Can't believe this cars design is a decade old now as the 2023 Q50 still looks exactly like this, but is still one of the best looking sedans even though it's been showing its age in areas. I really hope a redesign is in the works & Infiniti doesn't discontinue the Q50 as it's their only car left.

I went from a G37x Sedan to a Q50 3.7 AWD Premium and frankly I'm surprised by all the negative commentary on the Q50. For years both owners and reviewers criticized the G37's harsh & noisy ride, excessive NVH from the VQ37, below-average fuel efficiency, and overall lack of luxury/refinement when compared to the competition. So Infiniti addresses all of these weaknesses and people are shocked that the steering and handling is softer than it was in the G37 and it's not quite as fun to drive? Come on guys, of course there's going to be at least some sacrifices in steering and handling when you dramatically increase comfort, luxury, and overall refinement. But the Q50 is certainly not the land yacht that some people try to make it out to be. The sportiness of the G37 is still there, it's just more mature and grown-up than the G-series ever was, the luxury and refinement levels are finally right on par with the best of the competition. And Infiniti has clearly been paying attention to what their customers want, just look at the 2017/2018 Q50 & Q60, especially the Red Sport. They finally were able to dial in the steering, chassis, and suspension and with only a small sacrifice in ride comfort.

How well do you like your Q50? Ive been looking into getting one and they seem good. One thing for me is i need something that gets up and goes for merging, so it the power there? Thanks.
@crazyjkz
@crazyjkz 10 жыл бұрын
If you want power, then you definitely should look at the Q50. The 3.7L VQ V6 pulls very hard at all speeds. You might mistake its acceleration for a V8. It definitely beats the competition as far as power and acceleration goes, and the best part is that even with all that power you still get good fuel economy. The RWD models are rated at 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, and the AWD models are rated at 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. That is excellent fuel economy for a 328 hp V6 that does 0-60 in the 5.3-5.6 second range.

I just spent the last two days with the 2014 Q50 without the drive by steering, and I am confused what people find wrong with it. I've driven a large number of cars, and I found that when pushed, the steering feel was excellent. However, there was slight understeer, but this can be fixed with new tires. Power was best in class, also.

That car isn't as equipped as the car I drove last week. It had the steer by wire and I never noticed it until the guy I was driving with told me. That car is FAST. The 328 comes on tap fr. I want it to be my next car forsure. The is luxurious most def but it has sport characteristics as well. I think it has a good balance of both. I could of got a 28k '14 Q50S that was fully equipped. That is a an amazing deal for what you get. The lane keep assist, the adaptive cruise control. Sure you don't need the features, but its a bragging right to have them in my book. If you want pure SPORT then you might want to step it up to German competition tbh. I say the Q50 is 60 percent luxury and 40 percent sport. The car is FAST though I was goin 80mph without knowing on a 45 mph zone. I typically go 55-60 in that area and I was hitting 80 like nothing. Test drive this car before you doubt it. The car is one of the best looking on the road by far.

To everyone that is criticizing the new DAS steer-by-wire system in the Q50, please keep in mind that although this is a brand new and unproven steering technology that obviously has several problems that need to be resolved (and Infiniti has already recently issued an update to help resolve some of the problems and with several more updates to come), this steering system is optional and is not the standard steering system. The standard steering is a hydraulic rack & pinion steering system and is essentially a carryover of the previous G37's hydraulic steering rack, albeit with a few refinements. The standard hydraulic steering has been reported to be just as good as the G37's superb steering and it has shown absolutely NONE of the issues that the optional steer-by-wire DAS system has shown, and it has been reported to have excellent feel and feedback just as in the G37. So it all comes down to how you get this car equipped. If your thinking about getting a Q50 I would HIGHLY recommend passing on the DAS steer-by-wire system and just stick with the standard hydraulic steering just as I did in my Q50, and I love the steering in my Q50 and haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.

I own both a G37s and now a Q50s Hybrid and can attest to the fact that the Q50 is faster, more refined, and more luxurious. The steer-by-wire is fine for this aggressive driver and the interior is one of the best I've seen. My only qualm is with the regenerative brakes which can be very finicky.
@chigasaki06

"more refined, and more luxurious" More refined, that's good, but I think they focused too much on luxury. The steer by wire to me is horrible. I'm disappointed because I was going to buy this car, so I thought that the model without steer by wire would have maintained the handling of the G, and I was wrong, the steering on non DAS models is pretty bad as well. Personally, all the focus on tech to me is a little ridiculous. Focus on the basics, like great handling and steering, and less on the totally unnecessary stuff like self driving tech and stupid apps. People should be focused on driving, not facebooking.

I own A 2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium AWD without the Technology Package. I did, however, get Navigation and 19 inch wheels. I did not need the S option as I do mostly city driving and felt the standard setup without drive by wire steering and the bigger wheels would be a perfect combo of looks and performance....I was right. In sport mode the steering is plenty accurate so not sure what Autoweek is talking about. I have owned over a dozen BMWs and you can't touch this car for size/performance/price. Mine has all anyone could need for 45k a comparable BMW with a turbo 4 would still be more with the same equipment and be uglier. No thanks, I get compliments daily from my Black over Stone Infiniti. Plenty fast, plenty luxurious and a NO money down lease of $433 a month loaded.

I'm a little confused, MotorWeek. It seems like you've branded the new Q as "Q Stands For Less Sporty." Yet from what I can tell the Q laid down some pretty impressive performance numbers, which also seems to be your assessment when you said it "Still has great performance." The only two improvements you suggest is having more steering feel (which in my opinion is one of the most extremely overrated attributes) and having a manual transmission, which let's face it are becoming less and less available. I can't for the life of me figure out how not having a manual transmission translates into an overall less "sporty" car, unless of course the automatic transmission is in and of itself, awful.

Infiniti has done a lot with these cars. They are impressive. I have driven the 2018 QX50, Q50 and Q60. I own a 2014 Q60S as well as a 2004 Nissan 350Z. To be frank, my friend's 2004 G35 and my 2004 350Z are much more responsive then the newer ones. You have better road feel and although not as powerful, the older VQ35 is much more responsive especially at lower RPMs. Well, the ones with the single throttle body anyway. Sometimes a great driving experience is more then just raw acceleration and slalom times. I really liked the newer Infiniti cars I drove ( Had the QX50 for a week and the Q50 and Q60 for a day each) but there is something special about the older G35. I also like the way it looks better. Just like I prefer the looks of the older 350Z over the newer 370Z. But, that is just my personal opinion. I would be happy with any of the cars I mentioned. The big plus is they are Japanese and have Japanese reliability... Looking at my friends who own German cars and laugh at me, I am usually the last one to laugh since their cars spend a lot of time in the shop and it is always a four figure bill. I will say one thing about German cars, they don't rattle.. If the Japanese could do something about those darn dash rattles and little rattles around the windshield, the cars would be pretty much perfect.

I drive the 2013 sentra and found no problem with the steer by wire. It put your wheels exactly where you turn the steering. I don't understand the disconnected feel reviewers talk about. The hydraulic steering feels too heavy for me and fights me when I'm making a turn. Don't like my steering forcing me to the left when I'm trying to turn right. The steer by wire is light and responsive and takes less effort. Most reviewers review cars no matter the type like it's a sport/track or race car. They want every car to feel like their dream car and use that car as a bench mark for all other cars. Each car should feel like it's own and not like any other

I love the feel of a hydraulic steering much better too. People, who like light steering won't understand. The light steering is easy for less-capable drivers, and older people while providing less feel of the road compared to a hydraulic steering system. If you like light steering, then drive a car with more electronic assistance. It just won't teach you to become a better driver, but will get the job of going from point A to point B done for you, like a appliance-alike Toyota.

All they needed to do was carry over the great handling dynamics of the G, and this would in my opinion be the best in class.

@crazyjkz
@crazyjkz 10 жыл бұрын
The jittery ride is due to the run-flat tires that Infiniti foolishly uses on the Q50 as the OEM tire. The run-flats give a harsher, stiffer, and noisier ride than regular non run-flat tires. If it had a good set of regular all-season premium touring tires from quality tire brands such as Michelin, Pirelli, or Continental then the overall ride quality would be superior to the previous G37. And the steering issues are ONLY in the hybrid models or the 3.7 models with the technology package which all have the new DAS steer-by-wire steering system where you can change the steering feel with different settings. The Q50 models with the standard hydraulic rack & pinion steering system are just as good as the G37's hydraulic steering rack because it's essentially a carryover steering system albeit with a few improvements & refinements. I have a Q50 3.7 AWD Premium with the standard hydraulic steering and the overall steering feel is excellent, it's just as good if not slightly better than the steering in my previous G37x Sedan.

Even when dimmed the lights and icons were distracting. I have an ipad at home, don't need one in my car. Steering feel was very artificial. Overall, I went with an Audi S4, it was in a different league in my opinion. I have a Porsche cayman s also, and the infinti was just not my cup of tea.

As far as the lack of low-end torque, I will admit that the VQ37 is a little soft off the line, but after that it picks up real fast and takes off so strongly that you might mistake it for a V8. In fact, it actually performs better than some V8 luxury cars. 0-60 in the mid-five second range with 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway is an incredible combination of performance and fuel efficiency, and nobody can deny that. And thanks to Infiniti's recent reductions in NVH and improvement in overall refinement for the VQ37 in the Q50 and the improvements in fuel economy it is more well-rounded now than ever before. Also FWIW, the 3.7 does have better low-end power in the Q50 than it did in the previous G37 thanks to upgrades and improvements to the engine and transmission software. And going from a G37x Sedan to a Q50 3.7 AWD I can speak from personal experience.

The back seats in the Q50 are horrific. Set way to high..very strange. The steering is the worst I've ever felt at low speeds. I have no problem with the engine. Not much torque, but as you said faster in the higher speed range. I could not wait to get the test drive over. I drove the Audi S4 1 hour after the Q50 test drive and it was in a different league. I purchased the S4 that evening.
