Jim is a gem! A racer and gentleman. Jim was my instructor at Skip Barber Racing in 1990. He is able to share his talent with others and allow them to become better drivers. Genuine, knowledgeable, fast and humble, are but a few of the words I think to describe Jim. Truly top class of the field!

I've spent (wasted) countless hours on KZfaq listening to old songs I've enjoyed from the '60s through '90s, race videos, jet aircraft videos, etc etc...all the normal stuff. This has undoubtedly the best sounds I've heard on KZfaq.

As a former race driver and instructor, I have to say that Jim's lines and timing for passing was beautiful. Fluid driving, fast heel-and-toe, smooth braking, etc. No wonder he got first place!

I wish i was around during the 80's to see Can-Am and Group-B. I have been to vintage races and the can-am cars are by far the most exiting to watch, incredible!

Wow. You are one of the best drivers I have ever seen. I have an old car with a crashbox too but usually resort to clutching as I never drive that hard any more. You were right on the ragged edge there a few times. I was watching an artist. Thank you for that performance. I miss real cars very much, but I am glad that modern cars are much safer and have saved many lives.

I think the Lola Jim is driving in this is a small block 302, the other T70 coupes are running 410's I believe...glad our British brothers approve. Trying our best here in the colonies :)

I used to go to Brainerd while still in high school to watch Dennis Hulme and Mario Andretti to name a couple. Watching you set up for the passes and reel in one car after another was pure skill. I couldn't help myself when you passed for first; "Let 'er eat" inadvertantly slipped out. This film brought back so many enjoyable memories: the sights, sounds, smells... I'm hoping to be at Road America for the 50th anniversary.Hope to see you there, doing live what I've just seen.

I guess Broadley was TOO close the FoMoCo, too recently, for GM to give him the alloy 427. Or Jim Hall had dibs on it, after Penske's GS Roadster of '66. That Corvette was a real stump puller at Sebring '66, while it lasted. A 427 Lola Coupe COULD have beaten ALL in 1967. The Mk. IV and my 330P4. Another great "what if"... R&T had a test or a piece on such a car that was built up FOR THE STREET, in the 1990s. Yes, I was at Daytona, 1969, to see the Penske Mk.IIIb win. My friend Tony a2z finished 4th, OA, in his Police Pound Find recycled 911 that had been a 912. THAT got Ferrari's attention, and a phone call to NART got him the job, for a few years. Tony, Sam and Chuck.. MY heroes! aka: The Children's Crusade, against the dread 917 juggernaught… Forza Ferrari!!

Love watching in car racing, however I usually find myself backseat correcting for bad shifting and wrong corning lines. Not here though, this is the 3rd vid I have watched Jim driving and I don't think I could find one bad line or shift!! Subscribed. Hope I see a shot of my Great-uncle's Howmet TX racing in one of your vids :)

This driver doesn't use the clutch on upward gear changes .... he lifts off a little and grabs the next gear while the engine revs are dying. Bit he does use the clutch on downward shifts and blips the throttle to match road speed. Nice.

I will forever sadly associate the beautiful Lola T70 and Road America with the death of Donny Skogmo. The old pit wall was a hard ended concrete wall. I will spare you the details. On a more personal note my attendance at the 1965 500 was cut short by a near fatal asthma attack. Darn it, Jim Hall and Hap Sharp were there in the 2-Cs and I wanted to see them win.. instead I was hauled away mid race... and only heroic medical intervention prevented my death.

Wow interesting on the shifting. I have myself a V8 Stock Car for road racing and the Jerrico is just messing with me. That is the first time I have herd the double clutching explained. Oh and thanks for the great vidios. Chris Gill

Yes family-friendly please :) No Ferrari's in this field. All Lola race, the 2 Lola T-70 Coupes look a lot like many 70's Ferrari's.

We like to think the driver plays a part. The two coupe are running 410 motors, versus the 305 in the spyder. The spyder is also using a period fiberglass body, in comparison to what I think is carbon fibre bodies on the coupes. None of my literature shows spyders and coupes together. Love the question, and the reference to Elkhart...thats what I call it too :)

Absolutely fantastic, proper racing cars ! Amazing how short the throw is from third to fourth. Also, I notice you aren't using the clutch when going up through the gears - is that quite normal on these Can-Am beasts ? And when changing down, if going from fifth straight into second, do you only need to blip the clutch once when selecting the lower gear ?

I'd like to have seen a Mk.IIIb coupe with an alloy 427, for the 1967 Endurance races The Lola-Aston Martin was a disaster. Should have been a winner with the 427. Maybe Jim Hall had a lock on that motor, from GM? I attended Sebring 12 and Daytona 24 1964 - 1972. The Golden Years. Forza Ferrari! 330P4

How does shifting work on this car? I don't see him using a clutch.

Clearly the T70 spIder outpaces the coupe version at Elkhart. Did the two versions ever race together in the 1960's? I can't think of any series where they did that.

In some corners, you would only downshift once but the revs would be really high, what were you doing?

Good driving and race. I liked it! It would be nice to drive this Lola. I personally would push less the throttle in some heel toe but yes in a race I think it's hard... Good job!

The Coupes have a lot of stuff mandated by the FIA for Sports 25 or 50, whatever. Grp. 7 rules do away with most of that.. So it's not just the top that makes them heavier. A couple T-70s were at Sebring, 1965. They, and the Gurney 19J that had been SO fast at Daytona, made no impression. Le Deluge had something to do with THAT. A Sprite was in the top 10… on ground clearance! Open cars became bathtubs on wheels… Tires and coolers floating in flotillas…. Ferrari electrics thought it the Fourth Of July! What Ferrari's there WERE!.. Private entries only.. NOTHING like '64, my first..

Thanks for cutting out half of the lap with your mindless editing. I was hoping to ride around the entire circuit and hear the sound of the engine and transmission and the beautiful exhaust notes....damn. It's always more exciting in the car when you can see the closing speeds.
