My wife and I often talk about that scene where Sam is told he'll be president someday. They could do a show right NOW where he is president as Sam and it'd be exactly the right timeframe.A west wing next generation, if you will.I'd watch that!

Just trying to create a time line for Sam being President. Lets just say that Sam was Deputy Chief of Staff for President Santos first term. But then he runs for Congress or Senate instead of sticking around for Santos' second term. So a few terms of lets say Senator before he makes a run at the Presidency. Since the Presidential elections are off kilter in TWW he runs for Presdient in the 2022 or 2026 election.

West Wing was one of my mother's all time favorite shows. She passed in 2019, and now I'm binging the show, and it's like she's watching it with me. It's one of the great iconic shows of all time, in my opinion, just like Strombo said. It will go down with the Honeymooners, All In The Family, Sopranos, etc.

I'm currently watching The West Wing for the first time.... and coincidently had just watched the episode where Sheen tells Lowe he'd make a great president too. Even before the scene Lowe's character shows Presidential Idealism... just like Sheen. I'm in awe of how smart the characters are to the point that it makes me want to rip open a history book. Some critics thought the show was unrealistically optimistic. While I thought that if the Whitehouse was not run that way.... then this show sets a great example both morally and ethically on how it should and could be run. Aaron Sorkin did all of us Americans a favor in creating it.

Loved it during the original airing, love it still. We've binge watched it on Netflix 2 or 3 times. My favorite moment is when the President dresses down the radio "doctor." The perfect look in his eyes when he says, "When the President stands, NOBODY sits..." Another is when Abby says, "Well, just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong!"

There are so many lines. Two of my favorites, "Oh, and when you're asked when I decided to kick your ass, it's when you said, 'Crime, boy I don't know'" (or something like that), and the other one is when Stockard Channing says about the body man Curtis, "I just like to watch him eat a pie" (or something like that). There are so many great lines, moments of expression, etc., but these are 2 that really stand out for me.

Love The West Wing! Watched when it first ran and I’m binging it now. Mrs. Landingham’s death always hits hard. And Leo’s heart attack! Great show that kind of predicted the Obama administration, in Matt Santos’ story: The minority dark horse candidate that becomes the Democratic front runner. He even talks about hope!

When you listen to Rob Lowe talk about how nobody has a clue what they were going through as friends/mentors/neighbors and competition to each other on the basketball court you have to think about another clip of Rob talking about how "Martin is this guy who lives 4 doors down from me so I just see him as a regular guy" and the whole other side of Martin is the one that Rob talks about is this guy that He grew up around so as much as he was "Martin Sheen, Actor as all of fandome knows him" He also was Martin Sheen, struggling father and alcoholic for a good part of the 1980s in Rob's mind. It gives you a clue how much admiration that Rob had for Martin's choices in his life that he made that Rob pursued sobriety shortly after Martin did but I also don't doubt that Rob's life was affected by Martin's struggles so to hear Rob talk about seeing himself in his 19 year old son you can imagine Rob's heart about Martin's life in a former life. It is similar I am guessing to how messed up most 19 year olds feel to watch Rob/Brad Pitt/Emilio/Demi Moore etc generation dealing with loss.
@AnneLiesveld
@AnneLiesveld 10 жыл бұрын
Ok I saw online on Wikipedia what it talked about was more of the reason why Rob left because I couldn't figure out what they meant when they said that Rob wasn't treated well (or Rob said that) but I realized (since I never watched the show at all) that Rob was supposed to be more of a lead character and it was more orientated as a venue for Martin Sheen to show off his acting skills. but it said like that like Rob was out acted by the talented cast and you have to wonder if maybe Sorkin/Schlamme felt like he wasn't the top of the cast talent wise and acted accordingly or did they just adjust his schedule as they focused more on Bartlett. I just can't imagine the blowing off Rob but I feel like I am missing something. Did he just get eliminated from lines on the show?

What I particularly love is that I actually find myself understanding it more and more with every reviewing. The pace is crazy fast (in the first 4 years) and as an engineer, I'm just not in any way attune to the bizarre world of Washington. BTW, the president doesn't hug him in that scene. But it is one of my favorites. Another BTW, I'm sorry, but many folks here are being charitable with season 5, 6, and 7. The writing and directing spanned the spectrum from "meh" to dismal. I rewatch up to the end of season 4 and say "I'm done for now", only to find myself restarting with 1-01.

I have been a Republican all my adult life. That being said although I disagreed with some of the policies they pursued in this show I love this show. It is one of if not the greatest political dramas of all time. I still from time to time take out the dvd set I bought and binge watch it. Even in today's polarized climate. As one of the people commented below, if we could get the same level of writing I would love to see Sam Seeborn as President with perhaps Josh as a cabinet member or VP or some other main role beyond COS. Charlie as well I liked his character arc and they set him up pretty well to be a main player in government. Toby could be a good unofficial advisor.

Yep. Let's reboot the West Wing with Sam Seaborn as President. I think Leo's daughter Mallory should be First Lady. There was always a lot of chemistry between them and she would be great. Charlie needs to be a senior staff member and of course Josh has to be Chief of Staff with his wife Donna as a another senior staff member. Have the former President (Santos) involved in the plot somehow. It could be another incredible show. But you would have to have the same writers. The writing was really the key to the whole thing.
@BigTulsa

Rob Lowe portrayed Sam, the bumbling genius, perfectly and really made the character likable. He was my favorite character although all of them were marvelous. I would absolutely love to see a sequel to the West Wing with Rob Lowe as president. Sadly, it seems he and the producers did not end things in the most positive terms, so I doubt that would ever happen. Also, we do live in very cynical times, so probably a TV show with such a positive spirit would be considered silly and boring.

WW was brought to my attention by my mother’s high praises. Usually that didno happen, our TV watching didno coincide much. Verr happy to have listened to her this time. Once started I was as deeply smitten as she. While the show was still in production, there was an interview with a real life teacher who described WW as “America’s civics class”. This one is verr sure of that truth. Despite having a strong liberal slant, some opposing views were presented, in particular the episode wherr 2 Supreme Court positions opened up and they nominated one from each wing of the political spectrum. Glenn Close was the liberal, William Fitch was the conservative. Listening to the friendly argument between both candidares was one of the first times it dawned on me the othar side of the aisle had legitimate arguments. Anothar instants was when Ainsley Hayes reversed Sam’s position - and THEN convinced him to turn around. Uttarly unrealistic, I know; but by Jupitar, that’s the way it SHOULD be. To this day, I come across Youtoob vids of moment from the show, like this one, and becomb enraptured all ovar again.

Oooooh. So that's why all the staff was white before Charlie came on to put in diversity. Because they thought they were gonna get Sydney Poitier for the president.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (Admiral Percy Fitzwallace) was a pretty sizable regular on the show as well. Hardly Charlie as the "token black guy", and Fitzwallace was on the show before Charlie.

J T Edson. Ole Devil Hardin. Played I was told in 2 TV movies by Martin Sheen. Rage rage against the dying of all of us of the rather lighter hearted. I have yet to hear a good old fashion belly laugh from POTUS 45. GEORGE see Scot under a table in PATTON discussing how to gain air superiority against the country bombing then Great Britain. Nothing, the Donald? Not even an Eversmile for your New Jerseyians?

It would seem that someone seeking answers on any topic need only go to Rob Lowe. This privileged person is a seeming expert on poverty, romance, marriage, acting, finances, psychology, politics --and most of all, himself, his movies, his book, his popularity--and, of course, his charm and good looks. Yawn.

Rob Lowe is an awful Trump supporter who stole his entire bit from Aaron Sorkin’s one note writing. Love the show but I have no time for this guy

think there was the script and director who told him what to say, do, and act. Just for your information, he was what they wanted....

I may add..on the subject of Rob Lowe...he comes across as BLAND on his recent West Wing interviews...in my opinion...actor without SUBSTANCE...
