Jason Hunnicutt is one of the owners of 1904 Music Hall in Jacksonville, FL. 1904 Music Hall is a 300-400 capacity venue that features shows in all genres. This clip comes from my interview with Jason, which is podcast episode #030. Here Jason discusses the risks that come with opening a venue, but also the excitement with opening a venue. I'm the host of the Making It with Chris G. podcast, where I have conversations with the leaders in the world of entertainment, sharing their stories and insight to help you get one step closer to making it. My background comes from the live music side, having worked as a Talent Buyer for Live Nation, and promoted shows with AEG Live during my time as Talent Buyer at the Plaza Live. It all started with a charity event called Rock for Hunger in 2006. As of today, I’ve booked and promoted over 2,500 shows and counting. Since 2012, I've been working as an artist manager, college professor, guest lecturer, and podcaster.
My career as a Music Business professor started at Full Sail University in 2015. In 2017, I moved to South Florida to teach at Florida International University, and guest lecture across the country. I started the podcast and the blog to create the resources that I wish existed when I started my journey in the music business, and to help YOU, musicians, and students to navigate through this industry. Keep in touch, and let us know what kind of content you need to help you get one step closer to MAKING IT.

Hey Chris! How funny that I stumbled on this video doing research on starting your own business, specifically in the music industry. I used to be your student back in 2018 at FIU! Hope all is well - cheers! Camila

I’m interested in opening a venue and I’m starting from scratch. A big part is the sound setup. Knowing what I need to fill the space. I would love to chat and get pointed in the right direction.

Buddy has a private venue on his property. Fully set up for bands etc. He’s hosted local bands for years. We’ve been contacted by a promoter to use his venue. We need to make money obviously but also do it legally. Need any advice you can share

There is actually a really cool venue in Orlando that someone built inside his house. It's called Timucua (link below). Lots of questions - Is it actually set-up to be a music venue or does he host artists in a space he normally uses for his family, but can host artists there? Does he staff it with people who are paid to work shows? It's not uncommon for people to host house concerts, but if it's an actual venue that might change things a little bit pending on city/state laws. Also, does your buddy sell any food or drinks? timucua.com/
