i think they stylized it as “grl gvng” so the word “gang” wasn’t in the song title (i’m sure fans wouldn’t mind but maybe there’s another reason they didn’t take that route.) it could also just be they want us to interpret it in our own way, and i initially thought it was “girl giving” as well. this pre-single is actually perfect and i crabbed about the short mv for half a second b4 i remembered they’re about to have their first non-single release since debut. everyone knows they’ve got the discographic and artistic range and skill to do literally anything and i know this thing is gonna fly off the shelves when it comes out. so proud of them 🩵

Each frame could be a screensaver or a photo print.The director of the video is a famous Korean photographer whose incredible works of ultra creative futuristic visions captured Simons eye. The budget for this M/V was insane and worth all two minutes. And this isn't even the title track!

Here is a bit of info about the letter V and how it's used in the word GVNG: In this case, the V is a reversed A. In Urban American gang culture, the letter A looks like a 5-point star. Gangs who use the 6-point star to represent themselves use a V in place of A to show disrespect to the 5-point star. Basically turning the 5-point down. You can find many reasons why people would use a V instead of an A, the most common being a stylistic choice, but the gang one made more sense for the girls and the meaning of their song. All in all, A and V are very common letters in structure so you can use them esthetically if you want. I guess that was the reason as well, it's like using the Greek letter Ξ as an E for esthetics because phonetically it doesn't make sense to be read as an E.

The acronym of XG is actually for Xtraordinary Girls. They're a Japanese girl group based in South Korea, all of their members are Japanese two of them being half. And for the record, XG prefers not to be called a K-pop act but a “global girl group.”

I initially thought the word was 'governing.' The lyric doesn't quite seem to line up if we replace it with 'giving', don't you think? 😊
