Found it full of sludge at the local scrap yard, did not expect it to last 5 weeks, it lasted 5 years or so! Thank-you to my supporters to make it possible to upload this and get my workshop running again!

New Ametek 2-stage motor and that thing'll come back to life... :P

Only problem with old vacuums. The commutator winding's glue get's brittle, then the motor is junk. We were lucky to have our Craftsman Shop vac for 30 years for pond cleaning lol! Nothing left of it, the metal bin rusted away to nothing, the wheels were gone, so it was just the top and a random 5 gallon bucket from the mid 90's.

This happened to our very expensive Finnish made Mirka vacuum cleaner. It served me through my apprenticeship and then some on its stock brushes but then one morning it decided to let the smoke out. Parts were prohibitively expensive and roughly 8 weeks from Finland so we just junked it and bought a brand new Festool cleaner and 150mm sander combo

I buy replacement vacuum units for those for around $30, and they last years again. Gives an otherwise good vacuum a great lease of life, plus the older metal ones are a lot more robust as well. But, so long as there are ones in the scrapyard for free just grab one and do a motor transplant to the case, the vacuum units inside are all very similar, and are to a great degree interchangeable between models in the lower end. Even the top end ones ( except the Dyson screamers) use the same basic 5 different suction block assemblies, which only differ in number of stages, if they have a bypass outlet or the diameter of the inlet side, all use a nearly identical motor block and around the same power consumption.

Hello Aissue 50 - you are a most knowledgeable young chap - do you consult-I have a 3phase 15 kva step down transformer 415/220v - I want to rewire and reverse feed it to get step up 240v/415v single phase - is it possible - happy to correspond off line.
@Aussie506 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, yes you can do that, I have done it before, you just loose roughly 50% of your duty cycle/amps. I only used mine for short cycles tho, I cannot garnetee lifespan on it
