Same, They even made Betty say "I Know it's impossible, but... I wish that we could stay in Riverdale forever with all of our friends, as we were". And Jughead says " No it's not". I'm just going to say that for me Riverdale ended after Betty said "as we were", and start the whole show all over again like it was one big continuous loop. And maybe watch the whole season 7 episode 20.

Exactly. Honestly I’ve had a love hate relationship with Riverdale but after seeing the finale I finally got it. It’s almost like the original characters were navigating the modern world with our modern problems and the “darkness” theme that was overused lol and were learning how to get back to the original comics. I saw it with reintroducing past big bads in season 7and how the characters finally cut them off 👏🏼 for 👏🏼 good 👏🏼 but it healthier ways than in seasons 1-6. Then finally going into the hereafter, it’s like they are in the comic realm where all the stories we grew up with are existing all at once. In essence the tv show was a precursor to the happy campy Archie comics

It was definitely a blow that they basically went their separate ways after school and pretty much never talked again despite how strongly they seem connected, but... That's just how life is for most people. Most of the best friends I grew up with joined the military or moved away. Some have moved back since then, but we still rarely talk. It's EXACTLY as Jughead says. You say hello to someone, walk alongside them for awhile, and then you say goodbye. And you have to remember, they had to grow up BEFORE the ease of the internet to keep in contact. It's much easier to keep in contact in this day and age, but back then? While it's a hard and TRUE life lesson, they also wanted to pay homage to Archie Comics... Which is why they returned as Juniors in the sweet hereafter so that they could have adventures together for all eternity - just like the COMICS.

@@DatabaseAdministrator my problem is that they remember their old lives as though they happened to other people instead of gaining back a missing piece of themselves, I'd have preferred it if they were their old selves again, even if they had to live out their lives in the past. The fact they remain the 50s reboot versions we followed during this season makes it easier to accept they went their separate ways.

Betty even told Archie to ask her again after surviving the comet, I thought their 50s relationship was them subconsciously remembering, but it seems like their old selves are gone and they remember the previous 6 seasons as though they happened to different people, rather than getting their full personalities back.

this is a good way to describe it, yeah. tabs already said that there's no other way to return to the present and she didn't mention it's because they're dead and also iirc the comet couldn't be prevented either way in any other universe so her giving them a chance to relive their childhood lives in a different era was a good closure for all of them. i just hated the fact that the writers had to completely change archie's character as a whole and send him off to california and get with someone else, like both betty and archie knew that they were engaged in their previous life but they knew of each other's dreams and didn't want that to be crushed so they let each other go their own ways, betty not marrying anyone cuz she knew she won't marry archie presumably also kinda reflects on her choice but mainly her empowerment because that's what she fought for which is nice to see!

The first two seasons of the show were awesome , but the storylines got way out of hand. Ending the show in 1950’s is a little bit unnecessary. The final season should’ve went back to normal timeline halfway through the final season.

It’s incredibly jarring to watch a show that started in current times only to end in the 50s that’s not even the same show at that point. The whole super hero thing was just a mess too but one thing I can say is that at lessst it was consistent with their timeline. Whoever wrote this show needs to stop writing all together

I stopped watching Riverdale almost entirely after the whole “Rivervale “ plot line that led up to the 100th episode . I only started watching the show again because it was the final season and I wanted to see how it was going to end.

@@karleighrock593 do any of the og ships stay together? I heard they did some weird thing at the end where the core four like become one or some weird thing. Kinda like what they did in the 100 and in lost. I read there was only one of ship that actually stays together.

I like this ending for the show. Although I do think instead of the final season being set in the 50’s , Tabitha should have reset the time line where they go all the way back to season one and try to recorrect all the mistakes and to prevent the future comet .

The season pretty much brought all 4 of them together in ways which we didn’t see in the original timeline. There is a reason why most of the characters chose to remember the good memories instead of the bad ones. Barchie and Bughead were from one timeline. This 50s timeline was more focused on the four of them being more together and United in the face of social and political issues and most importantly just living their best lives Even Cheryl’s character was more likeable and this season brought of the best of her.
