waits till the Bridge to show off some chops to avoid stealing any shine from the singer (aka, the guy paying him). Every open hi-hat splash is calculated and spread out to keep it fresh. The most impressive to me personally, in a weird way, is when he just sits out for a measure. Literally just stops playing, and comes back in to push the groove over the hump. A lesser musician would be tripping over himself trying to pull off the most athletic double-bass-pedal Snapchat fill they could muster, completely killing the vibe in the process. I mean just top, top level stuff. Edit: Oh by the way he has ability to hear perfect pitch and tunes his snare to the tonic.
