Reefs RC created some excitement when they announced their new drift gyro!! The company has not previously had any drift-specific parts, so this was an exciting new step for them.
Immediately, there was also some skepticism around if this was another gyro just rebranded.
Only 1 way to find out - test it!
In this video, I compare this Reefs RC gyro to the Hackslider Mini and the Futaba GYD550. Is it good for micro drifting, 1/10 scale, or both?

Great video, light color may be partially because I am a bit color blind lol, gotta look out for the peeps. Definitely, not rebranded. Try pairing it with our 299LP Servo for the best results in a 10th Scale Drift application. We posted a video on our channel, good info there. Thanks for sharing.

I just used this gyro with the 299LP, I actually liked it over the yokomo spo2d and v4 combo.

@@bhhamblin just picked up an rtr mst 2.5 was looking for a good gyro and servo combo and not break the bank do you think I will notice the difference btwn stock setup and the lp299 and reefs gyro

Definitely looked better for the mini 👍. I think the guys running minis at my local track all run Futaba 7px/10px so they are running the 550 gyro on everything and Accuvance electronics on their 1/10 cars. Some baller rigs haha. I recently converted my B6.3, Yokomo drift car, and TC to the 4PM. I had the race cars on a 3PV and the drift car on a G7P. The G7P seemed fine but the 4PM runs the car so much smoother. Gyro gain with the G7P doesn't get precise until you set your maximum with end points but it worked. I never knew how helpful servo speed could be on the race cars. The really fast people at the track told me to try turning the steering servo down and it made it so much easier. Then the ATL is so handy to dial in braking power easily

@@RoadsideRC I had the stock mst 2.5 gyro, then Futaba GYD470 but I didn’t care for it. Now this. I’m waiting for the onisiki gyro to come back in stock

I actually was glad to see this test specifically because I saw it on Exocage RC, but he's new to drifting. Being a reputable company, at least for powerful servos, I was curious how good this gyro is.

@RoadsideRC sure was. Seems like a "decent" gyro, but not going to replace my Yokomo V4 gyro. Though, that said, my V4 gyro and my Yokomo V2 servo does that twitchy issue you showed on the 10th scale vehicle. Kind of odd

All of Reefs products are rebranded AGFRC products. Stat for stat. Only difference is the cases get customized. With that said, they are fantastic products, you just pay more for the Reefs branding.

Based on the information I have - yes, it is a rebrand - but that it has some different programming features. So although it may look the same, the functionality will be a little different.

Hi, I have watched other videos of yours and you explain very precisely and clearly. I have been street drifting using Tamiya TT02D 4 wheel drive chassis. I want to try rear wheel drive chassis, but consider a gyro a must. Will I need to buy a programmable transmitter in order to make those adjustment you demonstrated. Many thanks.

Appreciate all your gyro reviews! At around the same price for 1/28 drifting, which one would you choose between the Onsiki Daruma, PowerHD G1, Hackslider Mini or AGFRC v3 (or v3.5?)? Also bought a Dasmikro v5 mini, but haven't received it yet

Can some explain the difference, between a drift specific servo and a normal servo?

Drift specific servo will often have some programmability and dampening in it. Often a higher precision to precisely place the wheels.

Is the reefs Gyro better than the power, hobby G2 I have the G2 it does the job in the shop don’t have too many to choose from in that price range

I would not suggest swapping to this gyro. Keep saving until you can get a truly good gyro.

I ended up buying it. I guess I’ll try tomorrow at the drift track at Cookeville raceway I was just hoping that it may perform a little better than the G2 my plan is to get the 470 drift

Hey dude silly question but how do i make my mst rmx 2.0 have reverse? Do i need to buy a new motor or is it something with the esc or radio? Im new to the industry

I assume you have the MST esc and motor? Reverse is a programmable item in the ESC. Check the manual, it will show you how.

You need a smaller scale track for your micro scale car. Drifting the big obstacles just doesn't work well. Though I liked the vids very informative as always

Are you running the reved RS-St servo? Im buying my electronics now. I have my xd10 esc and D10 motor. Just have to decide on a gyro and servo. I was leaning towards the reved servo and the yokomo gyro but this reefs caught my attention. Is the yokomo worth $25 more?

I do run the ReveD servo - it is my go-to. I would NOT recommend this Reefs gyro. 100% go Yokomo over this one. Then, I suggest Futaba, ReveD, or Onsiki Daruma gyros above the Yokomo.

@RoadsideRC found a onisiki daruma for $59.99 so I think I'm going to snag that up. The onisiki servos look nice too but I will go with reved

@RoadsideRC quick question regarding the ReveD servo. I got mine today and I'm installing it now. I don't have my esc installed yet so I connected the ReveD servo to my race buggie just to center the horn. While it was connected I was testing it to make sure it works. When I was testing it I noticed 2 things that I'm not sure are normal. 1. It wasn't very fast responding at all. But I did read ReveD turns them down and you can turn it up with the programmer. So this issue might resolve itself when I get the programmer. 2nd issue was when you turn full left or right and let go of the wheel and as the servo is coming back to zero you can feel the servo vibrate alot. Almost shaking. My only other reference to servos is in my race cars so I'm unaware if a drift servo acts differently. My pro tek race servos come back to center quickly and quietly. The ReveD servo vibrates alot on the way back to zero and shakes and you can hear the gears. Is this normal? Or did I get a bad servo. I'm tempted to return it ans just use an AGFRC 19kg servo that comes with the programmer for $30 less. Any info you can shed on this is greatly appreciated
