In this Vlog episode we stop by the Rip Curl Surf Center in San Clemente to talk about the fin options and versatility of the new Machado Seaside.
Hanging out with James from Rip Curl was a good time as we frothed out talking about different fin set ups and options for the new Seaside.
This new Seaside is EPIC as a Quad and really fun as a Twin Fin!!
The full review drops on the Machado "Seaside" this Monday 12/03/2018. Stay Tuned.....

I had my reservations about the machado quads. They just look foreign to me and I worried that it would be too much fin. I rode my seaside in a few different quad setups but none of them gave me enough drive through turns. I popped in my good old trusty AM large sides with 3.75 flat trailers and that felt really good. Having success with the AM's made me start to think that I could possibly like the machados since it has an even longer base while still having the small trailers for release. I'm so glad that I bought them. I had an amazing session this morning in clean 3ft waves. I was flying down the line and flying through my turns. Snapping off the lip was a breeze, and just had an amazing time out there. The search is over.

Ive got the Seaside already 3 months ago, had some sessions with it and from my experience, the board as a ton of drive but I can’t do really easy turns with it. It holds a lot. Funny to see different reports here than mine. I am going to switch from the quad fins from RM to Twins and see if it gets any better. My other quads are much more loose… I’m 5,10-61kg and my RM is a 5’5”.

I used the AMK's in my seaside for a few sessions and they were good but they made my bottom turns to drawn out for my liking. I picked up the Machado keels and they feel perfect. Like Noel said just as drivey (technically more because they have a larger base), but with more pivot.

Hi Noel, thanks for your insights. I am 5'11 tall with 209lb, intermediate/advanced surfer. Since some weeks ago, i am riding a 5'9 with 38 L, Patterson Devil Fish, with the quad fin settings. I've tried it with the Machado quads, and with the AM Keels on small weak surf. However, i am making a trip to Chicama in Perú, 6 ft faces of solid swell on the forecast. Which setup do you recommend for me? Please if you can give me some in depth advice on why one or the other. Thanks a lot. Cheers!

Hey Noel, did you ever try medium quad sets on this board. Since the bottom contours are a board eat board style, and you found that medium vs large fins made the moonbean magic, I wondered if that same logic would apply to the seaside.
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 5 жыл бұрын
Mark C No I didn’t try a Medium set. My thoughts to try that with the Moonbeam because the board felt a little sticky with a large set, so I went Medium and it fixed that. This Seaside never felt sticky unless I was overpowering it in my turns. Just pushing too hard. The Large fins felt great... I am sure a good set of Mediums will go pretty good too.

I bought a Seaside 5’5 two weeks ago. Had about 5 surfs on it. I'm 5'9 and 11 stone. I’ve got another 2 weeks to swap it for another board from the shop I bought it from if I want to. It grovels ace but over chest high in steeper waves it starts to feel a little less manageable. Perhaps I just need to get used to it but it slid out doing cut backs a couple of times on steeper waves, which I'm not used to happening to me on my daily driver board, (5'9 29.5 ltrs tri fin). I’m using the Machado quads. I probably could swap it out for a smaller one however, in the interest of grovelling and making the 5'5 more versatile, what fins might make it hold better Rastovich quads??, is it just me, or the board size?

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Hi Noel and viewers. Thought I'd get back to you regarding my experiments with the Machado Quad fins in the Cymatic. I have tried them out in head high beach break and chest high point surf. One session choppy, one clean. Normally I ride the cymatic with Hayden rears and control series front fins (Freestone/JJF) - so that's the comparison point. I have to say the Machado quad fins work well. The cymatic is extremely responsive with this set of fins. Heaps of fun and very quick and snappy (and it already is anyway). Probably not suited to more powerful surf though. Surfing equipment is unnecessarily expensive. Used boards are easy enough to get. in the $400 to $300 range .because just like cars surfboards lose their value soon as you drive them off the lot...but as the surfboards get more expensive and the trips get more expensive .surfing turns into a sport of elitist returning to the sport of Kings. but not. Because there are no Kings and I never did believe in royalty
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 5 жыл бұрын
Didymostruespeak True... but one thing to be said about a Firewire if we’re comparing Surfboards to cars.... they are way more durable then your typical PU or EPS constructions that are in the market today. So the resale value stays high and the quality of life still left in the board for the next surfer is excellent. I am a huge fan of buying used boards... that’s how I got my liters dialed roughly 5 years ago. It would have cost me a small fortune buying new boards to find out what liters and DIMS float me best. I was on Craigslist hunting used boards daily trying to work it out. I am a fan of buying used quality fins too.
