No doubt. When I first moved here in 98 people cruised Williamson.. There was always people walking up and down too

And nothing that was happening with cruising on Williamson holds a candle to the crap that is happening everywhere today. Drugs, stealing, robbery, vandalism. Williamson might not have been completely G rated, but was definitely harmless fun in comparison.

I remember my elementary school at the very beginning because I went to round Hill elementary up until 2nd grade. The area we used to live in over in Northeast with middle class but now it looks like the ghetto.. I couldn't believe how it changed between 1975 and 1997.. then it started looking like the ghetto when I drove past there in 2015. I can't believe that whole area just went straight to hell and I don't know why..

Roanoke as a whole is a depressing dump. Downtown is dangerous as a bigger city without any of the good stuff of a big city. And then you have to deal with the stuck up folks of Salem....

You should have seen it in 1970 to 1975 or even in 1980.. we had hardly any crime at all and since the late '90s are about 2001 our crime rate has just gotten so high and it's worse than Richmond and we're a smaller City.

I went to summer school at Fleming in 74.

Exactly because most areas in Roanoke are trash right now. My parents moved over to Queen Avenue in 1969 in Northeast and it was a middle class neighborhood back then. I moved in an apartment building up the street from us at the end of the Street in 1973 and everybody in the neighborhood was up in arms about it because they knew it was going to lower the value of their real estate. It got a lot worse than that!!! My parents separated in 1974 so they sold the house and they lost nothing.. drove past that house in that area in 1997 and it looked like a rundown hell hole. It looked as bad or worse than Northwest!! I couldn't believe it. I drove down there again in 2015 and it was just ghetto looking. I don't know if people own and can't take care of the property because they're poor or if they're rentals. It's just awful looking and of course the city doesn't keep up the streets and there are big potholes in the road because it's a poor area.

hahah Exactly! I've had jobs commuting into downtown Roanoke and out of all the places I've lived the only place where I've been physically threatened (by females nonetheless) multiple times is the parking garage downtown. Roanoke sucks b/c the vast majority of the population sucks. Judgmental, arrogant, backwards, gossipy. That's Roanoke in a nutshell.
