My folks bought an RV in 2000. They lived on the road visiting every state and all National Parks for 2 & 1/2 yrs. At the time, I thought they were crazy, but for yrs now, I realized I was wrong. Filled with beauty and freedom! Would be great to do! Cheers guys 💗

Great video; I'm not a nit picker. I love all the shots of your Airstream gives me a idea of what ours looks like going down the road. We use ours mostly to go to different ren faires. This year will be longest we've stayed in our 22' Airstream Safari which will be late summer, & that will be 5 days in a row. I'm glad to see the both of you made the most of your time with your 22' Bambi. Thanks again for a great video.

I think your math was off. $5000 a year for camp grounds / 365 days is around $14 a day, not $1.40.

Very interesting video. You gave some good advice and pointed out a few things to watch out for. But I would warn anyone watching this video that your total costs are irrelevant to anyone today. Even if your trip is only a year ago due to inflation it may as well be a decade ago. With today's price for trailers, trucks, gas and food the total is basically doubled. Your timing was incredible. You are very lucky!

Last summer, I travelled to Yellowknife round trip from Toronto ON, about 10,000KM totally in one month, cost about 3000US$ for gas! Only stayed in RV Park in 8days. Cost about 500$ for camping grounds fee. I drove a BMW X5 SUS to tow a 17F NoBo travel trailer.

Looks as if you were fortunate regarding repairs . We did 45 000 KM x canada and back via the USA. Needed to replace bearings, springs, and truck services, including tire replacements . There were other more minor repairs, but they do add up. These should be budgeted for.

You were very lucky to have stayed under 22k net cost. You bought and sold at the right time and traveled during the peak of the pandemic when gas was cheaper. Plus you were able to perform your own upgrades. Today it would probably cost 50% more. Great use of resources!

Well, I'm glad you recognized how lucky you got, selling a depreciating asset for MORE. Also interesting that you only did this for one year and sold everything to recoup expenses... I would have thought if you enjoyed it, you would have kept it for future trips. For someone who wants to live full time in a camper and not sell the stuff after one year, do you think it is fair to say that If you didn't sell the camper and truck and assuming the cost of the truck and RV would be spread across 7 years, that would have added another $10k/year to the cost?

Here is a useful tip. If you can't find a dump station, pull over on the side of the highway and open the black water tank. When you drive by the same area in about a year, the grass and vegetation in the area will be a little greener. Come on now, who hasn't done this? Doesn't the bear shit in the woods?

On any trips we made it was boondocking all the way the first trip was with 2kids it was great uncle Doug grandma viv and great grandma winny first problem was that as with most campers they are designed for mom dad and 2kids of one sex we worked around it this dinning area was one bed over the cab was another king size bed non of us adults could share a bed but the u shaped dinenet didn't need the table to make a bed so we put the table on the front seats but it had quite a slope to the back of the seats so 2 socket sets one on each seat leveled it off girl had a bed grandma on the double bed dinnet great grandma on a 2 foot camp cot in the hallway the over the cab bed was 6 ft wide and 7 foot 6 high from wall to wall great uncle Doug and the great nefew at his head the only modification was the water tank took up 2/3 of the storage space so I removed it and hung it under the floor great trp the next summer we went on another trip but we were even more gluten for punishment 4 boys and 1 girl all under 8 years and all ADHD we stopped at a lot more park's great place to boondock in the evening we pulled up next a park let the kid's out to play while we made supper after we ate we put the kids to bed and after final clean up we went to bed 2 days befor we left we knew we had a serious problem with bed space since I can build I removed the wasted cabinet at the back between the closet and the bathroom it was a box 4 ft between the closet and the bathroom 30 inches deep and 8 inches wide using scrap plywood I had we removed the aluminum sheeting from the back of the camper and the window a 2x2 ran side to side under the window we bought a peice of 4x4 box beam and with some scap 2x6 u chanell extended the frame we then added a 4 ft extention to the back of the motor home that added 2 beds we loaded up including some advertising signs for telus mobility and headed out first night out we used the telus signs to sheet the roof addition and next night we finished the clearance lights we called it our red neck camper but we had proper beds for all the adults put the girl on the kitchen table on the seat and the boys on the bed over the cab worked great great trip for those who must have a plan and a schedule our style of camping would drive them crazy as we list out our basic trip and if we see a brochure on something interesting it's off we go if we arrive at our next planed stop a day or two latter Owell we saw or did more than we had planned at the museum in Rocky mountain house we found advertising for the ghost town of Nordeg and the mining museum there mom said our dad had worked there so off we went our one extra stop on our first trip our second trip was mostly go to one of our planned stops see and add and off to that new stop we found out about the Mudderwell homestead museum so added it after we visited some relatives on the way we saw a sign Dysart and Cupar Dad grew up there so off we went to find some relatives and some family history another great trip now the kid's are grown up and have kids so this next trip will be different just my sister and I in different camper a lot more boring a lot less stressful a whole lot more relaxing and best of all no itineraries we're going west to see my aunt

It's not that much but, there is a lot that goes into maintenance and repairs. There is also the issue with space availability. There is not enough camp grounds for all the campers. The people who want to live on the road, travel and see the country combined with the fair weather campers, those who depend on RV life to live have a very difficult time finding available spaces at RV camping lots.
