This reminds me of my younger days when as a young soldier and I was in a drunken stupor I tried to impress the younger ladies. When I retired as an older soldier I tried to impress the folks at the geriatric center with my skill as a Riverdancer. I failed miserably.

I was very fortunate to see Riverdance in 1997 and it was one of the most mind blowing, spiritual and energetic performances I've ever seen. Being of Celtic heritage brought me goosebumps indeed. Very powerful!! and we'll never see anything like this ever again!

+Christine Lawrence Hi Christine - I know what you mean. But, the Irish are very creative people. We may still have great things to look forward to. They might have said the same thing about the great Irish Tenor, John McCormack. But, we now have Van Morrison, Celtic Woman, Celtic Thunder, U2, and Glen Hansard. May the wind always blow at your back, Ted

Lovelies, let him be as bloody 'egotistical' as he likes!! And back then (the early 2000's), Flatley was THE ONE. Lord of the Dance, indeed. He's retired now, a gentleman land-owner, chubbier, older... incredibly wealthy, (maybe bad ankles??) watching the next generation of Irish dancers come to the fore, and grow. But in that time... he changed something, forever. And, whether you were Irish or not - all our hearts beat a little faster when he'd take the stage. And for that? He should be proud, very proud...

One senior guy friend who had never been interested in "artsy" things, mostly loves sports, saw the Riverdance video when it was new at a relative's house and cried his eyes out. He bought his own copy and started buying more as gifts for his other non-artsy buddies who all got hooked. I have never seen anything like this. You are so right, this changed culture in a huge way. Step dancing is a popular activity even among kids and adults with no Irish kin.
