Utilization is due to lack of microcode for the CPU. I had the same issue with the X5470 modded into a LGA 775 socket. Microcode updated and problem went away. EDIT: The Microcode needed would need to be given to LTT by intel, as the microcode for this CPU was never actually released. For those who don't know, a BIOS file contains several microcodes for various CPUs that allow the motherboard to communicate properly with the CPU. If it's missing, the Motherboard will do it's best to utilize it, but such as this case, it doesn't know how to use 6 cores.

This x2, when I was in the middle of installing my E5450 into an ASUS P5Q Pro, it wouldn't even go past POST, but it was able to get into BIOS setup, and I was able to fix that problem by flashing it to a modified version of the latest BIOS using ASUS EzFlash 2 (believe it was called), which definitely confirms two things. One, that its a microcode issue. Two, each motherboard may have different effects or reactions to a CPU that is not found in the microcode for said motherboard's BIOS.

Not the engineer but... 7:27, he's staring at the exact ASUS BIOS he needed to be on. ASUS was famous (or infamous if you're Intel) for shipping indev microcode packages with certain BIOS revisions. His first thought upon seeing the correct voltage was to immediately update.

Thank you for showing us this process. I am newer to the channel and I love it. I was one of the kids that they tested computers on in a school district almost 40 years ago. And I remember teaching myself than my parents how to use the computer. No one knew how or what to do and that was the best way for me to learn. So seeing y’all do what your doing makes me so happy to see I wasn’t the only one who liked taking things apart just to find out how it worked and then putting together again in my own way to see exactly why things do what they do and what else they could do!

Legit had to do with an old Athlon mobo running an AthlonXP. If it wasn't overclocked from it's detected settings, the BIOS wouldn't see the CPU as an AthlonXP 2000+... it was WEIRD.

My acer aspire c24-760 idles at around around 75C at 3 WATTS! My old PC that ISN'T an all in one has a 95w processor (quad q9300) and it still manages to get the IDLE temperatures of the acer aspire c24-760 under load! I dont get it.

That 82-83% utilization means that one of the six cores isn't being used, for some reason. That's exactly 5/6ths.

After watching your video i have the same problems with my Everest engineering sample CPU. I was unaware mine was throttling too but at 90%. I have the CPU in a X79 sabertooth. Mine would default at 1.6V cpu also and would shutdown the system after a minute because it would get so hot. After getting a triple rad CPU cooler it gave me time to figure out how to get this thing stable. Setting mine manually to 1.4V made it rock solid and played games on it for months with no issues. I'm guessing it would probably be similar to yours. Now time to figure out why its throttling. This CPU is also 6 core and hyper threaded.

Stopped using fleaBay long ago... i proved the scammer sent a bogus vehicle and they literally banned me for be scammed and sent a bogus vehicle.. they changed their 10k vehicle guarantee because of me, because they lie about it.. i went over every single page proving I was due a full refund... yet only paypal(both verified paypal users,) gave me some of the scammed cash back... so that proved i was scammed right there.

Yeah the Everest chips never took off with the traders but there were some niche customers ( we sold a pair of them to ccp games a number of years back as special battle nodes for Eve Online - they disclosed them at one of their keynotes) and they took custom bios / custom imm2 code to run the fans at 100% and special 2u heatsinks. Only allowed a 1 year warranty on them. Still might be able to dig up the x3650 code if your serious on wanting to get them running :)

The reason why HFT went to FPGAs was because of how easily you can make custom accelerators on FPGA. And FPGAs also come with a ARM processor so you can very efficiently partition your code between the ARM core and your custom accelerators.

you can't put custom spun cpu's in a board that has no bios profile/ID's/microcode for them and expect auto to work, you have to manually set the voltage, clocks, and most importantly current/wattage limits

@@Madrrrrrrrrrrr he specifically said he would need a bios designed to work with the cpu at 10:20 and earlier he mentioned likely needing a motherboard designed to work with the higher TDP. Hyper threading avoids stalls while waiting for some instructions to execute. While waiting it executes other instructions, interleaving them. But I'm wondering if that part of the utilization issue is the lack of HT/SMT functionality?

The real unicorn chip on the X79 platform is the Xeon E5-1680 V2. It's an unlocked 8-core 16-thread Ivy Bride chip and can be found on eBay for ~$175. I've bought them before and you can overclock them to 4.6GHz on water, sometimes more. The rumor is that Intel would have released an i7 counterpart to this chip if they had any competition in the HEDT space in 2013. Since there was none, we were stuck with the 6-core 12-thread i7-4960X.

One application the Everest series saw actual deployment was in EVE Online. Since the server code architecture was entirely single-threaded in nature (the roots of which hail back to 2002!), increased load in a single solar system couldn't scale across cores. They used these in two different specific instances. If you had one of the game's legendary multi-thousand-pilot fleet fights break out, the server node would all to its knees. Enter Everest. If you made a request ahead of time for a specific solar system to be reinforced for a major tactical deployment, they would move the system onto the reinforced Everest node to keep the game playable, even if it was only at 10-20% real-time speed due to load. The other use was for the game's main trade hub, which regularly hosts 1500-2500 pilots at any time, conducting thousands of transactions every second. not too far off from its original intended use in trading stocks.

maybe the latest bios’s don’t have support for the cpu. because that voltage on the old bios looked better. But in all honesty it would require a custom board to run at that tdp and a custom bios so it can use the full cpu and it would need to be cooled with the chiller.

You BIOS settings did not resolve over voltage issue? You could set a lower voltage or use XMP auto program mode on some ASUS bioses to get CPU/RAM up to par with each other.

@@bosstowndynamics5488 The CPUID and specifications for the bios are set in the silicon at the fab and can't be changed. Much like how they laser cut certain cores/units in CPUs and GPUs to disable them for lower end products.

Bosstown Dynamics I’m not sure on that one, it is possible that newer CPUs have that capability but it isn’t something I have heard of happening. It is worth noting that processors do have a small amount of data that can be re-written, but that is for micro code updates and that isn’t what the bios initially reads to get the CPUID and initial voltage\frequency\multiplier settings.

8:17 lol just like my q9550, I swapped an e8400 with it and the damn thing always showed 84% max usage, years later I realized I needed a microcode update, so I can tell you the same now :P just no idea where to get that, oh and funny thing you could boot the quad on it but windows would freeze and it was a buggy detection, you had to update the bios with it for it to settle down and work normally, what a bizarre way of doing things, nowadays the board wont even post with an unsupported cpu

04:15 That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I ran a 3930K at 4.6GHz 24/7 for over 6 years. That's 6 cores and 12 threads on a larger process node. It was with a custom water loop, of course, but the temperatures never got to 80C, and I don't recall power usage being very high at all.

Have you checked the power settings in windows? i remember i had some issue with that on a old cpu, it was set to 90 or 80% i think, for some reason, just put it too 100% and it went full speed ;)

I actually still run an x79 setup i went from a 4820k to a 6core 4930k woke it back up. With a cooler master all in one water Im able to run 4.5ghz max and safely 24/7 it at 4.4 the voltage thing is all 2011 cpus the voltage changes every boot if you leave auto. X79 need to manual set everything and it will over volt so then you have to comp for that or add voltage offsets. Upping the pll to 1.9 helps stability a ton

I have ran into the same problem once,it is E7 4890V2 in my case.After some digging on the Internet,I found that there a lots of complains about IVY-Bridge CPUs just can't run full speed under a stress test.It eventurally turns out that MODERN WINDOWS OS like window 8 8.1 and 10 treat IVB CPUs in a wierd way.The CPU ferquency multiplyer can be stuck from x8 to x29 due to t a function named "BD PROCHOT" .After turnning it off using a software called "Throttle stop",IVB CPUs then can run at full speed.It did work for me,may be it could also solve the problem appeared in this video.

True. The bios usually takes the CPU into a safe mode where power saving features are disabled, sometimes running it on a single core, max speed. So they can run warm in the BIOS. this is done so you can disable these features by entering the BIOS before boot...

Please stop looking at task manager for Load and Frequency! It's buggy and reports completely wrong values in some situations! Please look at Hwinfo to see actual frequency and load values! It's a lot more accurate

You need to use a proper motherboard for cpu's like X5698 (1366), BlackOps (2011) 4 core 4.4g and 6 core 4.6g, unlocked Xeons etc. The answer since x48 has always been Rampage Extreme. In your case RIVE and for X5698 R3E Edit: Bios 4901 from 05/14/2014 should work for 6/6 at 4.6g+
