Road Tripping in a small airplane: California to Arkansas / Part 1

Flying across the country in a small airplane is kind of like taking a road trip. We flew my small airplane, a Grumman Tiger, from California to Arkansas and back to visit family for the 4th of July.
The original plan was to fly from Los Angeles to Sedona, overnight in Santa Fe, then somewhere in Oklahoma and finally to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Thunderstorms along the way forced us to change our plan while in the air.

Something about this really captured what it feels like to be on the road (or I guess in the sky in this case). This is incredibly inspiring.

I really enjoyed this one - nice storytelling! I have to point out that "A man and a woman walk into a FBO with a Venus flytrap in a coffee mug..." sounds like the start of a joke (but I don't know what the rest of the joke would be!)

thx Thomas! It was a fun trip. Ha...I feel like the punchline of that joke has to have something to do with flies /flying. I'll have to ask Just Plane Silly to write that joke b/c I suck at that stuff.

Forget Redbull. Your cup of venus fly trap gives you literal wings.

Nice video as usual. I've heard of people flying with their comfort pets but never with a comfort plant. I think you need to promote this. The FFA would love you for it. Hope the plant survived.

I'm glad you stopped in Gallup. It is a great town, and one that few people know about. The native dancing in the town square most afternoons is really fun to see.

Thanks for taking us along! Love the scenery you get to enjoy out west, we're so flatland here in the mid-Atlantic, even though the coast is always fun. Looking forward to the return trip and if the plant survived ;)

Thx for watching! The more I've flown I appreciate the variety of scenery all over the place. Variety is the spice of life! The plant update will be in part 2! I'll finish it when I can find the time. My "regular work" has been taking up most of my time lately.

Thx Timothy. I put some time into these little babies so it's nice when people notice that stuff. Yes...Sedona has some really pretty terrain...but it also gets pretty high when heading east and northeast.. When the density altitude is high, in my 180hp plane, it requires circling around to gain altitude before proceeding to the east.

Ha. I've played around with the mic on both sides. It's a mono signal from my setup so there's no real "right or wrong". Yeah I used to go to Lake Ouachita as a kid too.

I try...but there's always something to fix :) I flew IFR on this trip from Tucumcari, NM to Ada, OK b/c of the clouds enroute. Over AZ and NM I flew VFR b/c I wanted flexibility with altitude and flight path.

Thx for your input Vitor! Sometimes it's such a quick turnaround that I don't get much time to film the towns I stop at. That said...I'll have a little more of that in part 2 of this series.

My stomping grounds! Hope you had a great visit in Arkansas, would’ve loved to host you two for dinner and shown you some of the many plants my wife has collected, loved the flytrap! Lol. I own a bonanza but have more time in a tiger!

Whereabouts are you? I grew up in Little Rock from 3rd grade thru high school. My parents still live there so I make it back there from time to time. As much as I love the tiger, a Bonanza would be a much better plane for these kind of trips.

We live on 60 acres in Hagarville Arkansas, just a few minutes from Clarksville (H35). 25 minute flight into Hot Springs, my wife’s sister lives in Hot Springs village so we spend a lot of time there.

Strange, I’ve got self serve gas in Ardmore and Durant in OK.
@Wolficorntv

It's been awhile since that trip but it was odd. I talked to some local pilots at the field and they were telling me that self serve wasn't an option at any of the surrounding airports. It was late afternoon on July 3rd so that didn't help things either.
