"While midsize family sedan sales may be on a downward trend, they remain a very big part of the automotive landscape, and a highly contested one at that. Throw in the fact that brand loyalty is also no longer what it once was, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for Ford to make some serious four-door headway. Let’s find out if this new Fusion Sport will be their ticket to ride..."

Usually when car makers tack "sport" onto the name of a family sedan or economy car, it just means some stripes and maybe bigger wheels at most. Ford actually meant it this time, though. Pretty impressive performance for such a common family car.

A 13.9 quarter mile time at 99 mph is fairly pedestrian in the higher performance segment. But motorweek's times are always a little slower than say motor trend, and they tested it on regular gas whereas the 380 foot pounds of torque is specifically with 93 octane. Regardless, I bought one of these a few days ago, ( huge $7,000 rebate to start, and the selling price ended up being 72.2% of the MSRP) and I absolutely love it. There's so much torque you just don't care what gear your in, the car moves regardless. I like that deep torquey feeling more than I care about quarter mile times, but I'm guessing it is capable of more like 13.6 or .7 with the higher octane gas.

I recall my 1987 GrandNational had the same quarter mile time, AND trap speed. Sometimes progress is good. This one has four wheel drive, MUCH better handling and looks great also. Of course, if you ARE a hot rodder you have a smaller engine to build up in the Fusion. Still, a great ride.

Doesn't work. I lost 2 front tires on my Fusion Sport due to potholes. If you watch that segment closely and freeze frame when the tire impacts the edge of the pothole, you can see how much sidewall deflection there is. The 235/40R19 tires are woefully undersized for this 4120 lb sedan - the equivalent weight of a 1998-2002 Crown Victoria (which came with 225/60R16 tires). That ping pong ball clip came from Ford's own media release where they tested the car in the Ford Credit parking lot in Dearborn. My girlfriend worked there and said they filled that pothole with filler to decrease the depth of the pothole.

When running the car on the test track please pump up the audio value so we can hear the engine. Lower the volume on the voiceover and get rid of any tacky sound effects that ruin the experience. You guys used to do this with your old reviews & what makes them entertaining to watch even after decades is that we could hear the cars operating as if you were really there.

The wife and I bought one of these yesterday and we love it. We test drove a titanium with all the bells and whistles and the 2.0 ecoboost. Our sport is a base model with no nav and no touchscreen and the standard instrument cluster. We really dont need all the fancy shit. However, that 2.7 ecoboost had both of us smiling ear to ear on the test drive. Very very quick off the line. Id love to throw some catless down pipes and a tune on it to really see what it'd do

I got t-boned at about 65 mph and sent spinning over a curb and back onto the lane of travel without flipping, in my 2010 Taurus SHO. I feel like I can trust the Taurus in an accident now. But I can't find a decent SHO with less than 50k miles and was thinking about getting this car instead. I'm not sure if this would be comparable or not. Also, the SHO was a great sleeper. There were only a few cars, mostly high-line European cars, that could even keep up with me on the highway. Curious if this car is worth looking at.

I've already gone down to my local Ford dealer to look at one. (Even test drove an SHO) Problems are, with a few options, these Fusion Sports top $40k easy. Also it's a Fusion...a car that Ford pumps out nearly 300k units a year in all sorts of guises and a lot of fleets/rentals. It doesn't look all that different to other trim levels either. So Sport version or not, resale will be terrible. Not a fan of that instrument panel either. Give me some actual gauges, Ford, not just a tacky small digital tachometer. IMO, I'm willing to give up 2 seconds 0-60 and get a Mazda 6 Grand Touring. Arguably the best looking mid size sedan out there that still combines fun to drive, reliability, safety, and well over 30mpg while not being dime a dozen.

I appreciate their attempts at making a quick family car, but let's take a look at the Taurus SHO for a second. The SHO is supposed to be their super sedan, but its horsepower (fair though it is) could be better given the competition. Now, if Ford straight up put the same engine from their new Ford GT in there - specs and all - that would be balling.

There's always a market for manuals. Many cars are still manual only with no auto option. Just because many millennial snowflakes aren't learning to drive manuals doesn't mean there isn't a market for them.

Turn dial transmission shift...how about a single Nintendo joystick to steer? That dial shift totally takes away any sport of this car no matter how many sport badges you put on it. I'll keep my 2013 or opt for another brand.

People talk so bad about Ford. I have a Ford Fusion 2014 2.5L with 18's with the wing. I have had no issues and the gas mileage is amazing. I've really enjoyed the car. Sync irritates me sometimes. I won't be getting another Ford though. Maxima has won me over. Can't wait to pay off this car.

It wasn't this high end up level trim but I recently got stuck on the side of I-95 when my 2017 Fusion rental car's 6 speed transmission refused to shift causing the car to cut off repeatedly. As a frequent renter I've become accustom to asking my agent NOT to give me a Chrysler 200 due to bad experiences with several different ones over the past couple of years I know that perhaps I need to add the Fusion to that list. I LOVE MY CAMRY!

Car is a great powertrain package. 5.3 seconds to 60?? That was V8 Mustang performance not that long ago. Pretty efficient too. Would be a fun company car. Only negative? Interior. Ford is lagging behind on interior design and packaging. The details are okay, but not inviting. Seats are fine. Room is tight for something this big and heavy. The core of this car is excellent for 2. Merely okay for 4. Everything about the Fusion is behind the times except the warp speed drive train that would make Captain Kirk and Mr. Scott proudly give her all she's got. I like this car. Being 2020, Ford still has not discovered how to do an interior well. Steal some lessons from your cousin Lincoln. Though still too many plastics, Lincoln is showing what Ford can do. Even if it is a little more, we will gladly pay for an interior more engaging and more efficient and better plain thought out in space. A missed opportunity in an otherwise fun car with Pony car squirt. A grade powertrain. C- interior.

I agree with you 100%! I own one of these (a 2018) and I love the car, but the interior is where it lacks. Unfortunately Ford never got their act together until it was too late! The Fusion is now discontinued sadly, so us Fusion enthusiasts will have to hold on to ours and continue enjoying them.
