After two long years I remembered I'd left it at Jamies Bike Shop, and after some thought decided that I probably finish it for nostalgia's sake.
Offers in the Comments below.
Thanks to Jamie for all his help, she's a beauty.

Rob, what an amazing build the bike is beautiful. I still have my ‘96 ATX 970 in the John Tomac colors (yellow and purple) it’s a cromoly frame and my wife has a ‘97 ATX 970 with an alloy frame (off white and polished aluminum). They were good bikes back in the day. I’m glad to see that you’ve resurrected the bike that you won on. I can’t wait to see you ride it. I took mine for a ride a couple years ago off rode and it scared the shit out of me but it did it and wanted more. I’m waiting for my knee replacement to heal up so I can get back riding. I currently ride a 2020 Giant Trance and my wife is on a 2022 Liv Intrigue. I will truly miss your commentary for UCI, you are a legend of the sport and all of us have so much to thank you for!

Proper cool . Great to see the bike restored. Ive just restored my 2000 Cove Stiffee. Managed to find brand new old stock Tioga Factory XC tires . The hardest part was sorting out the ancient seized Hope C2 brakes,,, The seals and parts such as pistons were a pig to source!... I should have contacted your dad!!! PS I will never stop being grateful for you and your encouragement at the Redbull 24 hour at Sandwell Valley where you took me under your wing clearly seeing I had sunstroke and sitting with me under a tree chucking pine cones at riders coming past whilst you were vlogging (was that a thing then?). We even came over the finish line together after you making sure we hid around the last bend so we did not have to go round again before the time elapsed. Always grateful and happy memories spending time with one of my cycling heroes. Love your videos.. Never grow up dude!!
