As an engineer, I’m impressed with the level of design/development you guys are capable of for the prices you offer these setups. Most designers with this capability would be designing on a custom-only T&M basis for stuff this involved. Naturally that’d be for top 1% clients only, but somehow this stuff is accessible to mid-career professionals with a car hobby. Props to your team.

I designed and built a offroad suspension almost identical to this 8years ago and competed with it throughout the united states. Competed in Top Truck in California in 2015 and came out the champion with that suspension. It had 16" of travel and that cantilever design is unreal how it reacts and creates almost no body roll. Look it up

@@maristoldboys5466 I've had it for many years and after rebuilding the engine and transmission myself many times to squeeze as much as I could get out of it I got tired of the oe setup and decided to swap out the old engine and tranny combo for a 5.0 from a 94 gt.I added a rod and custom coil over kit with rack and disk brakes. I have a cobra irs to add to the rear. This was in my late 20s and then the kids came along and the car is now on the back burner .Classic old car story there for ya... 😆. I'll finish it some day for sure though.

Man, that looks amazing...and amazingly expensive. You'd think that everything would be assembled with non-locking hex nuts as it's all going to be blown apart for paint/powder coating.

That rear suspension looks suspiciously similar to Mike Maier’s pushrod rear suspension he came up with like 10 years ago…Only they’re actuating control arms instead of a live axle. I’m sure it’s different enough to not be a patent infringement if Mike even patented the design, but jeez Louise, the similarities are kind of hard to miss.
@RoadsterShop
@RoadsterShop Жыл бұрын
Pull/push-rod suspension or cantilever suspension has been around for decades. Nothing 'new' or patented. Check out some of the early-mid-70's Gordon Murray F1 cars for Brabham. This setup you see here is actually a version based on our IRS cantilever setup we build for 'RAMPAGE' back in 2012.

RoadsterShop is right dude.....this suspension setup predates Maier's incarnation....which he himself (Maier) basically copied from some stuff in the 50's. There's only so many ways to do it, ya know?

Honest question. With the development of these fine chassis and suspension, along with other aftermarket upgrades such as brakes and new sheetmetal body panels available. Is it still necessary/cost effective to start with an actual original mustang?

is this is a custom one off ladder frame chassis & suspension modification for the classic Mustang . . . more videos of vehicles that are actually being built by Roadster Shop, than your podcasts would be much appreciated . . . if I'm correct you make bespoke ladder frame chassis for classic body-on-frame vehicles from the yester years . . . please advise . . .

Do you have to use the cantilever setup for the IRS on the 69-70 Mustang, Reason being won't that put the shocks in the trunk, Which would be no buono for me as I want maximize the trunk space But would still like to run an IRS. Planning on doing a 70 Mustang styled like a Boss 429 with a supercharged coyote engine

We do offer powder coat as an option, but often we ship raw assemblies to builders who are still working on their projects and will finish the chassis later on as the project becomes complete.

Did you see him fold the cotter pin over the top of the castle nut for the ball joints?? No thanks…..I’ll find some other Mfg who knows how to build the right way! 😂
@theephemeralglade1935
@theephemeralglade1935 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly how we did it in the Air Force. If you bend the cotter pin around the circumference of the nut, you have oriented the cotter pin in its weakest direction with regard to a shear force. The correct way keeps the two leaves of the cotter pin perpendicular to the shear force. He did it the way you SHOULD be doing it.

Overkill on a futile appliance. Surely these techniques could be (are being) applied in aeronautics or F1, but catering to old rich farts so they can have a 30 min blast every year is a waste of time. Business plan wise stop it, and please focus on going to the Mars man!
