Rivers Monorail Port Harcourt - First in Africa!

Intamin Transportation Ltd. has signed an agreement with Rivers Monorail Company Ltd to deliver a Monorail System for the city of Port Harcourt. Port Harcourt and its metropolitan area counts actually 3.7 Mio citizens and is characterised by oil production and its associated industries. The rapidly increasing traffic in the city regularly leads to congested roads. Therefore city-planners were looking for a fast implementation of an efficient mass transit system.
Rivers Monorail will be using Intamin’s monorail train type P30, an electric driven train especially designed and most suitable for public transport services in cities.
The train is characterized by an innovative design, spacious cabins and is equipped with large size door openings for easy access for passengers with luggage. The modern design of the trains combined with a seamless appearance of the track system integrates the system excellently into the environment.
The system covers approx. twenty kilometres within the city of Port Harcourt, serving 14 stations between Aggrey Rd. and the loop North/East of the Garrison station.
The train guiding system combined with a sophisticated automatic train protection and guiding solution, allows for optimisation of line performance while improving the safety of operation with trains at a speed of up to 80km/h. The train operation is monitored by staff in the Operation Control Centre.
The monorail project is part of the city’s and River State infrastructural investments to improve the traffic situation.
With over four decades of experience Intamin provides Monorail Systems for public transportation which are in compliance or even exceed the highest standards and safety regulations demanded by public transportation.

one thing we all should bear in mind is that development does not just happen in one day, there has to be a start no matter how small. I don't care who is in charge and who is not. one of the biggest issues aside corruption and terrorism that Nigeria is facing is lack of consistency. our kind of politics or will I say government does not and never aligns with the former. I believe if anyone that comes into power can continue from where the former stopped, Nigeria will go a long way. youths of my lovely nation, we need to address this issue.

I came back here to watch this video just to compare with the Lagos Metro and I was wondering why this project failed. Was it lack of patronage? Lack of strategic implementation? Was it built on loan? Lack of maintenance? Or change of government? The most feasible possiblity is definitely change of government and I wonder why our politicians do such. But then I realize that Nigerians don't mind vandalizing public infrastructure in as much as it wasn't put in place by their favourite party or politician.

Maintaining what?. I just came back from Port Harcourt, this is a photo shot from another monorail elsewhere. The whole place is rotten and stinky. There is no monorails, just pillars upon pillars lined up on the road to no-where.

God bless River State Government and Policy Makers for taking to heart the suffering of its people and achieve this - Well Done! Having said this - this should have been constructed all over the Nigeria (North, West, East and South) more than 40 years ago but greed and wickedness of man hardened our Leaders Hearts to the suffering of their people and prevented this from happening - God is aware! Again, I say well done, River State Government for up-grading Port Harcourt and bringing joy to the people.

Is this project already operational? OR completed, operational but still in the testing phase? Because from the video it looks real and not computer generated, but then aspects of it cast ambiguity, like the "white people" still photo and the fact that it didn't show what would be the usual indicators of public usage (like adequate people count). But more importantly, it doesn't seem as if there was any hoopla about it. (Apparently am not in the country)

Hi, I live in Hiroshima, a city in Japan, and there are same transportation in our city called ASTRAMLINE. I have thought African countries, including Nigeria, are still in poverty. However, after watching this movie, I found the successful development in Nigeria. I hope Nigeria continues economic growth and lead Africa's development. Let reason well b4 altering comments; firstly you guys should have ask does this in any form provide any relief to the transportation problem in Port Harcourt @ all? how many distance does it cover? the stress of boarding the monorail? the dense populated area in the city were over looked. In fact, this is a waste of money and time. What wrong with Aba road express? Mile 1 to Rumuokoro, Eleme Junction to Rumuokuta axis? and many other areas that deserves more attention. Government think twice.

Over 12,000 of these knife offences took place on the streets of London and this is not an exaggeration please check the figures for yourselves. Four teenagers were stabbed to death with a knife in this town on New Year's Eve alone, and 22 people were killed in March 2018, so London is deadlier than New York, Nigeria and other Countries that have been misrepresented in the press and other media networks for decades. 98% of these killings are not robbery related, it is just pure envy, hatred and misguided perceptions of what they think a modern society is all about. Britain is meant to be a country full of educated and civilized people, how ironic. A BRIGHT AND PROMISING YOUNG NIGERIA WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN EAST LONDON IN MARCH 2018, HIS FATHER IS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN NIGERIA AND PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT THE YOUNG MAN WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFE OVER HERE IN LONDON BUT HE WAS THE 12TH PERSON TO BE KILLED IN JUST MARCH 2018 YET THE WESTERN MEDIA WOULD COMMISSION DOCUMENTARIES PRESENTED BY KNOWN CELEBRITIES TO DEMONIZE NIGERIA AND OTHER AFRICAN AND NON WESTERN COUNTRIES. THIS ACTION IS NOT DESIGNED TO HELP THESE COUNTRIES RATHER ITS TO FURTHER SLOW THEM DOWN AND THEY WOULD NEVER TELL YOU ABOUT THE ROT IN THEIR OWN HOME COUNTRIES LIKE BRITAIN. in just one night alone on 20th February 2018, six people were stabbed in London and in one particular week in March 2018 eight people were killed. 454 acid attacks were reported in London in 2016 and in one night in July 2017 one person poured acid in the faces of 5 different people within 15 to 20 minutes of each crime. The suspect did not even know is victims neither did is victims know each other. My brothers and sisters, parents, friends and country men, where do i start or where should i finish If 5% of these wicked offences occurred in Jamaica, Nigeria or anywhere in Africa, Britain would have imposed a travel ban restricting its citizens from visiting those areas. Yet people swim across the mediterranean to come to London. if you are not born in the UK or if you have no residency papers please stay in your beautiful towns until fortune shines on you because it certainly will shine on you. There are large proportions of your countries that are 200 times better than the UK but their media would always tell you that your country is bad and others would call it a shit hole town, what a joke. Please open your eyes and see the truth for yourselves.

ChopChoice toubliterslly have no idea what you’re talking about it is cheaper when going a simple straight route which if you don’t know Nigeria isn’t a straight line the cost comes in the curves as the rails need to switch so it is more expensive in the long run it doesn’t carry as many people as a subway or monorail. It is way slower. In addition there is literally no country using it for mass transportation so again it’s a nice decoration

HOW COME IT WASN'T DESIGNED FOR TWO WAY SIMULTANEOUS TRAFFIC? ??????? PEOPLE WHO JUST MISS THEIR RIDE WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE RAIL CAR TO COME ALL OF THE WAY BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED THEN WAIT FOR IT TO RETURN IN ORDER TO GO IN THE DESIRED DIRECTION.

Tabs T Yeah! They were not smart enough to realize that they just got ripped off big time. If I was there and in charge, I would have never let that plan go forward. If one miss his ride by a few seconds then he will arrive at work an hour later or more. Lol! They may as well build one way streets lol!

10 trains! And how they suppose to run? I don't get the picture. If it could not run in two ways then just only one train can run at a time. This is what I understand now. I can't see more than one train run on that single track way.

Nice but build more jeez..... Also Even these nice places in no time will still become yamayama...imagine taking a disgusting feet full of them disgusting orange sand sand..walk into nice looking banks, train stations, your newly built house...or talk about the drainage system on newly built roads... Corrosiveness of rain water will destroy the road if the drainage system aint good...roads should not be fully flat...should slightly slope so water goes down the drain... Muds everywhere... No concrete walk path..
