Yeah im sorry but most of his movies are varying degrees of great......Im sorry you couldn't grasp that H2 was a sequel to his Halloween and not a remake of H2...Or that the story was too hard for you to grasp. But the only OK movies he's made was Lords of Salem and that was because it was more arthouse than horror and 3 From Hell and that had massive problems because of Sid Haig's health it had to be completely rewritten.. Universal more than likely hired him because he can take a small budget and make it look amazing.. Both House and Rejects were made with a 7 million budget and looked alot more expensive. BOTH Halloween movies were made for 15 million each and 1 made 80 million H2 made 70 million. Rob Zombie's 31 was made 6 million Lords of Salem an arthouse movie was made for 1.5 and made 6 million even 3 From Hell cost 3 million and made 6 million NONE of his movies have ever looked cheap and he can make great looking films on minimal budgets

Part of the charm of the original Munsters was their lack of self awareness that they were odd along with their calm, restrained, classiness. This new version seems to depart from all of that, choosing instead to go over the top on all fronts.

I'm always astounded by how much Rob Zombie can miss the point of something he's such a huge fan of. I'm not usually one to just dump on anybody's creative endeavor, especially when I have the choice to view it or not, but every time I see that he's doing another remake, I just quietly and mournfully say "nooooo."

It’s like people getting mad about politics in Star Trek. Love it, hate it, it’s what the show was about. It’s like they only like the idea of trek, not the reality. Same case here. He had his idea of what Munsters was, then filled in the blanks with stuff he made up. It’s very jarring.

It was like Johnny Depp on Dark Shadows. He claimed to be a fan of the soap opera, but decided to make Barnabas Collins a character with weird antics (like his other roles) instead of a intimidating and serious character like Jonathan Frid did. Also the movie itself missed the point of the show because it was not a comedy or a "dark comedy" like Addams Family, but a serious soap opera with supernatural elements.

Eh, I liked Halloween. A completely original take on that of an original IP, that I respect because it does it’s own thing towards Michael and his story of how he became the monster he’s known for. That and also because that may just be the most brutal and terrifying Michael Myers I have ever seen.

The whole premise of The Munsters was that they were a pleasant 50's-style nuclear family who had no idea there was anything remotely odd about them. A lot of the humour came from the reactions of other people and The Munsters being utterly oblivious to the cause of it. Am not seeing much of that in this trailer, it's "wacky monsters" which I can't help feel misses the point a bit.

One of my biggest problems with the trailer is something I haven't seen someone else mention, being that the trailer seems so empty because of the bigger aspect ratio and there also being a maximum of 3 characters on screen at best. Another thing is how there aren't any real character interactions which was like the main point of the show considering it was a sitcom.

What made slapstick shows like the munsters, three stooges, laurel and hardy, little rascals etc. so beloved was the time period they were in. We’re watching them have fun by using what was around them. The time they lived in complimented their tone and they didn’t feel out of place. I believe attempting to “revive” any of these classics needs to include the culture, technology and humanity of their time in order for it to feel believable. Clearly we still cling to these classics for what they portrayed and how they made us feel because we keep trying to recapture it. To peer back in time to what made the world laugh and be amazed at its simplicity is the strength behind its nostalgic immortality.

I couldn't have said it any better myself! Remaking those classic comedies of years gone by is like trying to capture lightning in a bottle -- damn near impossible. "looked like a regular sitcom of the era" Yes, and THE ERA was playing more with reality than playing with fiction, like getting obsessed about canon and lore. That was before every product became so synthetic, and it was before PEOPLE became this synthetic, saying anyone who doesn't go along with it is just "missing the point" You in the modern era don't HAVE the point. "The Point" is not to be obsessively indulgent in escapism, and having laws like needing to clearly define what is an ad and what is "part of the programming". It's this huxleyan nightmare that makes you so disappointed with reality, and so obsessed with the magic of uncaptured nostalgia like it was something that could only exist then. With the same adult self-awareness, those old sitcoms WERE like that, and ARE like that in every other culture.

As a child of the 60s, shows like The Munsters or Adams Family are "part" of me. Rather than compare how well adapted or duplicated this film could be I am more thrilled to see another take on the family, The Munsters. While I am a fan of RZ's work both musically and theatrically, I have found that his interpretations of stories are just that; his interpretations. I'm not a fanboy (or fanoldman) but I do like much of RZ's work. Not at all unwilling to take issue with his work - I found 31 to be a farce but really enjoy The Lords of Salem (ya, I know, both of them are meh to many). So rather than go into this film with an expectation of how accurately the original series has been portrayed in a "feature film", I am just going in hoping to be entertained. Let's be honest - art is subjective.

This brings up a really good point. The original show finished its run when Rob Zombie was 1 year old, meaning he was only familiar with it later in life when it was running in syndicated reruns. As such it looks like he missed the entire satirical element of the show since it was divorced from its own time. Like me watching it in the 80s, all he saw then was a goofy comedy with monsters.

I'm quite a bit younger than RZ, but I get the satire. My mom and grandparents watched reruns of this and the Addams Family for most of my childhood. I'm sure there's a difference between having lived it and having an understanding of it (as I've learned with my kids trying to grasp the 90s culture) but I think it's possible to understand it well enough to do it justice. Of course, that doesn't mean RZ actually got it. I'm just saying, it's possible to have seen it later and still get it and appreciate it.

"It was your standard 60s family sitcom where the family just so happened to be monsters." I feel pretty certain that this is why any reboot of The Munsters is most likely doomed to fail. We lack the cultural frame of reference that made it work in the first place. The original relied on people recognizing the aesthetics and tropes of more straightforward sitcoms from the era, whereas it looks like Rob Zombie is just relying on you recognizing The Munsters. That's a lot less interesting. If it must be rebooted, I think the best approach would be to update that original prompt for the present era, by putting a monster family into something that looks similar to more recent sitcoms like Modern Family and The Office.

I have a theory: There’s some producer making studio demands. Rob probably wants the film to be in Black and White. Then Rob can say “look we need to lose the color, give the fans what they want, it worked for sonic”.

I saw a black and white version of the trailer on Cody Leach's channel and I have a feeling that large sections are meant to be black and white and have been recoloured. The cheap looking colours look very good in black and white, with the kinda washed out and clashing colours bringing out the contrast in greytones. I have a feeling it's gonna be a few days after release before the first fan versions start popping up, after which there's gonna be a scramble to release an official decoloured director's edit.
