A request from a farmer's son #To all the protesters of jallikattu, By doing jallikattu only can't save all the native breed cows.All the native breeds produce A2 milk. In my home we use bull for transportation and farm purposes and cow for breeding and milk. Only if we save agriculture we can able to save cows. How many of u know the real reason behind every farmers suicide? Cauvery water , mansoon are reasons used by media to cover the root cause. The real reason is debt. Until now government alone fix the Minimum Support Price(MSP). MSP is the rate at which the government buys the grain from farmers. Now the MSP for paddy is Rs.1450 per quintal(100 kgs). MSP is declared for all states, irrespective of the varying labour and input costs in each region.Their price never met input cost we spend in our land. All the political parties and media hiding the fact about MSP. U can check it on google about MSP. In the last 45 years, between 1970 and 2015, the basic salary plus DA ofa government employee has been raised by an average of 120 to 150 times, that of professors/lecturers by 150 to 170 times whereas the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat and paddy has been raised by only 19 times in the same period,” says Devinder Sharma, a food and trade policy analyst. Here is the speech text in English. I believe what he is saying is something everyone in India should listen to, hence this effort on my part. The Ordinance has been accepted… the Central Government has accepted the Ordinance. This happened just now while I was coming here. Tomorrow morning, when the President okays the Ordinance, the Vaadi Vaasal (entrance gate for bull in Jallikattu) will definitely open on Sunday or Monday! We have the belief that from now on, the Vaadi Vasal will open year after year, but for now, all we know is that the Ordinance will pass. This Ordinance has passed not because of the 39 MPs we elected, and sent to Delhi, but because of you people who are here! We have heard of revolution in places like Egypt, but for the first time, a revolution has happened in India since Independence! We have heard that Gandhiji had got us Freedom, but that was 60 years ago, none of us have seen it… see Freedom here today! You people are providing each other food, cleaning the roads… girls here are sitting on our laps… none of us considering any of this incorrect or wrong. If my sister or my daughter sits on my lap, I will not think wrong of it. This is not an issue of South India vs. North India… we are talking on behalf of the whole of India. They have raped a girl in Delhi… what a shameful act this is… none of us protested or questioned it… let us protest against such incidents from now on! This protest is not about just the Jallikattu issue… we all know there are many other issues- multinationals like Pepsi, Coke, the Sri Lanka problem, farmers’ problems, fishermen’s issues, corruption in colleges… so many politicians have colleges… have we protested on the roads for any of these? Earlier, we were scared… we used to cover our faces in kerchiefs while protesting… but now we will protest without fear! Our movement here does not rely on actors, politicians, and doesn’t care if you’re a big shot or a common man. Last year during the floods, when they needed help, the house owner, his domestic help, and his driver… everybody extended their hands to get food from the same relief workers! Even today, all of us here are one and the same… we are students! No longer will this movement see people with cheap intentions… nobody will come here just to talk a few words, get on TV and get publicity, and to show off that they’re also students. I am not used to talking so seriously… I used to just crack a few jokes on stage and go… I was like that earlier. Last year, the work that we all did during the floods was an example to the world… we protested when channels like NDTV and CNN-IBN did not cover the floods… today, our issue here is on the headlines of American newspapers! Who lead us here today? No one! So many years we have waited for a leader who will inspire us… no one has come. Why was the voter turnout so low in the elections? If so many of us could volunteer during the floods, why did only 57% of us turn up to vote? Who is there to vote for? Who has inspired us? If we don’t like one party we can vote for another… but if we don’t like any party who can we vote for? We did not like to vote at all! But now, we will vote! You people here… contest elections… we will vote for you! We keep demanding a permanent solution for Jallikattu… we keep demanding amendments… there is no need to demand from these politicians… you guys rise to their ranks… and you bring a permanent solution! I have been to Coimbatore, to Kangeyam, and twice to Marina beach here… all you people are leaders! People have been sitting here for four days continuously! We don’t have to get a permanent solution by begging or threatening anyone… you people here… any number of you stand for the next elections! People will say that these Tamilians are barbarians… 2000 years ago they used to tackle bulls… why do they want to do it now? This movement is not about tackling bulls! Has India seen anything like this movement in Her past 50-60 years? Earlier, if there is an accident on the road, we would just ignore it and move on… some sister selling flowers, some brother working nearby or some auto driver around would rush to help… we would not have time to help… we would have to go to work… because we were scared… if we broke the rules… we were scared the school teacher or other higher authorities will shout at us. All the political leaders are big shots… we were scared to stand up against them… their vehicles would have a party photo… or a big leader’s photo… how could we talk against them? These people will sound horns, and jump signals on the road, and we would be too scared to ask questions… but today, you politicians better be scared of us! Tomorrow, if you create a problem, students will come and ask questions! Earlier, if students go to protest, their parents would hold them back because of safety concerns… today, these parents are also participating in this protest! Whether you are an old grandmother or a small child, raise your voice from now on! You can and should come on to the roads! This is not the crowd coming together for a movie release or for showing off on Facebook. One final thing… please don’t think that politicians will make some false promises, and make the people here disperse and shatter our unity. Even if the Vaadi Vaasal opens, we will come to the streets 15000 or 20000 times for all problems! We may think that for four days we have to stop going to offices and schools… what will the authorities say? But this is beyond schools and offices! If we come to the roads, if we demand for our rights, the laws will change! They will create laws for us! Someone from Kerala told me… this is not just a movement for Jallikattu… the whole of India is now noticing us. Hereafter, if there is a problem in Maharashtra, they too will definitely come on to the roads! They don’t have to accept Jallikattu, but they will definitely be inspired by this movement here. This movement here is the Spirit of India… this is the reason why we got Freedom! Throughout this movement, there has been no untoward incident in the whole of Tamil Nadu. Yes, yesterday, the political parties blocked the trains… how many protests they did in the past… how many lives they have affected… the police had to lathi charge the political party members in T. Nagar… look at us here… have we created any ruckus like you political parties have? Nobody has troubled anyone here… so many girls and ladies… look these ladies are resting on my lap here… nobody sees this as wrong… because this is not wrong at all! One final thing… what we have started today for Jallikattu should not end with just Jallikattu. Even if Jallikattu happens continuously for the next hundred or thousand years, this movement is not for preserving our historical culture… it is for our future! If we students, youngsters, mothers and fathers come on to the streets, the Govt. is forced to go to Delhi! People who said no to our demands are now approving the same demands. If we demand, we will get what we want… so far we have not raised our voices out of fear. Tomorrow, if a big politician with a Tata Sumo, displaying a party flag, jumps a signal, go stop him! Don’t think that problems occur somewhere and somewhere hundred people have to get together to demand… you people get together and demand… you people here are the leaders! You don’t require actors or politicians… you have to do everything by yourself! Today, I am proud that I am one amongst you… I will repeat what I have told here today to as many media outlets in the world as I can. I will tell all this bravely… we will protest! Even if the Vaadi Vaasal opens, this should not end. Next in April, when school admissions begin, they will ask money, donations… they will not listen to the Government. We will protest! People who run schools and colleges must answer! Why, will such things happen only in movies like Gentleman or Ramana? It will happen in the real world too! If they demand excess money for education, let us come to the streets in April! Let us come to the streets for all problems… the politicians must fear us! We have been scared for long enough now. We were scared that if we go alone we would get beaten up. Look around at the number of policemen here! They are protecting us now. Earlier, we would be scared if we encountered a police while going home late in the night after watching a movie. Today, the police have joined hands with us! There is only one reason for all this… we have been setting an example to the whole world through our protests. We are protesting with so much discipline, without a leader, with each person acting as a leader… such a protest has not happened anywhere in the world in the past 50 years… it has not happened even in India! Many people said that we are not protesting, we are taking photos, we are taking selfies and playing on mobiles… to them, we say: we don’t find protesting difficult… it is fun for us! With happiness, we are protesting for our rights! This is not a protest… this is a celebration, a festival, for the youth! No matter how many times we protest, we need this same unity, we need to come to this same place and protest. Marina beach is not the place where the Republic Day parade happens… it is the place for us to come together and protest! Henceforth, Marina beach will not be remembered as the world’s second largest beach… it will be remembered as the world’s first beach! (Addresses someone in the crowd) You cannot see this anywhere else… put up your light and display it! (People are cheering at something not in camera focus). The same people who switched off the power here are on our side now. This is not a protest between the people and the Government… the Government is on our side today! Proclaim that you are a Tamilian! Stand up with your head held high!
