"You Cannot Reason with a Tiger When Your Head Is in Its Mouth" - My favourite Quote from Churchill.
May 1940... 82 years ago, what a month for this incredibly complicated man.
Darkest Hour and Dunkirk go hand in hand. It's incredible both films came out at similar times and were made by a different cast and crew. Gary Oldman deserved all the awards for his portrayal as Sir Winston Churchill.
The quotes I’ve highlighted in the vid are ones that he actually quoted in real life!

My father told me that when he sat with my grandfather and grandmother listening to the " We shall fight on the beaches" speech. My Grandad saId "This man is an idiot, we have nothing, they have tanks and machine guns. We can't win." Then he turned the radio off and said. "But we can fight!" Incredibly beautifully put and remarkably true I will remember that. I see a lot of similarities between Churchill and Zelensky. Zelensky got every opportunity to leave Ukraine, western nations tried everything to get him to leave but he refused. Even with all the assassination attempts and bombs falling on the city he never ran. He goes to the front and stands with the people because he knew he needed to be done for the future.

@@LoveBagpipes - well, that's partly true. Dowding did write to Churchill to say that France was going to fall and that therefore the RAF should save as many fighters as possible for any forthcoming fight over Britain's skies. However, at the same time - as a recent documentary has pointed out - several squadrons of fighters fought waves of German aircraft in Belgium and France and prevented them from ever reaching the beaches used for the evacuation. There was one memorable episode when RAF fighters made a flight of 50 Heinkel bombers turn back from attacking Dunkirk.

From the time he was a young boy, Winston Churchill believed that one day he would be called to save England, he expected this to be sometime in the first world war - and largely thought his time was over by 1939 but now we realize that if not for his leadership during the Battle of Britain, the Second World War could have easily gone another way. So long as there are people to keep the torch burning, there will always be and England to which other countries can take example. George VI said something along those lines and I have full confidence that this Kingdom shall endure so long as there are still people to bear the torch. Do not be a pessimist, people - humans- don't change and that Dunkirk spirit of ago still lives on, times may seem bleak but by the grace of God there will be a real man like Churchill to pick up the mantle. Weather you like the tories, Labour or any other party, the biggest thing will always be a determination to do the right thing and preserve unity, because Christ died to make humanity good. Fear not, support for each other, no matter their background or their race will always prevail, just as Churchill ensured by not flagging in 1940. ❤ 🇬🇧

Say what you will of the British Empire and this honorable man, but when the world needed us most we held against tyranny, alone. No words have ever bore such truth: 'Whatever the cost may be'. This is why the commonwealth is so steadfast, our grandparents heard his mutter and stood strong as steel, they then spread, into australia from Malta, in my case. We faced annihilation and a fat oaf of an veteran curled our ears and languished our soul. Imagine a war without Churchill's speech. Who knows. But im Aussie. Bloody well proud. Come and take us. Commonwealth may be spoiled in blood, but this decade we revel in, is of this man. A fat drunkard, a downright dog... But come and take us. Step first. Im'a smash ya.

So, isn't speech writing and delivery the key? All one needs then is platform. Adolf Hitler used exactly the same method.

For another view of this time, there's a BBC series "Wartime Farm". One year of running a farm, when Churchill called for farmers to multiply x !! 5 !! their output. A family lived the life and did the work as it was done then.

Churchill wasn't flawed. He was absolutely brilliant. Greatest strategist, politician and orator of the 20th century. He was 20 years ahead of everyone else. No one comes close.

Most of the speeches that Churchill is famous for, were not even given by him..... he was spotted wandering the streets naked on more than one occasion with his bottle. The speeches were actually delivered by a voice over actor named Norman Shelley. Strange how the internet and the libraries are packed with fiction and lies about "those evil Germans", while the real culprits are treated as hero's. It sure pays to own the press.

@@ImWolf69 it pays to win the war, through victory you write the truth. However if hitler won we all would believe that jews were evil and should die - ur only a vessel on this world nothing u think is ur own
