Riverview Park in Des Moines would grow to become the best-known entertainment oasis in early Iowa history. Creating priceless vintage recollections spanning the park's 63-year existence. The park officially closed forever after the end of the 1978 season. Riverview closed that Labor Day and no one realized at the time that this amusement park had just seen its last day of operation. To the surprise and sadness of many Riverview would never open again, but the memories of a wonderful era, great times and friends of our childhood can always be called upon.
1979 - Adventureland purchases Riverview Park with the stated intent to the owners of keeping it open as a "company picnic" facility and discount amusement facility. Once papers are signed, Adventureland locks the gates and closes the park.

This was GREAT 👍 to watch. As a child in the late 1960s, 1970s - this was the BEST place for a 🎡 carnival, 🎢 roller coaster, 🎠 carousel, bumper cars, the Haunted House dark ride! So MUCH FUN 🤩 and like everything, it is now gone.

i remember very well. the painted picture thing was awesome. My Stepdad worked at Highland Potato Chips, and every summer he'd come home with a handful of ride tickets and other stuff. in '65 I would have been 9

I sure dont remember Des Moines River View Park being that big or having all of those rides. I went there in 1960 from Ottumwa. Then moved close by in 1966. Been there few times and took children. Maybe much of the video was over the years and decades before 60's. Great place. To bad they had to tear it all down in name of progress. 🎢🎪🍿🌭❣
