Could you tell me, when did Joeys abandon the old war cry and adopt "Walk on"?
@vhuassie6 жыл бұрын
Never did. Walk On is still sung at the start and maybe during the game. When Joeys win a major game in rugby or any other sport they sing a Latin prayer called "Sub Tuum" which is a cornerstone of the Marist tradition. It has been used as a collective song of success and gives thanks to "Our Lady" for her continue protection over the school. Started in 1981 in the Joeys centenary year when the school first learned it and is sung still at the end of every Mass. Gets ingrained into the collective soul of the school and all students who attened Joeys from 1981 on-wards know it backwards.

@@vhuassie I'm so sorry I never saw your reply to my question. I have, in the interim, discovered "Sub Tuum" and I think it is fantastic. I can well imagine the galvanising effect it has on the boys. I have also heard the old "hockaticky hockaticky wish wham wop" incorporated into a great song by the boys. For me, that old war cry is Joeys so, to hear it again and against Riverview.....well it made this old coot tear up. I will be at Hunters Hill next weekend, for the first time in 50 years (exactly) to see Joeys take on Scots for the Premiership. How good will that be!? I'll be the old fart in the wheelchair.
