Ahh, an Ultimate Adventure road day! Many would think that the trail days are going to be the toughest challenge to the well-built off-road rig, but after a hard trail day is usually when one finds the weak links. Dirt packed in the radiator preventing cooling, water in the hubs or axles wreaking havoc, mud in the wheels causing death wobble . . . The group rolls out of North Platte Nebraska, and almost 700 miles and 18 and a half hours later, rolls into their first campsite near Dubuque, Iowa to rest up. The crew is greeted in the morning at Complete Off Road Ranch by 200 acres of forested patches interwoven with corn and soybean fields, and pastures. Because of the huge amount of rain chased into the area the trails are slick and sloppy. The greasy mud in this area of Iowa requires drivers to use wheel speed to clear tread lugs and keep ahold of Mother Earth.

If I had a bunch of money lying around, I'd love to build a rig based on that vehicle. Don't know how much trail blazing I would do - though my folks' place has some nice trails - but it would be great to have in the winter here.

What's best for a daily driver / weekend warrier A/T's or MTs? (I want 35s) I also do alot of highway driving plenty of 1000 mile trips & want to have good tread life but also want to go mudding and not get stuck all the time.

Goodyear Wrangler duratrac. It's a nice crossover between all terrain and mud terrain. Good manners on the road, clears mud easy.

That Jeep looks very dependable. Some Chevy's are built to last as well; we just spent $50 in gas off-roading in loose dirt, come check out the video we made with DSLR's and GoPro's.

That jeep was built with a WW2 bomber theme a few years back. The steering 'wheel' is a reproduction yoke from a B17 bomber or something...

I am not trolling, just asking. Is it irresponsible to use a smoke flare like that when it isn't an emergency? Do people realize pilots are trained to look for things like that when flying?

That was more of a naval boat flare for use on the water and the smoke will dissipate a little after it is able to break through the tree canopy so I don't think it was a huge deal but I could see your concern

a little cheap tip for guy who dont want to pay 100$ or more for a tow strap use a tire with no rim and a strap on both side one to stuck truck one to pulling truck when you pull it stretches and works great

Vehicles need to be street legal in home state or just where you are going? Seems to be everyone is running similar tires - everyone getting them from the sponsorship?

Kyle Quitter Vehicles need to be registered and insured in your home state. Nitto was very generous with tire for most of the people on the trip.

Metcalf Good to know, I've contemplated sending in an application, but I was curious about tires as you rarely see Interco tires on UA and I've got a brand new set of 43's. Looks like I would need a tire change-

Kyle Quitter There is nothing stopping you from running any tire you want. I ended up running my BFG Krawlers. You do end up putting on a LOT of road miles so don't forget about that tread wear.

I wonder if there was street legal law in West Virginia, I used to travel through in my old rig. there was a mountain pass that my tires would roar through in the tunnel! i got lots of thumbs up and the finger!

81Kush No, it was a wheel issue. The bead lock bolts where snapping off causing tire bead damage.

No doubt :) every big event etc. has sponsorship which is obviously really beneficial for them I just personally found that it was more of a talking advert with some fun 4x4 than what Im used to from Roadkill etc :)

Richard Turner To put on an event this large you need sponsors. Sponsors deserve the time they pay for. This is a lot bigger than it looks. There was over 23 vehicle, 50+ people, camera crew, logistics, etc. They use to charge for the DVD too, we are probably getting 75% of the footage for free and its even a few months ahead of the DVD!

Apexpwner11 Mileage goes up around town for the most part. The low gears, lack of aerodynamics, etc hurt mileage above about 45mph. I can usually drive around most of the day on the trail on 5-6 gallons of fuel.

Well they don't call them off road vehicles for nothing ... but these are all registered and street'ish-able as you can see from the videos of them convoying on roads. In general it's not uncommon for vehicles prepped this much for off-roading to be trailered to events though.

Why not just stay on the highway? The trails change over the years, some years are tight, some years are more wide open, etc. It's more about trying to find the limits of the sport in general...not just one type of vehicle in general.

are you fucking kidding me? A DVD? what is this 2005? i saw a bunch of go pros that can recorde in 1920x1080 aka 1080p HD so why in the hell was it squeezed into a DVD? not only do you loose alot of detail the image is smaller so if you play it on an HDTV the image looks blurry as hell. its sub standard and i sure as hell wouldn't buy it. oh and putting the video onto a blueray disk would only cost a few dollars more so just make it an even $19.99 or some shit to offset the price.

tRawwwww1 Have you actually done it? I drove a LR Def 90 from El Paso TX to Honduras in 1981. Effin thing broke down so many times I traded it for a clapped out Dodge Power wagon in Tegucigalpa and drove the rest of the trip to Panama on, and around, the PanAm Highway through some of the deepest mud holes you can imagine. The thing you need to know about LR's is they need to travel in groups of at least 5 in order to have enough salvage to get 3 to their destination. Oh Yeah! WARN Winches rule!
