Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

I feel like Stephen wasn't really into Riz, he just repeated standard script while Riz was trying to be as friendly as he could. When Riz said "Well you should have done your research", Stephen really should have because Riz has been in the industry for a long time and some top rated films as well.

Yes this is exactly what I observed about Britain, they don't seem to make distinctions about race and don't self-segregate themselves by referring to themselves as "Pakistani-British" or "Nigerian-British". When I see non-white British on TV, I automatically see them simply as British without distinguishing themselves of their race or country of origin. Whereas Americans tend to make clear distinctions of themselves by constantly referring to themselves as "Asian-Americans" and "African-Americans". I get the feeling of clear cultural and racial divide amongst Americans.
@Germania9
@Germania9 7 жыл бұрын
They even intermingle and intermarry with one another. There are a lot of known examples of mixed-race marriages between Brits of different colors, be it former spouses Dawn French & Lenny Henry, or Charlie Brooker & Konnie Huq. Of course, that doesn't mean prejudices don't exist, as evidence by the white pro-Brexitters there, from Boris Johnson onwards.

@@IronResistance growing in London for me. Asian usually refers to South Asian and to an extent West Asians (Leventine Arabs, Gulf Arabs, Iranians, Turks, etc). People of thr far east were usually called Oriental in my area. Even on Google if I write British Asian boxer for example Naseem Hamed (Yemeni) and Amir Khan (Pakistani) would be the top answers. So thats what Asian means to me growing up.
@Jonathanwebb100
@Jonathanwebb100 4 жыл бұрын
To be honest most of this comes from ignorance in the US. We categorize most ideas of culture based on the food that got popular in the US first. To my aging father Asian means Chinese, all middle easterners are Indian which also confuses him because he sometimes still calls Native Americans Indians. So growing up in the 50s didn't help his world geography. Also it's starting to get a little better in some areas, but most Americans call people Middle Easterners or Asian and don't have much idea of what separates them.

I've never understood why Americans have the whole African-American thing. As a Brit, if you have a British passport you're a Brit. That's it. Britain isn't white, it's a multicultural nation(s). Labeling someone British-Pakistani just seems like another unnecessary division to me.

I feel the same !!! I also told some of the racists this !Some of you guys are stupid , when you are born and raised in a country plus have a citizenship how can you not connect with a country like the uk , how can you not consider yourself british? How can you not feel you are ,British when you call uk your home , you guys are cruel ! Americans from many ethnic origins consider themselves Americans , same as Australians , why are you making a big racist idea over him identifying himself as British ? He was born ana raised in the U.K. , he calls the uk home ,he has a British accent more then most English people , he has uk citizenship , but based on his colour or ethnic origin he can't be British ? He is what he feels ! This is one of the reasons some Muslims never integrate to the west because westerners will always remind them about their ancestry origin and always put them down about it , they will never ever let them feel feel proud to be a westerner Australian:American/British ! Shame on you people ! He is British ! However Anglo Saxon is an ethnicity !! He can still be British , his origin is not Anglo Saxon but he is now born and raised in the U.K. Which means he became a British man

Do you have many peers in your life that look Muslim? I've heard many stories from personal family friends saying how their family gets stopped at the airport (males because they have a beard and females because they wear a hijab). My Muslim Arab friend has told me how she's always being stopped at the airport because her mom wears a hijab. My teacher, who is Italian with green eyes and doesn't look Arab at all, has been stopped at the airport because her husband looks middle eastern. Another teacher of mine has a friend named "Dwayne" who looks middle eastern and isn't but still gets stopped because of the way he looks. Believe it or not, many people who look Muslim or have Muslim names get randomly selected...practically every time they're heading onto a flight. Even in the land of the free, unfortunately.

+Jake Deane Do you really think the British advanced India and respected Indians? The British were the white saviours? Is this because this is what history books in Britain teach children about Imperialism and colonialism ? or just your point of view ? Indians view it as an occupation which ruined India to enrich Britain .Lots of Indians were tortured and killed. Indians were constantly told that they had to obey their white masters who were ofcourse , saving and advancing them . Do speak to people from the subcontinent or Africa who were under British rule and ask them how the British 'saved ' them.

+Jake Deane, The British and other Western Imperialists were inherently incapable of helping others. I come from a family of high ranking noblemen, close friends with the richest man in the world, and even we were disrespected by the lowly Brits. The Western Imperialists only got that land through deception and massacre. You would see their signs, in OUR lands, saying "No Dogs or Indians allowed"...The filthy Imperialists. Western Imperialism was and is worse than all other imperialism. Comparing it to the great Islamic conquests in apples and oranges. Anywhere the Muslims touched, we turned into Gold. We went to Egypt, and built the first Hospital there. We went to Persia, and built Bayt al Hikma. We went to Morocco, and our women built the first university. We Muslims naturally had the Golden touch. On the other hand, look at western Imperialists. Ravaging everywhere they went, Dividing the people, causing wars and destruction in pursuit of money. All of the world's problems today are the direct results of Western Imperialism. The Western Imperialists turned anywhere they touched into filth. Western Imperialists were inherently Incapable of helping others.

Can I just say. I'm a Londoner and I'm also Bangladeshi which is next to Pakistan. There are a lot of people like us who were born in London. We are often called Asian. One thing Mr Riz forgot to mention. In London we are so diversed and friendly towards each other. Rascim and discrimination is rare. And we accept every faith and religion. In the rare occasion someone hates on a muslim, gay or women. You will always see someone who will stick up for you because we don't have any place for that kind of hate in London. Unlike America where there is a significant amount who hate Muslims Gays Blacks and still at the stage of discriminating Women. Hopefully the younger generation can see past that.

Just a gentle reminder to those saying he is not British, he's 'misappropriating English culture', etc, where the fuck do you think tea comes from? Certainly not the UK. Ponder on that for a while, dear degenerates. Did it cross your mind that whatever 'Britain' is it is a culture, a history, a society formed on colonialism, in the influence of foreign people and cultures. That's what makes Britain Britain. Do you think that we would ever have become the greatest country on Earth (not now, LOL, I'm talking in the 18th/18th cent) if we hadn't sailed the seas and opened our doors? Now I'm not saying I'm proud of our colonialism, but that's the point. Do you really have the audacity to resent the presence of non-whites in our country when our success literally lies on the back of invading and stealing from other countries? And the later immigration of Europeans and Asians, you actually resent that? Do you resent people coming over here, you wish you were over there stealing from them while closing our doors to them?

Natalie Di Why is every other country allowed an indigenous culture and identity but we aren't ?
@vigneshvattigunta9407

Trajan Its because the culture that you celebrate takes a lot from other cultures. English culture is a mix of ideas from its colonial settlements. Real English culture would be Anglo Saxon and Britons.

TheOneIndian What do you think I'm talking about when say indigenous culture ? I'm talking about the culture of the union that has stood 300 years and the component countries that have stood for over a thousand. Culture and customs and traditions that are very real, and very unique to our island. Why aren't we allowed to celebrate it and hold it up as paramount when literally every other country in the world is allowed to do the same? Complete post-modernist nonsense. I'm not talking about joe really care about a lot of the stuff that has entered the country in the last half century - curry etc. It's great but it's not indigenous. British culture. I'm talking the traditions and institutions that date back to the founding of our nation, that despite invasions and wars still stand,
