Yeah I was going to say.. having nice shelves is kind of a big class denominator/disposable income thing. Especially when you are living in a house with no inbuilt shelving, as is often the case when renting. It can be expensive to not only have nice things but then the money to be able to display them nicely. My partner and I are only just now in a position financially to be able to buy appropriate shelving after over 6 years together, both in our 30s. It's just Ikea stuff, but prior to that it was whatever we could get for free that friends or family no longer wanted. The not enough shelving curse has plagued us for years and it is so nice to finally have dedicated spaces to put things, rather than just shoving things whenever they will fit.

Sometimes double shelving is unavoidable Daniel. My book buying will always outnumber my shelf buying, plus my house is too small for more shelves. I am totally with you on the funko-pop nonsense and mixing video games.

I'm a functional guy and one of the biggest fights my wife and I ever got in was when she unpacked our books and arranged them on our shelves by appearance. Then I went back and alphabetized them and she was livid at how ugly the shelves were now. I didn't have a response.

Some of these are actually really inspiring, and I kind of want to buy physical copies of my entire digital library (if I end up broke I'm blaming you goblin king). Although, first I need a new bookshelf... I had a really nice antique, but it got RUINED in my family's latest move. All my book are homeless, floating around in the abyss of my room *dramatic sniff* I'll probably never see some of them again (it's like trying to keep a pair of socks together in the wash but worse).

Just stumbled upon this and holyyyyy the quality content it is!! It makes me reminisce over the five shelves I had to throw out (I moved places), resulting in me having all my books everywhere in the new house (ie. drawers, boxes, floor, kitchen counter, couch). It’s a mess but, it’s an organized mess ;))

Same disclaimer than Daniel made: Do NOT take this seriously, your shelves are great. Third shelf of the video (3:10), you've split up the Eragon series and put the fourth book into another square than the other 3, even though there is free space in the square with the 3 other books! I must say I like double stacking as long as it’s done well. My grandparents had a large basement where all walls were covered with bookshelves. A lot of them were double stacked because there was no other way for them to fit all of their books in their home.

I actually agree though, I would have Serious doubts if the person I was to marry disliked my books enough to demand that I put away half of them. like... what? if you're not joking, get out. I married someone who shares my love of books. we have hundreds, and many times we buy them just because they're pretty. what kind of marriage are they signing up for, if who they are as a bookworm is already being made to be put away? You're signing up for a lifetime of being shamed for liking books, a fight every time you buy too many books, which apparently is a very small number... I don't know anyone who got divorced because of books, but this might be one of them

Reminder to everyone playing along at home: when you buy a bookshelf at Walmart or Target or Ikea, you get what you pay for. It's made of particle board. And because they don't have any cross bracing, the shelves will bow under the weight of your books. Also, if you take a beautiful, solid wood bookshelf home so you can paint it to resell, you're a monster.

You would hate seeing my bedroom lol The whole room is a bookshelf - I have 2 shelves with excessive nick-nackage, but then a desk pile, night stand pile, floor pile, and at least 15 books scattered across the floor

Actually noticed that if the second one does put the books upright it won't all fit like that. Some of the shelves aren't tall enough or very tall and able to hold more books on their sides than upright. Plus it creates some extra space for future books!

My book shelf is so small and I don’t have room to get a bigger one. But my parents and me are redoing my room completely so I’m thinking about asking for a better shelf and a bunch of new books with their help and of course some of my money that I have. I’m really into fantasy/romance at the moment but I can’t seem to find a good book. Anyway I’m writing a 19 chapter story and seeing this video for some reason makes me want to get up and start writing more of chapter 4. OVERALL, great video and I love the enthusiasm and complete roasts as you call them keep up the good work a new subscriber has been born what will she see or face who knows join the journey of watching this channel.

i have an great uncle who had so many books that he bought a separate house (a small one but still literally another house) and turned it into a library. not a room, A LITERAL HOUSE. most of it was nonfiction but there were so many of them that a good amount of them were fiction that i liked

Lol my shelf is pretty bare since I just do an unhaul and gave my sister a bunch of books. The fact that I have also transitioned to reading on my Kindle makes me very picky about what sits on my shelves. But this video was GOLD😂🤣

When I was a teen I appreciated the boxes of books in my mothers boyfriends attic/loft. There were good books in about 5 boxes. But that's only good for random fiction. Back in the 1980s... I have to roast my own library! 2.5 barrister book shelves, 15 regular book shelves, mostly unfinished pine. Mostly old books but some new. Organized according to why I bought them. Very little fiction, maybe a shelfs worth from 2 different collections/bibliography's... IMHO
