At least HS2 continuing would have created jobs and infrastructure in this country. What's the Rwanda scheme doing except making Rwanda government officials wealthier? The trouble with "infrastructure" projects in the uk is that they cost so much. They make a big deal of it at the time, how it will create jobs and bring in money...and its cobblers. It creates jobs for a few years in construction. When its built the jobs are gone. There is nothing long term. And the costs and hangers on milk it dry so it ends up costing four times as much as it should. All industry is gone, steel making, tank and ship building, textiles and clothes...there is nothing left here we make or produce in large numbers as we cant compete. That used to employ lots of people full time long term jobs. The latest madness is to build all over farm land so we produce less food in the Uk for a growing population and import more of what we eat! When it should and could be grown here. Its all completely mad.

Rwanda could be the policy that finishes Sunak. How he thinks that flying a negligible amount of people out of this country will satisfy the Tory right or Reform voters is beyond belief - even if he gets it through parliament, which he may not. It's a lose - lose scenario for Sunak, and with such a huge cost to something that'll make little difference to illegal immigration figures, what an idiot he was to make this his flagship policy.

It's about performative cruelty. Like painting over a mural because you can't be too welcoming to unaccompanied minors. Doesn't solve anything, doesn't change the numbers coming into the country, costs a ridiculous amount of money but you get to look like you hate immigrants more than anyone. Which is brilliant, you don't want to solve issues that make your base show up to vote, you want them to be angry about the issue and to think you're the only person who cares as much as they do. Dull bureaucratic solutions that improve things and don't fire up the base are exactly what they want to avoid.

The policy to send immigrants to Rwanda is a poor one and is not the fault of the Rwandan government. I visited Rwanda in December (totally unrelated to UK immigration) and was lucky enough to meet government ministers who are young and ambitious for the country. According to CIA, Rwanda is the best place to do business in Sub-Saharan Africa because it's systems work (including finance system) and it has the lowest incidence of corruption. I am sick and tired of hearing about the Rwanda plan. The numbers to be sent are minimal compared to those who arrive on an almost daily basis. If half the effort that has been put into the Rwanda farce was put into noting the country out it would at least have helped a bit but, no, our government still goes on about it.

Perhaps if the party you support Tim hadn't virtually stopped processing asylum claims for the previous 5 years the asylum seekers in hotels could have had their application rejected and removed or approved and be contributing to the economy.

Totally agree but boat crossings are like Brexit all over again. Make people angry or scared so that rational thought stops...then tell them your solution to the problem you've created. Keep repeating the emotional trigger words and the solution. If you repeat often enough then it doesn't matter how crazy it is. Three words often best Leave means Leave, Brexit means Brexit, Stop the Boats, Don't Think Through - sorry, don't mention that one!

1. If you’re ‘offended’ by small boat crossings, why not set up safe and legal routes for people fleeing persecution to have their claims processed. 2. Applicants being processed HERE under the artificial Backlog the Tories have created could be totally avoided. 3. It’s the choice of the government where these human beings are being put in limbo. They aren’t ’hotels that most locals can’t afford to stay in’. They are repurposed buildings that USED to be hotels. His entire point is intentionally disingenuous.

As far as know you are correct, but the thing is we have no idea who these people are and what kind of background they have, to me the whole thing looks as shady as it comes, and sunaks plan is going to backfire on us badly. By that time he and his family will be off out of the country...just like Cameron did u till things cooled down a bit, how he ever was awarded a Lordship beats me, can only suppose that was to reinforce his comeing back, or maybe even a bribe to come back into politics, do t be supprised if sunak does resign and Cameron is offered the position as P.M again wether he would take it I'm not sure, but if he did he would not fair any better than sunak it would just mean swapping a helicopter for a luxurious jet paid for the taxpayer's...nothing more...

That's because the Tory party you knew and respected...died at the end of the Major Government. I am a lifelong Labour supporter, but I knew the Tories generally speaking, had the interests of the country at heart I just disagreed with their social policies. However, I believe, after the Major Government downfall, the Tory Party looked to the Republicans in the USA and learned something: Actual Governing was Boring and pointless! All that mattered was personal Enrichment! And so...the Tories copied the Repugs and became the Party of Looters. After all, the socialists would be left to clean up the mess and take the blame! The Tory Party You thought you supported, died around that time I'm afraid. Simply look at the way they have treated the Middle Class and Homeowners....Can your son and daughter afford to buy a home in Your village?
