Nothing on the internet has ever blown my mind more then this casual conversation .

I’ll never forget when my dad came home from each tour. (5 tours all together) each time more broken, and each time better at hiding it. I was a teenager so back then I didn’t understand what was going on, my dad was just always gone and when he came back it took very little for him to become angry and lash out at us. Flipping the dinner table w/steaming hot dinner on it, waking us up in the middle of the night yelling at us to go underneath our beds, him on the roof w/his gun because a car back fired, my brother climbing in their bed when he had a bad dream and my dad choking him not realizing it was his son he had in his hands and when he noticed all he could is hand my brother to my mom ( I can only imagine his pain in that moment, the fear of who he’s become, thinking he’s a monster). I look back and remember all the things I did during that time as a teenager putting more stress on my dad going through something that would break the average person , something he couldn’t even speak on, a person he was hating he was becoming, I wish I could go back and see what my dad was really going through and be there a little more. I’ll never forget the day he told me my daughter saved his life. The day she was born he held her and he told me that was when he decided to go get help for his mental health because he wanted to be a light for my daughter he wanted to be the best grandpa and he knew he had to rid of all the anger, sadness and fear …. He chose love. Loving her was more important than anything. And that day I knew how much my dad loved me as well. I’m so thankful she brought my dad some peace, We are so hard on our troops But they are fighting battles they had no idea were coming Hey y’all thank you for everyone who showed love and kindness towards my experience and my family. Idk why a lot of the commenters gendered me male, lol but I’m def a woman! To those of you making ill comments and judgment I’m sorry you hold so much hate in your heart, I hope you find peace. I’ve never agreed with war, or killing another life. But despite not always agreeing with all my families short comings I love them always and whole heartedly as no man or woman is perfect and lives without sin. My father, myself and the rest of my family are great! This video pulled at my heart strings and I shared a glimpse and experience of my own life. I hope maybe someone who can relate or shared a similar experience or going through one can find some light in my story. Mental health is so important and often not talked about!
