A look at how the dagger moves in correlation to your sword when going on the offense. It is not enough to simply attack your opponent and leave it to luck that you will not be hit in return. This goes against the concept of the "masterful strike". In this video I show you my own practice of the Adaptive Dagger Offense; how my dagger works in coordination with the offensive sword.

Very helpful insights as always! I'm immediately reminded of WIng Chun concepts, and the argument that the hand techniques of that art may have been modeled off swords.

While I can't speak authoritatively where those forms came from, it would not surprise me to learn that was the case.

Thanks for the ideas! But what if, for example at 2:11, my opponent uses his dagger to attack me on my unguarded side? Would my best choice be making a step backwards?

Assuming you are talking about your opponent using their dagger to attack the unguarded left side, there are two things that prevent this. The first is the measure that exists between the two of you. If you are operating with good measure then an attack to the opposite side with a shorter weapon isn't feasible due to lack of reach. The second is that it would further require the opponent to step forward to reach you with that dagger, which is an entirely different tempo. Unless you plan to stand still during that next tempo your opponent cannot close with you because you get an action in that tempo as well.

I wonder if the edge on edge "stickiness" would be more beneficial for holding the opponents blade with your dagger enough to land your thrust instead of not making contact with your dagger to avoid a faster reaction from your opponent.
