Yes, Jeff Healey was indeed blind. He had a rare form of cancer that took his eyesight as a child and would eventually cause his death in 2008. He was a legendary Canadian musician and we lost him far too soon. His father bought him a guitar when he was young and he learned to play at a school for the blind but he came up with his method of playing on his own. As for the bouncer vs cooler - the cooler's job is to keep his eye on the room while the bouncers are the ones that intervene when there is an issue. As his character says, their job is to be nice until he tells them it's time to not be nice.

FUN FACT: Bill Murray is good friends with Kelly Lynch and her husband, and EVERY time Roadhouse is on tv, no matter where he is in the world and what time, he will call up Kelly's husband Mitch Glazer and says "Your wife is getting banged by Patrick Swayze and she's not putting up much of a fight." In an interview years ago, Kelly Lynch - the doctor - told a fun story about Bill Murray and her husband, screenwriter Mitch Glazer, who co-wrote Scrooged. "Speaking of Bill Murray, every time Road House is on and he or one of his idiot brothers are watching TV - and they're always watching TV - one of them calls my husband and says [In a reasonable approximation of Carl Spackler], 'Kelly's having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They're doing it. He's throwing her against the rocks. [Away from the receiver.] What? Oh, my God.' Mitch was just walking out the door to the set, and he said that Bill once called him from Russia."

Since you watched Road House, I'd recommend watching Next of Kin as your next Patrick Swayze movie. It doesn't get as much love as other Swayze movies, but it's a personal favorite. As someone who gets injured a lot, I can understand Dalton carrying around his medical files and doing first aid on himself. The few times I've been to the ER for serious injuries was when I couldn't stitch myself up, set bones, or needed foreign materials removed. Having the top of my right middle finger reattached was kind of interesting to watch TBH.

Regarding Sam Elliot's mustache: there's a wonderful line in the show "Grace and Frankie", when Sam Waterston (as his character) makes the following comment upon seeing a picture of Sam's character: "There's ten people in the world that can [get away with] that mustache, and he's nine of them!" A "road house" is a particular type of drinking establishment. It's built along a highway in a small town, and gets a fair amount of intinerant customers.

A roadhouse is an inn, dance hall, tavern, nightclub, etc., located on a highway, usually beyond city limits (no police, just the Sheriff). Bar room brawls were a part of Southern culture that has mostly died out. While most bars were fairly responsible, there was always one or two that would over serve and had a reputation for being "rowdy".

Not just southern culture, they had them up in Maine where the loggers would come in on the weekends, eventually a brawl breaks out, if you're still there when the police arrive, you get tossed in jail, and you get out when your share of the damages were paid. This happened every weekend evening. Probably doesn't happen anymore. 🤷‍♂

"Road House!" - Peter Griffin (Seth MacFarlane), Family Guy (1999) Fun Fact: According to Kelly Lynch, whenever Bill Murray sees her sex scene with Patrick Swayze on television, he calls her husband, Mitch Glazer, to tease him about it. Music Enthusiast Fact: The band playing at the start of the movie is Cruzados. After the band disbanded, lead singer Tito Larriva formed the band Tito & Tarantula, which is the band that played at the Titty Twister in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). Roundhouse Kick Fact: According to Sam Elliott, all of the actors did their own stunts. They were all trained by Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a holder of nine black belts in nine different disciplines. Urquidez believed so much in Patrick Swayze's abilities, that he suggested Swayze become a competitive kickboxer.

Good movie. I love Sam Elliott in it…& his voice. It’s been described as part lion’s purr & part gravel road…it’s the sound testosterone would make if it could talk. Sam’s first role was a bit part in “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid” with Paul Newman, Robert Redford & the woman who became his wife, Katherine Ross…a great movie which was such a success it lead to Newman & Redford making “The Sting,” another wonderful movie. Anyhoo, Sam & Kathering actually didn’t meet until several years when they co-starred in “The Legacy” & have been married for about 40 years. It was a horror film that's best remembered as being the film that brought them together…she was on husband #4 at the time, divorced him & married Sam, his only marriage. Sam’s had a very long, successful career: The Big Lebowski, Tombstone, A Star is Born remake, Fatal Beauty, Rough Riders to name a few. On TV, he was in the mini-series Gettyburg, The Sacketts, The Quick & the Dead, Hallmark’s November Christmas, Shadow Riders, etc.. Even if the project sucked, Sam would be the best thing about it because he's that good.

There is a funny story attached to this movie. The actor Bill Murray (Ghostbusters/Groundhog Day) and his brother are really big fans of this movie, and one of their writer friends actually got married to the actress that played the blonde doctor/love interest in this movie. So, whenever one or both Murray brothers see this movie if they're flipping channels or for their own enjoyment, it doesn't matter what time of day or night, they will call their friend and say in a creepy voice, "I'm watching your wife having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. He's got her up against the wall." Then they hang up.

Then I see him in this film and he's towering over everyone. Terry was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 by his longtime rival Dusty Rhodes (RIP). One of his biggest contributions to wrestling was mentoring Mick Foley and suggesting he start his infamous "Hell in a Cell" match on TOP of the cell. A radio station in Philadelphia did a private screening of “Roadhouse” in one of those old Artdecco style theaters that seats a couple hundred persons. Instead of charging money all you had to say was “pain don’t hurt” to get a free seat. Ashleigh, one of Sam’s greatest rolls was playing General Buford in “Gettysburg”. The Battle of Gettysburg is a too heavy a topic for your channel but I recommend it to you to watch in the privacy of you own home. General Buford was the right man at the right time and Sam Elliott did a superlative piece of acting portraying his character.

My younger brother still does not understand what my Dad and I both busted out laughing when he asked us how we both felt one afternoon after we had been sampling new whiskeys. We both looked at him after he said we would feel it in the morning and said well that is just fine because all pain does is remind us that we are still breathing.

Yeah that’s one thing that annoys me about the movie the most is Ben Gazzara’s bad Guy character. He has a good gig basically running the town, collecting protection from all the businesses. But when Dalton fires his idiot nephew he keeps escalating things until he’s having Sam Elliot murdered and he’s destroying a car dealership (that he gets a cut from). And finally pushes the town leaders into killing him at the end. It doesn’t seem like what a rational guy would do. He could have just waited until Dalton cleaned up the Deuce and moved onto a new bar, and continued with business as usual.

@@andrewward5891 guys with big egos and control issues tend to act rational but inside they're being emotional. He seems like a mid level mobster that got booted from the family business due to his relationships with senior members keeping him from getting whacked. Now that he's been benched in a small town he has to flex to feed his bruised ego. But I'm not a Sopranos fan so who knows. LoL

Ben Gazzara was in a movie "The Bridge at Remagen". He plays an American soldier who is kind of a low life. He loots the bodies of dead Germans for anything valuable, etc. At one point he says, "I'm not going home poor, I'm going to be something". Not exact quote, but along those lines. I've seen comments on the video for that movie joking that Brad Wesley is basically the same character from Bridge at Remagen. He went home after the war and this is what he became.

You just watched one of my favorite movies. This was the first film I saw Sam Elliott in and it was love at first sight. ❤ When this movie came out Patrick Swayze was my celebrity crush and Jeff Healy's "Angel Eyes" was my favorite song. I was in heaven. I watch this movie every couple of years and it never gets old. Two of the sexiest and most talented actors and one of the greatest blues players together on screen at the same time... ❤❤❤ As far as the movie's name goes, a roadhouse is what you call rural bars that sit off the main road outside city limits. They are usually filled with bikers and have a reputation of being pretty rough. "Cooler" is just another name for the head bouncer. Their job is to intervene when disputes start to escalate and cool things down, hence the name "cooler." If you aren't familiar with Jeff Healy you should listen to the song "Angel Eyes." I linked it for you. It has over 32 million views so I really think you will love it.❤ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oceXY7ekv-DcoKs.html

I love me a Roadhouse reaction, but this one was entirely too much fun! And, yes. That was a mullet. It was the 80s. We all had mullets. It was just normal. In fact, I don't think I had ever heard the term mullet used in my life until the 90s. That was just how a boy or man's hair was. When I was a little boy in the 80s, I remember when having a rat tail was cool, and I was so jealous that another boy at school had one.

so at the start of the movie, the guy in the green sleeveless shirt and almost afro like dark hair is pro wrestling legend terry funk. guy's a madman, who's seen / done it all. during the 80s, he "retired" [haha] from pro wrestling and tried to follow in other wrestlers' to hollywood. he was in a few movies but in smaller roles like "roadhouse." while he was never a leading man, he helped immensely behind the camera. in the movies he was in, he helped choreograph many of the fight scenes. like with this movie, all the bar fight scenes he helped come up with. he also helped swayze and sam elliot get into character of being a cooler, and the other actors of being bouncers- as he was once both himself. the movie's called "roadhouse" because the director originally wanted to call the movie "roundhouse blues," after the song by the doors- as well as feature the song. the surviving members said no, because all of the film's violence and gore. so the director called the movie just "roadhouse" instead and then used a cover version of the song [sung by healey's band]. the joke of "roadhouse" in family guy: swayze used a lot of roundhouse kicks in the movie. roundhouse, sounds like "roadhouse." because peter's stupid, he said "roadhouse" instead, thinking it was the same thing.

I love this movie. It's a fun, over the top film that was released just two years after Dirty Dancing. Jeff Healey was such a talent, and his role in this fil was spot on. You may laugh at the cassette tape player he had in his car, but my first car had an 8 track player in it. Yeah, I'm old ... When I was first watching this movie back in the day with friends, I went, "Holy crap, that's Terry Funk!" when I saw one of the bouncers. He held quite a few titles along with other family members, and is revered among wrestling fans. Unfortunately, it appears that he is going through dementia in his old age.
