The Matrix Resurrections (The Matrix 4) is, in my opinion, the worst movie sequel ever created. Not the worst movie but easily the most insulting sequel to ever hit screens. The original trilogy is iconic for a reason. It shaped action films for a generation. It gave us amazing characters. It had extremely memorable action with top-notch choreography. This new movie removes all of that and instead focuses on a stupid story with meta commentary as the primary driver. There have been a lot of theories as to why this movie turned out the way it did but none of them honestly matter. At the end of the day, The Matrix Resurrections is terrible. It lacks the appeal and craft of the original. I hate this movie from top to bottom and for the next 40 minutes, I tell you exactly why!

When audiences walked out of the theater in 1999 after seeing The Matrix, they actually started questioning reality. It made us think. It forced us to question our preconceived ideas of the world. Bravo Hollywood. They are capable of making great films. They just forgot how.

I honestly think Keanu is such a genuine guy that he came back to help out the casting as if you dig into it.. WB wanted a ANOTHER sequel for YEARS. They eventually got ONE of the Wachowski bros/sisters… to finally give in.. and ironically it seems it was INTENTIONALLY messed up on purpose. In the sense that WB said they were making another instalment with or without the original directors and cast, including the fight choreographer (which STILL didn't return - evidently) … so it was like “ ok, if you stfu I’ll make this one more movie, but audiences will hate it and we are going to make it align heavily with our values(woke)” … and that’s exactly what we got. You know they're just itching to replace John with a girl boss at this point and as soon as Tom Cruise retires...Top Gun: Mary Sue, goes into production. The daugjter Mavrick didn't know he had. I believe this 100%. I bet returning actors were told whats up too. I think the start of the movie is meant to show how it feels to be strong armed into making a sequel that is far past due and unneeded. The movie itself is also exactly the type of sequel to tank any hope of a sequel. Leaving only a reboot on the table. This should but the sisters time to outlive any crap reboots 😂

I get the situation with WB, but either say "no" and walk away or buckle down and write/cast/make a legitimate effort. But if we're honest, the Matrix franchise was 1 great movie, some spectacular lore and a few interesting scenes spread across 3 more films a video game and "The Animatrix" 😕

I thought we all understood the movie was deliberately made bad to kill the franchise and prevent WB from using it again. The Matrix narrative started with 1 and ended with Revolutions. There was no need to make a 4th one. The Wachowskis simply went: "These are my toys, you are not going to play with them" and I fully stand behind them. The Matrix was theirs, not WB

I remember going to theaters to watch Revolutions with my best buddy back in 2003, the first movie that I ever saw it twice in theaters. I was 13. Gee, I actually remember my parents taking me to see the first movie back in 1999, when I was 9 years old! Such fond memories. The world created by the Wachowski's has always been very dear to me. So when I was finishing my shift at the movie theater I used to work in and my younger sister showed up so we could see Ressurections a few minutes later during the last days on 2021, I had some expectations. Two and a half hours later, I was in shock. 25+ years worth of fond memories had been utterly annihilated. I remember thinking that somehow they managed to create some sort of pretentious b*llshit meta commentary where it was not needed, to dilute everything that was interesting in terms of worldbuilding to the point of being almost unrecognizable, while also including those vapid and nonsensical topics of modern politics, so commom in movies nowadays. I wasn't even angry. Let's say I was disappointed.

So about the action in "The Matrix Resurrections." The reason why the action was so bad in it compared to the first 3 The Matrix movies is because the first 3 Matrix movies had one man involved that was not involved in "The Matrix Resurrections": Yuen Wo Ping. Yuen Wo Ping, a renowned action filmmaker from Hong Kong, played the central role in shaping the action sequences of the original trilogy. Contrary to some misconceptions spread by certain KZfaq commentators, it was Yuen Wo Ping, not the directors and choreographers of the John Wick series, who orchestrated the action in the original Matrix trilogy. Yuen Wo Ping, known as one of the greatest action filmmakers in film history, was the mastermind behind those iconic action scenes. For whatever reason, he was not brought back for "The Matrix Resurrections" and that is why the action scenes suffered so much. Yuen Wo Ping's influence extends far beyond The Matrix series. In the late 70s, he made his directorial debut with two martial arts films starring Jackie Chan - "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" and "Drunken Master" - which were instrumental in launching Chan's movie career into stardom. Additionally, Yuen Wo Ping discovered Donnie Yen in the 80s and mentored him in action filmmaking. Donnie Yen, famous for his role as Ip Man in the Ip Man movies and known by general audiences in the West as Chirrut in Rogue One and Caine in John Wick 4, learned all of his action filmmaking craft under Yuen Wo Ping's guidance. And that's not all. He also served as the action director and choreographer for Jet Li's "Once Upon A Time In China" movies, which propelled Jet Li to stardom in Asia. Furthermore, he worked on "Fist of Legend," a remake of Bruce Lee's "Fist of Fury," which not only is one of Jet Li's best movies but also caught the attention of the Wachowski siblings when they were seeking an action director for "The Matrix." It is "Fist of Legend" that convinced them to get Yuen Wo Ping. In fact, there's a little easter egg in "The Matrix Resurrections" around the 24-minute mark. In the middle of that montage of Keanu Reeves speaking with the other video game developers, Reeves is seen doing some martial arts in his apartment before falling down. Well, while he's doing that there is a movie playing on his TV in the background. That movie is "Fist of Legend"! It's an obvious tribute to Yuen, considering his work on the first 3 Matrix films. Though it is a bit ironic that they snuck his movie in there, but didn't bring him back to work on this new installment. As you can see, Yuen Wo Ping's influence on action cinema runs deep, but it's a shame that his name isn't on everyone's lips more often. The people responsible for John Wick learned what they know working under Yuen Woo Ping's guidance while doing on "The Matrix" trilogy, carrying that expertise forward to create their own movies like John Wick. People should know who he is because Yuen Wo Ping is not only the reason why the action in the first 3 Matrix movies were of high quality, but also the quality of his work throughout the decades launched the careers of action greats like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen and also greatly influenced and inspired countless action filmmakers from the East to the West. It is essential to recognize and appreciate his contributions to the industry, as countless action directors and stars, from East to West, owe him a big "thank you" for his work and inspiration. The man's name is Yuen Wo Ping. So please, know his name. He deserves the gratitude and respect.

Your original review for this film is what brought me to your channel. The Matrix deserved so much better than this, and I'm also convinced that Lana is intentionally destroying the franchise. The video game angle was completely wasted potential. Morpheus and Agent Smith felt like cheap knockoffs. Keanu is clearly too old to do kung fu, so he just lazily force pushes his way through the film. The "Analyst" broke the fourth wall in the worst possible way by actually mentioning "bullet time," and he was a literal plot exposition machine any time he was on screen. The amount of inserted clips from the first film plus their pathetic attempts at reimagining these classic scenes only reinforced how much better the first film actually was. Then on top of everything else, the most cliche thing ever to throw in a Matrix film, zombies!! Please just STOP already Warner Brothers, let this franchise die now.

Well thank you Adam for saving some of us who have not seen this movie, I unfortunately saw this movie with my friend on Max (at the time HBO Max) back in early 2022, this movie had no idea what this movie wanted to do or be. Lame ass fight scenes, dragged on scenes that made me miserable, Neil Patrick Harris, Barney himself, god I could not with his character being the new architect. Never again will I watch this abomination. And from the looks of it Keanu did not want to be there at all, but you know what's a better movie to watch him in...Man of Tai Chi.

I couldn't even finish this movie and I'm someone who enjoyed the trilogy very much. After falling asleep an hour into it the first time and then falling asleep again 30 minutes later the second time, picking up from where I left off, I just gave up on finishing the movie. Truly disappointing for those who liked or loved the trilogy. Great rant Adam! Very entertaining as always.

Blatant cash grab and unwanted sequel. In all honesty... We should treat it as that "Straight to DVD" sequel we saw at Walmart bargain bins in the 2000s. Right next to other memorable titles such as 'American Psycho 2', 'TimeCop 2', and of course... 'Universal Soldier 2 & 3'.

There's more than a lot of evidence that the brothers stole the original screenplay from a un copyrighted writer who was trying to sell it. That would explain why the first movie was great and the other three were more or less carbon copies. I just have to laugh at the climatic scene when the people are hurtling out the windows as if they were trying to escape the movie.

A cosplay re-enactment, is a perfect way to describe the opening scenes of the film. That eventually leads into a videogame summary version of The Matrix. You know how videogames based on movies work. They somewhat resemble the films, and some things are familiar. They often have cutscenes taken from the movie. However, it's not really a movie in itself. It's just a bunch of missions, where the goal is to interact & get through the scene, so you can trigger the next cutscene and move on to the next mission.

I liked it. 😂 Honestly, from what I recall I was 'ok' with it. I saw it for free on Max when it was available, so I had nothing to invest but the time to watch it with LOW expectations. Your problem is that you believe there was this "perfect trilogy" of Matrix films. There was ONE good movie. The first one. The fact that Resurrections kind of takes a meta dump on the last two movies is perfectly fine with me, because to me those were as horrific as you think this film is. So bad in association, in fact, that they destroyed whatever was good about the first film. So, yes: Resurrections might as well exist. 😂

Far from perfect. I actually did not like Revolution when I saw it in theaters. I very much softened on it over the years. Mostly because I came to terms with the direction they decided to go. I still hate all the Zion shit but Agent Smith carries that film for me. The trilogy, as a whole, is still very much enjoyable and feels like a completed trilogy. This 4th thing is absolutely awful though.

"The Wachowski Brothers have a pretty good track record with movies. The Wachowski Sisters? Not so much." CRYING, lmao. I was hoping Adam would throw at least 1 joke in here about it. It unironically does explain quite a bit about where this went wrong. The priorities were clearly to making something cool & unique when they were men. Those priorities transitioned quite a bit once they did.

What would have saved the Matrix Resurrections? If they where wise enough to show the first Neo and thats non other than Johnny from "The Room". The first Matrix creation of the engineer but Johnny realized the world he lived in was a lie, where it all crashed down after he accidentally glitched Lisa when he porked her in the wrong hole. Imagine how the Ressurections would have been better when Johnny and Neo joined together as friends to finally truly free humanity

The biggest problem with Resurrections is not that it's just a bad movie. It is an offensive movie. It is an insult to all that came before (yes, even the original sequels!), and a middle finger to fans. The W Twin responsible for this abomination should retire in shame. Other than that... 😂

The Matrix was always about the schizophrenic post-modern condition. You have a boring, pointless daytime life and an exciting, meaningful nighttime life. The fantasy of the the Matrix is, holy shit, the exciting, meaningful fantasy life is actually the real life! Not only that, the boring, pointless daytime life can be taken over and controlled by the fantasy life! None of the sequels grasp why the first movie was so appealing. Especially to post-modern people, with our ennui and malaise and other French words.

I lost track of the number of times I watched The Matrix. Did not like the second because it felt like they focused on looong fight choreography and less time on the story. The third was brutally complicated and the ending felt emotionally like the ending for Lost. I was really excited and hyped about the trailer for the 4th but wished I had skipped it. The concept could've worked but the story turned out to be a hot mess with a reboot of almost every beloved character. I'm sure someone will try to milk a 5th movie.

It wasn't Matrix Resurrections, it was as you said Matrix Regurgitations (that was exactly what I said to my friend as well after watching lol). The story was shit, boring characters with the film trying to hopelessly relive the trilogy's glory days. And to make matters worse, even the fight scenes which should have at least been moderately entertaining was totally uninspiring. In the end, I refuse to accept this film as canon.
