The fact of the matter is the truckie probably saved your life… What you are unaware of is what happens to a road train on single lane bitumen when forced off The rear trailers will whip about wildly and probably take you out in a big way So it’s MUCH safer for him to hold his line and YOU get over and let him through … This is the outback code… If you venture out here learn the code

It is common knowledge that road trains/trucks remain on the road...all other vehicles move over, even I, as an older town-dwelling lady know that.

Generally if 2 trucks are heading towards each other the loaded truck will stay on the road and empty truck will get off the road, it’s a lot easier to pull an empty truck out of bother than a loaded one

Bollicks 👊🏾 No one else is gonna say it, so I will, truckies are bullies and murderers on wheels, Outback or Urban - FACT 👏🏾

Talk to locals about driving etiquette on single lane roads . Tourists always get this wrong . One driver ( the smaller vehicle) should move off the road completely and stop . The larger vehicle can then stay on the bitumen and not shower the other vehicle in stones that are always thrown up . Getting headlights and screens replaced in remote areas is a pain in the arse . That Truckie would've been swearing his head off at your dumb riding and having no idea about how much his trailers move around if he goes onto the dirt .

Rule number 1 in the outback: Make way for the road train. Rule number 2 in the outback: Never wake a sleeping man! 😆😆

The real reason to get off the road when a road train comes is, imagine 50+tonnes and many many wheels getting into the gravel. Chances of flicking up rocks gets proportional. So whats better, giving the road train clear road and then the less likelihood of rocks coming your way, Or doing battle for 1/2 the road each and taking your chances. :)

@BradIvey
@BradIvey Жыл бұрын
@@temptempy6750 Exactly that. There's many people who are just trying to do the right thing but a lack of understanding can be deadly. Personally, I've got several different driving styles that I will adopt depending on the situation country (car), city (car), rigid truck, trailers (HC vs MC and again country vs city), bike (but haven't really ridden in the city yet), the list goes on. Some are quite similar, and some are quite different. Most people I know drive one particular way and will slowly (if ever) adapt to different conditions.

Always pull off the bitumen for roadtrains. It's not about bullying by the truck driver , if the put a trailer or wheels off the road they at minimum shower you with rocks and dust and possible flip rear trailer.

Love your adventures , but a note for every one. The Road Train will throw up rocks if it touches the gravel . Its your forward motion that then determines where the rocks hit you. If your stationary worst case is a broken side window , if your still moving at any thing above 10 kl/h its a smashed windscreen or face. I learned this the hard way many years ago. The rocks are not thrown forward , they are coming across the road . It is your speed that causes the damage.

Mate, he didn’t try to run you off the road….with those narrow outback roads and road trains you are supposed to get off the road when you see a road train coming. I spent years in NW QLD and we would always pull off the road when we saw a road train coming. We were driving a Land Cruiser. What do you expect him to pull off the road for you? City slickers!

On single lane, road trains stay on the black top. Otherwise cars and bike riders get pelted with lots of rocks and stones. Light vehicles have ample time to slow down and move over.......road trains dont have the same capability.
