You suffered a confidence-crime. It is a classic crime. They play on your faith in the kindness of strangers. I was maybe 19 when I was sent by my mother to the bank to exchange foreign currency back in Zimbabwe. Those days there was no such thing as street money changers. Banks worked normally. So there I was, sitting in the queue and this guy comes and sits next to me. He then asks me what the rate is. I tell him as it was posted on that digital board. He then says he actually had a better rate and maybe we could help each other. I was a good son, eager to help my single, and struggling mother. A good rate would give her more money to use... so I stepped aside of the queue and agreed to trade with the guy. But as I tried to take my rands out of my pocket he was like "Noooo, not here, they don't like us trading here... lol... they hate us not giving them money" (by doing that he made me view the bank as the enemy, amd him as the friend!). Then he beckoned me to walk out of the bank and we went outside by the steps. Again, I tried to take my money out and the guy was like "No no no, not panapa baba... pane ma cameras... let's go across there". I followed him across the road fully trusting him and also trying not to be seen giving him money by the "cameras".🤣 Chibharanzi so... LOL. Across the road we stopped and he said, "OK, une marii?" then I told him how much I had and what I wanted... he took out his money and we calculated together what he was supposed to give me and what I was to give him. He counted the notes while I watched closely then when he was done rolled them, and put a rubber band around the notes and handed them to me. I gave him my rands and he thanked me and casually walked away. I pocketed my portion then started walking home, keeping my hand in my pocket lest thieves steal it after seeing me get money! Something wasn't right... the bundle of notes felt too tight. When he had put the rubber band on he had done it so lightly but this felt extremely tight. Before I even took out the money to see I realized, halfway across the road, that he had swapped the notes he counted with a different bunch. I unwrapped the notes and sure enough, it was 1 $2 note (Zimbabwean $) on the outside, the rest was bond paper. I have never ever recovered my faith nor trust in people since that day. I struggled with thoughts of "But I was nice to him, I have never done him wrong, why did he do this to me". All the way home I was thinking how my mother's heart would break... and when I did get home, it did break when I told her. She knew I was a good son and would not have stolen the money or misused it. We cried together like someone had died. Those days things were so tough at home we were eating porridge for breakfast, lunch and dinner, daily. We were on social welfare. She needed that money to buy supplies for her doilies and crocheted work that she would then sell in South Africa... but I had lost her all of the money. When I see a thief getting caught and being beaten or if I hear one was burned alive I feel nothing. I have serious anger issues that will one day result in me killing one of them if ever one is caught in my house. To the one who robbed me, God will deal with you for all the pain you put us through. I know you probably wasted that money on ho's and drink... you must know we suffered for years as a result. I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants, myself being legal. I do appreciate how SAns feel about illegals, even though I also hate that SAns just paint ANY black non-SAn as a bad person that must get out. But above all these, I hate the blacks that are leading our country, that ZANU PF party. It has shown that it has nothing for us and it has shown it will never have anything for us.

Its a painful story but not unusual even here in SA. It's hard for us to separate foreigners who are in our country legally from those who are here illegally because you guys (those in SA legally) don't reason. We cry for your reasoning like how can so many people hate other people whom have done nothing wrong? And to further complete a difficulty, we share our streets with a huge number of people whom are not SAns yet you guys believe that we hate and unjustly accuse you of wrongdoing. Imagine if majority of foreigners who are here legally were to stand up criticise people entering a country illegally and doing all sorts bad things. You know by doing that the whole picture of being hated would disappear overnight.

@@Sgcuma_Sembo The problem is that foreigners who are here legally fear retaliation from South Africans. We have never felt fully at ease to be out there putting up our heads and talking too much. We just get the job we need to do done, go home and keep to ourselves. We are not treated kindly by authorities so our situation is never guaranteed. I once knew a Mozambican mechanic. (Lionel Rest in Peace brother). He was here legally. One time he fixed a South African's car then the client wouldn't pay. This other day they met at a bar/shebeen and he ask for his money. The South African got pissed-off that "this kwerekwere would dare embarass him asking for his money there" and stabbed him in front of everyone. The police was called. When they got there and found out it was a Mozambican they spent about 1hour chit chatting with the client, their fellow South African while Lionel lay on the ground. He died there like a dog 2hrs later and his family back home, not knowing any legal means lost income and for them that was the end of a source of survival. Crime is everywhere in the world. You will never go anywhere where there is o crime unless everyone has an income, and is too busy working to go and steal. Norway/Switzerland and Finland are as close as it gets to that. Here, we have a different reality. I actually think the solution to Southern Africa's problem right now is for SADC and South Africa to stop supporting and protecting ZANU PF. Remember when ZANU was defeated in 2008 Zimbabweans left SA without even being asked! They believed the evil had been washed out and life would improve. That proves we WANT to leave! But then SA and SADC sent Mbeki who succeeded in helping Mugabe stay as president even after being beaten. Right away Zimbabweans came back to SA as Mugabe cracked down on those who voted against him!

@@AlternativPerspectiv I hear you. You are on point and believe you me all those points you are making are all our concerns with our own government. Nothing bothers me than seeing an African country getting deep into a state of political and economic turmoil because of a bunch corrupt individuals that we call leaders. We have our difficulties with our government and I'm not going to sit here and compare which is better or worse cause I don't know Zim political situation except what is reported by the media and SA media is too busy doing everything within their power making all this African negative news to report on Zimbabweans political situation factually. It's much easier to stand up and fight against a government that is under white people than it would be to fight against your own people. If there's one thing the colonialists did successfully it was to diminish the value of African people even to their own. There's deep rooted self-hate in the African continent and the diaspora directed to Africans by Africans. We find it easier to perform evil acts against our own people because we know that they have less energy to stand up collectively and fight any form of evil because we are such an easy race to manipulate. The only thing we can do to conquer the mental slavery that is prevalent in our black communities and is doing us a great deal of regress, is to respect ourselves and most importantly respect our race more than any other race. I'm not advocating for disrespect towards other races but we ought to reserve the highest standard for our own people and it is only when we hold our own to a high standard that we will be respected by anybody else. We need to set a high standard on how we treat each other as Africans and defend it with our lives. Right now we are our worse enemies because, given a choice, a black person would find it easier to do harm to another black person and would think twice before committing such to a different race. Africa is a rich and a big continent but the general mindset of an African child is poor which is the reason why we see so much hunger and deprivation in a continent where white people and other races come in and get rich quickly using our love for material.

When South Africans report or comment the criminality by our fellow brothers we are called xenophobic
@AlternativPerspectiv
@AlternativPerspectiv 3 ай бұрын
The problem is you guys ALWAYS act and speak as if every single crime is by a foreigner. A shooting/r*pe/murder/robbery happens and right away "Those foreigners!". But then the news reports that it was a "Lebohang" and a "Thabo" and you change to "they are using fake IDs!". It's a desperate push to just demonize Africans. That IS xenophobia by definition. It is prejudice (pre-judging) by definition. I hate criminals as much as you and I have been a victim a few times too to both foreign and local criminals so I know criminals come in many colours and nationalities. Think of it this way... if every single foreigner... every single one left SA... will there be 0 crime? nope! I just wish you guys would face that reality.

I think crime is everywhere in all nationalities. My sister's husband, a cross-border driver who was not here illegally and had driven to Durban to collect a load was waylaid by South Africans on his way back to Zimbabwe. They stripped him, robbed him, then hung him on a bridge. I'm sure there are 100's of 1000 of Zimbabweans with similar tales of South Africans' brutality and lack of respect for life. But at the same time I am also sure there just as many South Africans with their own tales about Zimbabweans committing crimes; like in your case. At the end of the day we, as Africans need to recognize that the lives we live are shaped by the people who lead us. For instance, all the Zimbabweans in SA are here because of their leadership. All YOUR illegal immigrant problems are thanks to ANC. And all our respective issues in our countries are the product of how our leadership deals with policing, and punishment or fails. In South Africa you might as well not have the SAPS, they are useless and incompetent on top of being corrupt. Likewise in Zimbabwe, the police is nothing more than a branch of the ruling party and doesn't serve the people. they don't even pretend to! I hope you guys vote ANC out. then maybe people who know how to run a country will take over. And I hope that then stops ZANU PF because it has stayed around due to ANC's protection. Maybe then we can go home and you guys deal with your own criminals and we deal with ours. Good luck

Then the lady said come i said no thank you then she said where yu going and i told her she kept on insist that she want to help me with transport and her partner the driver was just quite ... after trying so hard to convince me gqve up and turned and they continued with their journey i was not even 200m away from where i was going but still they wanted to help in a busy road My question was why you want to help me in a busy road why me out of all these people .... and also it doesnt make sense that a woman would convince her partner like lets go and help that lady with transport offwch they were going opposite direction.

That's true Tariro.They used black magic on you.The World,has no Earth any more,and it's not all about being educated, illiterate or daft. It is because we are all vulnerable.We are all in need of something. Your story gave me a sigh of relief,and indicated that you are a true and good person in heart naturally.This is why a person you know emerged from nowhere and unexpectedly,then saved you.This is how One Faithful God Mwari Tenzi Musiki works. You could have been killed. Being saved like that is evidence that you still have something to do on this land.Giving others hope. Keep being yourself and this should teach you that you should appreciate a little you have got at a daily basis. Greediness is poisonous. Corruption,means going backwards...... 2 steps forward.......1000 steps backwards=corruption. Thank you for sharing Tariro.
