Bro Im glad you used some safty equipment, however that rope may have let you down in a emergency, next time get a climbing rope. Also let's say you slipped, how would you get down, with no way to rappel or get help, say your cellphone fell to the ground, what would you do, hang there till your parents get back? You could have at least called your uncle. Don't be silly bro, you are smarter than that, this could have been your last video. Now about my lawnmower, when do I win it?

Cole, invest in an actual climbing rope designed to absorb the shock of a fall. They also sell ascenders if you actually want to be able to climb back onto the roof instead of becoming an agricultural decorative ornament.

Whe. I hunt I always tie off while in any tree. I create multiple loops as well so I'm not stuck hanging there and can climb back up. I've heard of people getting stuck and not being able to pull themselves back up. Especially it the fall and are head down. I bought the best harness I could find and luckily I haven't had to use my loops

Being in the safety department at work I appreciate your attempt to be as safe as possible. But 4 more things will complete the process. 1 an actual safety rope, 2 a lanyard to slow the fall. 3 a tie off point that will hold 5000 lbs and above all a person to help or call for help if you need it. Hanging in that harness for 20 minutes can cut off the circulation to your legs. You are on the right track thinking about safety. Many farmers won't take the time.

I loved climbing and had zero fear of heights. We had a 75' leg that fed 8 grain bins and 2 dryers. I would scamper up and down and across like a monkey. Trees, walls, poles, you name it, I could climb it. The fact I am still here today is a combination of luck, chance and skill. Probably mostly luck.

True story, I used Flex Seal to fix the bag on my bagpipes after someone put badges in my pipe box and the pins poked holes all over the place, so I used it and it worked long enough till my new bag came in the mail. I contacted the company and they actually replied saying that was the weirdest use they’ve heard of yet 😂

When I was young, I would have done that and not thought twice about it. The word you were looking for during the height induced early on part was circumstances. If you have ever repelled or done a hang test of one of those harnesses, you would know to make the leg straps almost uncomfortably tight. They will save you but also rack the crap of you, and you would have been dangling getting racked till someone saw you and called a fire department to come out with a ladder truck to get you down! I wouldn't do it now but, I have to admit to doing things like that and worse without a harness so thanks for at least using that!

@tommychew6544
@tommychew6544 Жыл бұрын
@@davidcurtis5398 True, but that's better than what happens during an actual jerk from a fall. I preferred the type of harness that didn't use eyelets so you could adjust to just the right amount of pressure. I cleaned the insides of flour silos for 10 years when I was 25 years younger than I am now. Hanging from one of those is not fun if it isn't set right! 🍒

You know you are alive when you are up high. That bin has lots of things to hold onto. Get on top of a steel containment tank with a domed top and nothing but a short pipe with a flange on it coming out the center. Had to walk on an I-beam 110 feet above the floor and then step cross an 18 inch gap onto the tank to fit the in coming piping.

Everything safe, except no one there to help if you fall. Did I tell you about the time my Dad was home alone? Yeah, Mom was in the hospital and he was getting ready to go to see her. He had a stroke, couldn’t get to the phone, laid on the floor for 7 hours before he was found and rushed to the hospital. Doctor said they could have saved him if someone had been there to call for help. He died the next day. Now a fall might not be the same as a stroke, but rapid medical care in any situation makes a difference. Tiff, you have my permission to reprimand Cole severely.

Back about 40 yrs ago my grandpa tried to get my brother to help him take down a barn that had been on fire. My brother couldn't deal with heights. Here I am I'm just a yr or so younger than him. I get up there walking the beams and all that fun stuff, no harnesses or ropes. Usually had at least 1 hammer and a pry bar with me. BTW grandpa couldn't do heights either. Heights. I was never scared of them, either. One day many moons ago when I was but a wee lass of about ten or eleven, my sister, brother and I had what we thought was a great idea. Back by the corral, there was a really, REALLY, tall and long stack of square bales. Now, I don't know exactly how high the stack was, but it was a long way down from the top when you're four feet tall. Our grand idea, was to somehow rig a canvas tarp so that it worked like a net, and we'd take turns jumping off of the top, and...it worked. Well, it worked until it was my brother's turn and one corner of the tarp came untied from the hay rake we had attached it to and my brother broke his arm. Back then, we didn't do 'time outs', we got a whuppin', and since I was the oldest, I had to do my chores AND my brothers for months, and that's all I have to say about heights. Glad you didn't get hurt. Don't do that alone again, ya' hear?

Sometimes I would rest, lean back and look at the scenery. One day I was going down the tower and bingo. I forgot to attach my belt. I like to had a heart attack. As an old climber and in the construction business for 50 plus years, I agree with Steven Purcell’s comment. I have broken more of that cheap rope than you can imagine. Anything that requires any strength, I use climbing rope or accessory cord (not parachute cord). I have never broken a climbing rope or accessory cord. The cord comes in 6mm & 7mm prepackaged at most sporting goods stores, with the rated strength on it.

Thanks for using the safety harness definitely more safety precautions needed to be used I do question the product you used to seal up the joints hopefully it works or you’ll be back up there doing it again

Cole you’re just like me, we both need adult supervision at all times or we do dumb sh*t! The whole time I watched this I was thinking, “wtf would he do if he did fall and be hanging on the side and no one is there… he’s stuck until ma and pa come home.” You got it done though and that’s what counts! Good job! This Buds for you! 🍺

On your intake and exhaust pipes take the tees off and put 90 degree elbows facing down. That is what I have on my on demand hot water system. Same size pipe. Also keeps the weather out as well.

As a safety guy, just several things to consider. Your tie-off point should be able to handle the weight of a pickup truck. Your weight and velocity will amplify the force on your tie-off point. If you were to fall, you may survive hanging in the harness for only about 15 minutes because the groin straps are stopping the blood circulation in your legs. I don't know if you have a camera person or not, but you need someone on the job who can rescue you if you fall or at least get capable help to you very quickly. In safety you need to think far enough through the hazard that if you get into a situation, you have a viable plan to get out. Be safe out there.
