初挑戦の動画版『BUILT BY BLUE LUG 』
僕たちが毎日こんな風に一台一台丁寧に組み立てしてるのを知って欲しくて動画にしました。
ただ黙々と自転車を組み立てる動画ですが、ずっと見てられるんじゃないかな。BGMの合間に聞こえる工具の音とかも聴いてほしい。

カルフォルニア州サンフランシスコ郊外に工房を構えるRIVENDELL BICYCLE WORKS / リヴェンデル・バイシクル・ワークスが作るツーリングフレーム"JOE APPALOOSE/ジョー・アパルーサ"。
その名前は、アメリカ原産の馬の品種＜アパルーサ種＞に由来し、気高く優美な姿でアクティブかつタフなこのバイクの性格をそのまま表現しています。
Rivendellの中でのポジションは、Sam Hillborne（サムヒルボーン）、Hunqapillar（ハンカピラー）の要素をそれぞれ受け継ぎ、ちょうどその間を埋めるような立ち位置の、いわゆるロードツーリングバイクと言えます。実際、フォークのパイプの厚さやタイヤのクリアランスをとってもこのバイクが二台の中間にあることがわかります。
コミュート（通勤）や日々の買い物や休日のお出かけ、はたまた荒野を旅することもできるオールラウンドなバイク。チェーンステーが長く、広めのホイールベース（前後ホイール間）はフレフラせず安定性が高く、ゆるめのシートチューブ角も快適な乗り心地。ハンドリングも軽快。先が細めでカーブしたフォークも路上の凸凹をエレガントな佇まいでいなしてくれます。荷物を積んだり、ラフな道を下った際にもRivendellのタフで安定感のある走りの系譜を感じてもらえるはずです。
タイヤは黎明期のMTBについていたようなものよりも太い50mm（約2インチ）のものをフェンダーとともに履くことができ、フェンダーなしだと最大55mmまで。各所にダボ穴を装備し、荷物を積むためのラック・キャリアなどを搭載可能。乗る者のオーダーにスマートかつ、従順に応えてくれる。
もちろんRivの伝統を受け継ぐフレーム・フォーククラウンのラグデザイン。マーケット、決められたジャンル、ましてやスピードメーターに囚われることなく、永く乗り続けることができる思想は他のフレームと同様。
ちなみに、フレームデカールの手書き風「Joe」は、Rivendellのボス Grantさんの娘さんの書いたものだそう。

Between the craftsmanship of this gentleman and the videographey team along with my love for bicycles makes this one of the best bike builds I've seen in awhile. Only bike build I've actually watched twice.

That bottom bracket treatment and preparation alone deserve thumbs up. The whole video is just so good. This is by far the best bike build video that I have ever seen. Thank you for making such beautiful bikes and videos. God bless.

I’m almost done with my latest build and I’m bummed it’s coming to an end. I still remember my first build back in the early 90s. It was so difficult without videos and online forums, but I did it. Now I can put one together in my sleep. It’s definitely the most relaxing thing I do these days.

Better than ASMR! I love the “sound effects” of all the parts being assembled and adjusted. Plus, just watching the dexterity of his hands as he worked so methodically and precisely. Wonderfully relaxing.

It's not "a second-hand Japanese bike." As it says in the description, it's a brand-new Rivendell Joe Appaloosa. They're a Californian company who specialise in beautiful bikes that resist the modern day, bike industry marketing-led crap. Look them up. Blue Lug loves Rivendell and Rivendell loves Blue Lug. Grant Petersen - the founder of Rivendell - says Blue Lug is "the best bike shop in the world". This build shows why.

Built BIKE carefully and take good care of it, you can use it for a long time, so even if it is a little expensive, it is worth it.

So, I almost passed this one up because I'm not interested in this style of bike. I'm glad I decided to check it out though because the craftsmanship of this craftsman was incredible. Between the craftsmanship of the Craftsman and the video and sound work of the videographer, this was another great production. Thank you
