The fact that this house still stands amidst the National Harbor casino extravaganza is amazing. I would have thought politicians would have been bought out in order to raze the house and build more hotels. I'm glad to see it's still there.

The 1920s reached a zenith of craftsmanship in architecture that we will never again achieve. Even modest homes built in this time displayed a deep understanding of perfect proportion.

Really love the whole esthetic of this mansion . Tastefully constructed!! A very large home I like the arrears where the columns are Porticos I believe. The staircase to the upper levels is done beautifully also. I am very glad this home has been upkept and maintained and nothing terrible became of it . A truly lovely estate👌❤️😊🇨🇦🇨🇦

That iron balustrade really caught my eye. It's a blessing that this house went from one great owner and passed on to two other entities who appreciated it so well. The marble floors must have helped keep the home cool in the summer. That bathroom was really fine, especially the shape of the bathtub.

That is a lot of house! With hosting dignitaries and their staff, I suppose it made sense. I like the style, and am glad it has been preserved. I do love me a library with quality wood paneling (as opposed to the 1970s "stick-on" stuff) and a fireplace. I visited Oxon Hill/National Harbor for a conference in 2019, and was told that many warehouses and old buildings along the waterfront had been torn down for a major tourist venue. We went on to Old Alexandria afterward, so we didn't visit this place, though I may have seen it. The Walrus Oyster and Ale House near the Harbor had some heavenly crab cakes. :)

I think my favorite room was just that simple upstairs bedroom though the whole house is outstanding.

Some of the photos make the house seem very cluttered. Drawing room looks alright but not other areas seem crowded. Nice kitchen.

I agree with other comments... that staircase is beautiful. But notice Sumner must have been part "pack rat", as some of the rooms were very cluttered?! 🤔

This house is pretty on the outside but the clutter inside ruins it for me. It would be so much prettier if it was “cleaned up”.

The kitchen was interesting, but the rest of the house looks like one of the many flea markets in my small midwestern town. Not a house I would want to live in.
