Audi's are the most reliable German brand & they are now in the #3 spot on the reliability chart. Acura used to be 3rd, it's now Audi, right under Lexus & Toyota. BMW is the brand I would be afraid of when it comes to reliability. Or anything American. I came from Acura to Audi & will never go back. The Germans combine luxury & performance like no one else. My S4 has been just as flawless as my previous TL Type-S -- in fact, it's been MORE reliable. My TL had a few issues here & there & the dash crack issue. Audi & all German brands have vastly improved their reliability.

As a person that always buys used to save 1/2 or more I am going through reviews of older performance Audis. I really like your reviews so I was glad to find this 2013 A6 review. I have a 2001 2.7T 6 speed (not my only car) looking at upgrades . The S4 looks better to me than the S6 for reliability and size. Also, I see the S4 has better resale value. The one absolute in the next Audi line is the DCT, now discontinued, unfortunate. Thanks for the great review. As a side, my A6 2.7T has 234,000 miles and still runs like a clock. No major repairs. Going to go drive one of the 2013 vintage S4s.

I may be buying one soon... A simple $850 tune will make 370hp/360tq, 450hp is easily attainable if you want to spend about 4k total.

S4 is a great car! I have a Prestige edition with the supercharged V6 and sports differential and it rocks. HP is definitely understated for sure as it's easily 400 hp in this thing stock...

Ross MK More like 370 crank given what they dyno at stock. Just looking at the 1320' times and mph will confim. All moot really as a simple tune or even a tune and pulley like what I have puts them into the 460hp range (390hp/375tq to the wheels) good for very high 11's to 12.0 in the 1320 at 115-117mph :) She's a beast now.

DCT is correct (dual-clutch transmission). If you wanted to use the 'direct shift' terminology, the correct acronym would be DSG (direct shift gearbox). DST just means Daylight Saving Time.

I'd go with the S4. These business sedans are great all around. In the winter I park the Porsche and drive an A4 with blizzaks but am considering trading the a4 for the s4. No real reason. Just because. They can always be chipped for more power but really no need to. For the track there are other machines to select from.

So what is the long term reliability on these Audi s4/s5?
@abassi1173
@abassi1173 3 жыл бұрын
Apparently pretty excellent for the B8.5. The B8 had more issues. The only thing is that DCT needs to have regular fluid changes to keep it in tip-top shape, and there is some carbon build up in the intake. Aside from that, pretty bulletproof!

Finally, somebody intelligent! Actaully, the engineering work that went into the TVS 4-lobe supercharger is considerably more than went into any vehicle engineering program of the last decade (Thats why EVERYONE is using it nowadays). Before it, superchargers burned more gas because of their low thermal efficiency. Now, with 4 lobes, it rivals the efficiency of a turbo (and that uses FREE, waste energy). Not to mention the built-in water to water intercooler... And, that E46 ran dirtier.
@sleepersown
@sleepersown 12 жыл бұрын
My friend, the reason I said you sound silly is because no matter how sophisticated the s/c is on this audi, the numbers simply aren't impressive. The fact that the s5 ran similar numbers to the M3 with this great s/c ( no offense to it's engineering ) makes the performance pretty " meh ". Numbers aren't everything but, I was speaking specifically about them. I think it's a low blow to compare other tech when there's over a decade difference in advancements. Especially tech the M3 didn't use.

Man I love audi's ( especially the A5/A8L ) but, it's so disappointing to have a supercharged v6 only run mid to low 13's when the E46 M3 did that over a decade ago N/A. I guess it's admirable to stick to your lane. IMO, bmw and mb can't touch audi's interior ( which is where i'm spending 100% of my time lol ). The performance numbers will still make for a " fun " car but eh, I think i'd rather just get the A5 unless the aftermarket really makes the S5 appealing.

actually the V6 has more potential off the mark... a simple ECU tune can have you looking at 400+ hp... with the addition of exhaust, intake, supercharger pulley's, etc you can be looking at c63 hp... anything past that in my opinion is just a bit ridiculous and you might as well spend the money on something more focused

So, its a low blow to compare technology, but not numbers? OK then,lets compare motives. When the E46 M3 was being sold (side note, even with grenading engines I think the E46 M3 was one of the best cars of the last 30 years) no one had a clue their CAFE average would have to be 54mpg three vehicles generations from then. Im sure Audi could have made the S5 faster than the cars before it, but then theyd miss there CAFE target. Its a whole new ball game now is what Im getting at.

I've seen several dynoplots. The wheel horsepower is close to what Audi advertises. lol so the crank hp is almost 400 but you can continue to live in denial. Go check apr dynos for the car. How the hell else can a 4000 lb car do mid 4's 0-60?

No, I don't feel it's a low blow as with better tech the numbers should come even easier. And honestly, why are we comparing anything otherwise ? My comment only expressed slight depression with audi's plan of action. They're surely capable of creating a faster car, it seems they've opted not to. Bringing CAFE standards is about as hurtful as the high tech s/c. Reason being, it hasn't stopped BMW and MB from creating faster vehicles has it ? I'm really not trying to go tit for tat. I just CONT

Absolute crap. I'm actually not surprised that Audi doesn't ever update its crappy interior. German fanboys are willing to pay a $10k premium for that old shit. My mom's 2012 Q7 has probably the worst interior in the segment. The nav screen is not much larger than my phone, and yet they still sell. There is no leather/stitching anywhere other than the seats...but still sells. Looks same as A4 interior...still sells. Good job, German fanboys buying this shit :)
